Infection Phase, Turn 1 Results

Husk Hiver parasites were deployed in the city of Rennes in Brittany, France. Local authorities have quarantined a few local botanical gardens after receiving reports of screaming and attacks by aggressive insects. While the locals can maintain a solid perimeter, they are seeking help from groups with medical and military expertise to deal with the problem more directly.

Europe: Fine (Husk Hiver - Rennes, Brittany)

Toxoplasma Corpus has been released upon the population of Gary, Indiana, in the United States of America. Local law enforcement is enlisting outside help after a number of attacks similar to the original BOW outbreak occurred within the city limits. A few city blocks have been entirely quarantined and cut off from the outside world, and will remain that way until the situation changes.

North America: Fine (T.Corpus - Gary, Indiana)

Three other interesting sets of reports have come to your attention recently.

Cities near the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil have reported massive clouds of oversized, overaggressive bats assaulting people in the night. The frequency of attacks seems to indicate two or three separate bat colonies are responsible. The unnaturally large vampire bat-like appearance of killed and captured bats seems to indicate the involvement of BOWs, so local governments are accepting aid to combat the situation.

South America: Fine (?? - Amazon, Brazil)

Juarez, Mexico has seen an uptick in violent crimes, and locals are seeking international assistance. A number of recent murders have been attributed to a small outbreak not unlike the original BOW "zombie" attack, and while the situation is currently stabilized, law and government forces would like the problem dealt with before that changes.

North America: Fine (T.Corpus - Gary, Indiana; ?? - Juarez, Mexico)

A PRIORITY ALERT has been sent out by Asia. The Muyuan Meat and Food Industry Complex in China is experiencing a very public BOW event. An illness has infected their pig stock and has resulted in what is being called "The Churning". Sick pigs became aggressive and started feeding on other pigs, spreading the illness further and increasing the number of murderous swine. The illness spread throughout the megafarm quickly, and soon each building was going through intense bloodbaths as the pigs transformed into massive "Bullswine". The Chinese military has blocked off the area, but is very willing to accept aid from people willing to clean out the Bullswine from the pig farm without damaging the buildings themselves. Pictures show creatures with massive tusks, bristling fur, and thick hide stretched across dense muscle. There are an unknown number of the creatures within the facility. This Priority Alert provides an increase in Relations with Asia even if the outbreak isn't eliminated.

Asia: Fine (?? - Muyuan Meat and Food Industry Complex, Nanyang, China)

It is now the Mercenary Phase.

For THIS TURN ONLY you will have one Mercenary Action to design equipment with as normal, and one Hero Action to create a Hero and their associated unit (where usually you have two Mercenary Actions, and creating a Hero requires using both). Remember, Heroes should have any desired traits and skills described, and the unit's size should be specified, as well as the unit's specialties, skills, traits, etc. Feel free to ask questions about what is and is not possible for creating a Hero/Unit.

Bioweapon Elimination Engagement Gun (BEEG)

The BEEG is a bullpup carbine based on existing 6.8mm cqb rifles. Our operations team has converted this high caliber rifle mechanism to a shorter gun usable in close quarters by our Bioweapon Response teams. A very short and durable stock pushes our just a few centimeters from the back of the mechanism, with a thick recoil pad and shaped shoulder stock. The pistol grip is formed into an angled grip that merges with the stock, allowing good ergonomics while keeping the weapon short and easy to use. The magazine is a 30-round double stack, though 10-rounders are also available by request. The front of the gun features a handguard and angled foregrip that is part of the one-piece polymer molded furniture (and easy to sanitize after a mission!). Finally, mounts at the front and top of the weapon allow the mounting of a variety of sights and tactical hardware. A bayonet lug is available to mount bayonets if desired. The ammunition the weapon fires is a very aggressive hollow point design with a partition between two lead cores to allow better penetration of hardened bone and carapace if need be.

Edit: redesigned based on team feedback.

Mondragon SCAFIR-21

With a demonstrated need to uparm our BOW containment units, and a lack of in-house manufacturing ensuring we need to delegate the process elsewhere meant we had to trawl through a manufacturer that could do good-quality work whilst being discreet. Enter Mondragon Armaments; small firm with surprisingly effective line-up of weapons and tight-lipped as to why they were developed.

Utilising the 6.8mm SPC round and further enhancing the capabilities of these rounds with armour-piecing incendiary rounds (API rounds), the SCAFIR-21 should boast more than enough firepower to make any infected very, very dead. Beyond that, the SCAFIR-21's layout is that of a bullpup rifle with polymer furniture. Featuring rails for the attachments of sights and other such enhancements on the top rail, and room for a foregrip, underbarrel launcher or other auxiliary weapon on the bottom rail, the SCAFIR-21 is capable serving as Medtronic's versatile and sturdy primary weapon.

Medtronic Customer Support Company

Led by Grant Theodore, a former employee of the parent company back before the split, the Medtronic Customer Support Company is designed to respond to bioweapon outbreaks in a quick and efficient manner. Grant was a former security officer with large amounts of training, and lost several friends and coworkers to the viral BOW program. Due to these negative experiences, Grant decided to bring his experience and CQC/urban combat training to Medtronics when the split occurred.

Maria Ravernstern

Bio:
Maria is the daughter of Albert Ravernstern and Sarah Ravernstern. Attended Alexander Academy, then Oxford. Took to Extreme Sports, such as Rock Climbing, Wingsuiting and Kickboxing.

Her parents died in the Splitting of the Company incident. Maria disappeared from view for a few years. When she emerged it was at the head of the Valkyries, a mercenary company.

While a capable combatant on her own right, her true strength lies in directing the field operations of her mercenaries, capable of adapting her plans and tactics to suit the conditions of the BOW they are tasked with taking down.

She maintains a fierce hatred of Lifechem for being behind the murder of her parents.

Skills:
-Capable with both hand to hand and ranged combat.
-Strong skill in directing units on a tactical level.
-Decent Investigator, but she is more interested in destroying BOWs than collecting data.

Valkyries:
Mercenary Company created by Maria Ravernstern. Most recently employed by Medtronic. Company-sized. Core is made up of veterans of militaries from all over the world. Tactics shift based on the BOW they face, but they tend to prioritize extraction of civilians (into a quarantine of course) and then destruction of the BOW.

Major Cedric and Medtronic Security (Company)

Major Cedric Corbec is a grizzled old soldier, and one that knows his crap. A former military man, he was one of the higher ranking members of the former LifeChem’s security teams from before the split. While he claimed to like the quiet life of a private head of security, he always seemed restless. He went with Medtronic during the split - the execs gave him some excellent terms on his contract. Specifically, he was tapped to help bring the new combat force to life.

Medtronic Security is thus a well drilled machine; the unit is fairly flexible, but has given particular attention to close quarters fighting and urban environments. The Company-sized force trains with a focus on the ability to split such a large unit and retain fighting effectiveness; Captains and Lieutenants have a significant amount of autonomy, under the direction of Cedric.

(Better name for the merc force welcome)

Major Cedric
-Large amount of experience, both in command and personal combat
-Cool under pressure
-Knows how to delegate properly and use available resources to their best

Medtronic Security
-Flexible but with specialty in urban combat
-Officers have significant autonomy in order to best utilize the entirety of their fighting force

Mercenary Phase, Turn 1 Results

Proposal: Major Cedric Corbec and Medtronic Security
Difficulty: Normal
Result: (6+5)=11, Masterwork

Cedric Corbec is a man born into a military family, and there was no question that he would be a military man himself. Corbec attended Hargrave Military Academy, attended Officers Candidate School, and joined up with the 82nd Airborne. Cedric Corbec participated in Operation Enduring Freedom in '02 as part of Task Force Panther before returning to the States briefly to complete the "Q Course" and make himself a member of the United States Army Special Services, or "Green Berets". Cedric Corbec was redeployed to the Middle East in '03, this time to Iraq, where he was awarded the Silver Star for his actions during the Battle of Debecka Pass. Corbec would continue to distinguish himself through both direct and commanding actions for the next decade, climbing the ladder to Major on the way. The Major learned that he preferred getting shot at to poring over endless tables and maps and all the bullshit politics that piled on as one collected more promotions.

Major Corbec was on the runway at Baghdad International Airport in 2013 preparing to board a military plane back to the states for some time off when a pair of rockets were fired at the airport. While damage was minimal, Corbec was unfortunate enough to be hit by shrapnel and lost most of the sight out of his left eye, among other various face-scarring injuries. He was granted an Honorable Discharge for his service, and while he was recovering in a hospital, the president decided his actions for the Silver Star were more worthy of a Medal of Honor.

Cedric found adjusting to civilian life was harder than he'd expected, but his injuries prevented reenlistment or the ability to work with a PMC or contractor in a position that put him in the shit again. Cedric made use of his skills floating around in the civilian market as a "security consultant", where at least he was allowed to work "in the field" and eventually had to settle down as he found himself a wife. That "settling down" included a more permanent security position at LifeChem, which offered an amazing salary and extensive benefits. "Security Consultant" soon became "Chief of Security", and with that position came ties to some of the oldest money in the world - including the founders of LifeChem's very own Life family [GM Note: I wasn't going to have a founding party be the Life family, blame NUKE for including it in his team's proposal, and on Capcom for being so cheesy that I could see that fitting into an RE-adjacent universe]. After the first BOW event occurred, The Major was one of a select few parties involved in locating any threads leading to BOW research. While he didn't fully agree with the direction the corporation was taking, Cedric was offered the chance to personally lead the "security teams" responsible for reigning in and eliminating excessive outbreak threat, and that was too interesting an opportunity for him to pass up.

Unfortunately, a lot of things changed when Jasper Life killed two other members of the Board. Cedric was the one personally responsible for preventing further deaths. The Life family would see him dead eventually for what he'd done, so he decided to stick around with Medtronic and the security teams that went along with them. At least that way he was going to have more guns around him when the Life's turned their attention toward him.

A lot of Medtronic's security forces were ex-military or former law enforcement, so drills and training generally came easy to them. With funding from Medtronic, Cedric was able to order the construction of a large faux city block for urban combat training, as well as the facilities to house, care for, and otherwise train and maintain this Company-sized private military. Major Cedric Corbec is well-respected among his soldiers, and even at 40 is still at his peak. Minus the blind eye. He's trained very intensively since the injury though, and has managed to adjust better than most to the loss of depth perception.

Cedric runs Medtronic Security like a special forces outfit, and as a result those beneath him have high levels of autonomy when it comes to achieving the primary objective of the unit.

Major Cedric Corbec and Medtronic Security (Company)
Hero: Major Cedric Corbec
Hero Traits: Special Operator (he excels in most combat situations), Experienced Officer (military actions are more effective under his command), Wounded Warrior (slightly less accurate at longer ranges)
Unit: Medtronic Security
Unit Traits: Hardened Veterans (less likely to snap or flee when things get bad or weird), Organized (the size of the unit doesn't impact the efficacy of operations better suited to somewhat smaller units, and they multitask more effectively)
Equipment: N/A

----------------

Proposal: Bioweapon Elimination Engagement Gun (BEEG)
Difficulty: Very Hard
Result: (6+5)-2=9, Above Average

The BEEG is a 3kg, 54cm long bullpup carbine firing 6.8mm rounds at about 1000RPM. The weapon is designed with the three C's in mind - comfort, compact, combat. The weapon is easy to handle and recoil is minimized as a result. 10 and 30-round magazines are available on request. A top rail and forward side rail will allow the use of any accessories we could develop or come across, while the bayonet lug comes with an 18cm multipurpose bayonet "heavily inspired" buy the US military's M9.

A lot of work was put into the development of in-house ammunition, and was a task that required a little more expertise to be brought in than Medtronic had on-hand. Taking influence from big game hunters, we developed our own version of a "bonded bullet". The chemically bonded copper jacket and steel core fragments and breaks apart less easily than a typical hollow point round, so rounds can still impart a great amount of force onto harder material such as bone, and leaves a pretty nasty hole when it passes completely through a fleshy target. The rounds have a plastic tip to improve accuracy that initiates the mushrooming on impact with a soft target.

The Bioweapon Elimination Engagement Gun (BEEG) is considered Stockpile: 3 // Deployment Limit: Company

----------------

It is now the Deployment Phase.

This is where you are responsible for formulating a plan for unit deployment. As with the Infection Stage, propose plans as a whole and not piecemeal. Plans will require the Units you wish to deploy, the equipment they'll be using, and the location they're headed off to. Additional useful details in the plan (don't hit me with shit like the color of everyone's socks, unless of course there's something like a BOW that hates thigh high socks) allows me to adhere to your preferred tactics and strategies better. You can assign as much equipment as you want to any unit, so long as there are no duplicates in a unit and you have some left in the stockpile.

You should also probably create that whole company logo thing and choose the continent to engage a PR campaign in. It isn't a competition, you just need to have something to put out there to get rewarded. Some people were assuming this would determine where their HQ was at and before that becomes someone asking about attacking the other team directly, it does not. This is simply the nation you're getting friendly with first. That one company what did that first outbreak had labs and shit all over the place and you're following in their footsteps so no centralized bases for you to beat up.
