All THAT said.....I'm still using the Longsword >.>. I have yet to find another straight sword. And I think it's contributing to my feeling underpowered.

There's a decent upgrade to the Longsword you can grab very early on.

I don't see any functional difference between it and the Long Sword. That said, I've found shields that are clearly just straight upgrades of others, so maybe the same applies to other weapon classes. Smithing Shards are still kinda tight so it's hard to upgrade everything for comparison's sake.

Beat Margit first try, barely. Called out the summons at the last minute to draw aggro.

I'm into Stormveil now.....It is so densely designed that it's a real, real treat. I spent easily 45 minutes just on the rooftops, where there's like 4 to 5 possible areas to drop down into different parts of the castle. Imagine Lothric Castle in miniature so everything of note is packed closer together. It's phenomenal after ~25 hours of open world and mini-dungeons. They certainly have not lost their touch.

As Cthulhu says you are misled here. Not by any fault of your own, but presumably by fromsoft making the starting viewable map size very small to troll people intentionally and keep mystery. The actual map is pretty damn meaty.

Ahh, giant...
but No copypaste content ahead

I didn't realize when I was talking about the map that the actual gray fog of war section of the map is also misleading. More of that gets revealed eventually too.  The gray rectangle you see at the start of the game is at most half the size of the full map, possibly less.  It's really kind of shocking, considering how dense the game is with interesting and unique things.

They did a good job of hiding the extent of the map.  You only know how possibly big it is as you add more.

I've been doing what I always do in open world games.  Ignore the vehicle/horse and walk to everything so I can pick up all the junk on the floor and beat up all the enemies.  Currently in Caelid in the east loot hunting between all the various locations.

Stupid Graces trying to tell me where to go.  At some point I'll go back and finally go through Stormgate.  Probably around level 70 or so.  Probably visit the Roundtable Hold at some point then as well.

I'm 30-something, got enough for the stuff I want to use and going to avoid leveling up until I feel like I need to, would rather not outlevel all this cool stuff.  Plus, lots of interesting stuff to buy.

Beat my first boss. Though it was kinda easy just cause I grinded this set (the weapon I found, shield was sheer luck and took about 4 hours for the whole armor set)

Without too much spoilers, was the boss in a cave with wolves. The wolves were harder than the boss though even 1 on 1 :P I seem to have trouble fighting animals and insects more than humanoids.

ah, thanks for tip. I did miss that spot.

Also I beat the horse guy in the beginning, got the golden haberd. That was hard as hell, but learned his rotation and realized what to do. Had to make use of my mount, but still died quite a bit till I realized each attack he did and wasnt too bad after that, but still intense. A level 25 vagabond

Also fought and killed my first invader last night with a buddy. In the ~10 hours we've done coop, that is the first and only invader we've gotten. I imagine it's such a target rich environment for invasions that there's more people to invade than invaders doing it. (And they're all probably still trying to beat them game.) Still. With a 3 man coop squad we played for quite a while together and never saw an invader. It's just surprising for a soul's game. I wonder if people who say they're open to being invaded in SP or what have you get the lion's share of invasions, and people doing coop get what's left over.
As someone that's been doing a hefty bit of invading over the last day nearly everyone I invade has a phantom with them (or even two), and none of my invasion attempts have failed to find someone even if I'm off in some dungeon in the boonies.

I imagine the low number of invaders is at least partially due to how hard it is to find invasion items, and how you can be like 10 hours into the game and only find like 3 you can use which means that even if you like invading you need to save them. The fact that the reusable invasion item is hidden so well means that unless you are specifically seeking it out on the wiki you are going to be limited to just a few invasions.
And as you say, the fact that people are trying to go through the game themselves doesn't help.

Interestingly I've gotten reinforced with other invaders twice while invading, which seems to point to invading someone attracting other invaders.
---
Yesterday I was complaining about most of the spells I find being useless, but since then I've found a few that are indeed quite helpful, just takes a bit of luck finding the right place.
