Infection Phase, Turn 1 Results

We released Adenovirus Type-N in Juarez, Mexico, and a small portion of the city has been locked down as a result. The situation is stable, but the similarities to the original "Zombie" outbreak have the local officials open to outside help to end things as swiftly as possible.

(1/3 Adenovirus Type-N Deployed)
North America: Fine (Adenovirus Type-N - Juarez, Mexico)

A number of bats infected with Adenovirus Type-H were introduced to a handful of bat colonies in the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. The colonies have since fallen to the virus, and the resulting swarms of massive blood-thirsty bats have been seen assaulting villages and cities nearby. The bats are leaving bodies in their wake, and the local government is asking for aid in eliminating the mutated pest problem. So far we have heard no reports of a human infection.

(1/2 Adenovirus Type-H Deployed)
South America: Fine (Adenovirus Type-H - Amazon, Brazil)

A PRIORITY ALERT has been issued by Asia as a result of our recent efforts there with the Feral Pestivirus. The Muyuan Meat and Food Industry Complex in China is experiencing a very public BOW event. The illness has infected their pig stock and has resulted in what is being called "The Churning". Sick pigs became aggressive and started feeding on other pigs, spreading the Feral Pestivirus further and increasing the number of murderous swine. The illness spread throughout the megafarm quickly, and soon each building was going through intense bloodbaths as the pigs transformed into massive "Bullswine". The Chinese military has blocked off the area, but is very willing to accept aid from people willing to clean out the Bullswine from the pig farm without damaging the buildings themselves. Pictures have gotten out to the public showing creatures with massive tusks, bristling fur, and thick hide stretched across dense muscle. There are an unknown number of Bullswine within the facility. This Priority Alert provides an increase in Relations with Asia even if the outbreak isn't eliminated.

(1/3 Feral Pestivirus Deployed)
Asia: Fine (Feral Pestivirus - Muyuan Meat and Food Industry Complex, Nanyang, China)

Two other interesting sets of reports have come to your attention recently.

An illness reminiscent of the original "zombie" outbreak has begun to spread in Gary, Indiana, in the United States of America. A small neighborhood has been cut off and quarantined by local law enforcement, and they are looking for help in tilting the situation in their favor.

North America: Fine (Adenovirus Type-N - Juarez, Mexico; ?? - Gary, Indiana)

Local authorities for the city of Rennes in Brittany, France are asking for aid in exterminating a particularly nasty bug problem. Screaming and aggressive insect attacks centered around botanical gardens have seen parts of the city enter lockdown. While the locals can maintain a solid perimeter, they are seeking help from groups with medical and military expertise to deal with the problem more directly.

Europe: Fine (?? - Rennes, Brittany)

----------------

It is now the Mercenary Phase.

For THIS TURN ONLY you will have one Mercenary Action to design equipment with as normal, and one Hero Action to create a Hero and their associated unit (where usually you have two Mercenary Actions, and creating a Hero requires using both). Remember, Heroes should have any desired traits and skills described, and the unit's size should be specified, as well as the unit's specialties, skills, traits, etc. Feel free to ask questions about what is and is not possible for creating a Hero/Unit.

Extermination foam.
This... unique chemical is packaged up in a grenade designed to be used as an alternative to conventional chemical weapons. Instead of dispersing as a gas this substance is a fast foaming adhesive laced with a contact neurotoxin. Basically, when fired it explodes into a mass of expanding sticky goop that can obstruct the movement, senses, and breathing of a target. Then the Contact neurotoxin makes them start to go numb and inflicts mild paralysis, weakening them and making escape harder and the vapors from it can even paralyze the lungs if inhaled for long periods.
To clean up, we will also deploy a specialized neutralizing agent which can break down the adhesive and neutralize the poison, allowing it to be safely washed away.

Shockgun:
BZZZT!

The Shockgun is inspired by the less-lethal 'Taser'. However, the Shockgun is not less-lethal. It is more-lethal. Where the Taser uses a current specifically designed to impair a target without killing them (most of the time), the Shockgun uses as much electricity as is feasibly possible, the current modulated to maximise the debilitating effect- with death a welcome bonus feature.
The Shockgun operates on a similar principle to the Taser- it fires two barbed prongs, each connected by wire to the weapon, which upon making contact with the target form a circuit that channels electricity through the body in modulated pulses, interfering with proper muscle function, and potentially stopping the heart. Where the Taser is intended for short-range use, the Shockgun has features to enable use at a safer distance. The prongs are connected by a (non-conductive) wire, such that they do not drift too far apart (while still allowing them sufficient distance to form a proper circuit through the target). They are also launched at a higher speed (still through use of compressed gas), and have aerodynamic properties intended to improve accuracy. Also, unlike a Taser, the Shockgun has a barrel (actually, two- one for each prong, with a very small gap between the two for the connecting wire), with the prong-and-gas cartridge slotted into the rear of the weapon.
To accommodate the higher power usage, the Shockgun has a large battery (running under the barrels), and the wires trailing behind the prongs are a little thicker than those of a Taser (to prevent burning out). The battery can be replaced in the field fairly easily.
In the event that one Shockgun does not produce enough bzzzt, multiple can be used on the same target- the Shockgun is designed to recognise feedback caused by other Shockguns, and synchronise pulses in order to multiply the efficacy.

In size, the Shockgun resembles a hefty shotgun- a large weapon, though not to the point of impairing the user significantly (but probably not dual-wieldable). It has the LifeChem logo on it, obviously.

The Shockgun is intended to kill humans outright, at the very least disable augmented humanoids, and seriously impair anything larger (reducing mobility enough to reduce the threat level). Maximum range should be at least 25 meters, with a minimum effective range of ~3 meters.

Based partially on the Mossberg 590M. Probably stuffed too many things in there. Name is mostly a placeholder, so if anyone has a better one, go ahead. Having slight second thoughts about the 20 shell mag, since it's sizeable even when double stacked, but it should be fine.

12g semi-automatic/pump-action shotgun 'Hail'

The 'Hail', as the engineer in charge of the project refers to it, is a semi-automatic shotgun chambered to use 12 gauge shells, featuring an ergonomic pistol grip, collapsible stock, sling for carrying the weapon and a rail interface system on the top, side and handguard to accept a variety of attachments. Fed with double-stacked box magazines holding up to 20 shells, it is capable of outputting a frightening amount of firepower at close ranges—using the usual buckshot, that is. As any shotgun, it is capable of firing a versatile assortment of shells ranging from buckshot, slugs, and flechettes to more exotic rounds—dragon's breath and saboted darts filled with neurotoxin. In the case of using low-pressure shells that would fail to cycle the action, it is possible to operate Hail like a pump-action.

Jennivieve Life and her Bodyguard Platoon
Nepotism is such an ugly word. Sure, Jennivieve Life is the grandaughter of LifeChem's founder, and has not had to undergo any of the standard aptitude tests that others with her position did. And sure, she acts like a spoiled princess at times, reminding people of her family connections if they complain. But that doesn't mean she's unqualified for the job. Indeed, she has inherited her family's obsessive interest in biology and medicine, along with the... flexible morality that has made LifeChem the great success it is today. Combined with great intelligence, this has made her the ideal candidate for the position of LifeChem Executive.

Unfortunately, Jennivieve is not interested in sitting around in an office, or even working in a lab. She wants to be out in the field, gathering samples and real-world data. After some internal family arguments, it became clear that there was no stopping her from following this dream, so she was assigned a bodyguard to keep her safe as she gathers data. And by bodyguard, I mean an entire platoon of LifeChem security forces.

Said bodyguards are reasonably well trained, most coming into LifeChem with some experience in combat, and being put through in-house exercises to ensure they can work together effectively. Their primary purpose is to protect Jennivieve, but their platoon size allows for one squad to guard Miss Life whilst others perform recon, secure secondary objectives, or 'subdue unruly samples'.

Jennivieve herself is more effective in combat than one might think- though that isn't saying all that much. She knows her way around a gun, and is in decent physical shape, but is not a sharpshooter or amazon. For the most part, she is content to let her bodyguards do the actual fighting, whilst she prefers to wield a high-def camera and a voice recorder. When the fighting is done (temporarily, at least), she will eagerly investigate the fallen, taking notes and samples, sometimes even having her bodyguards bag up particularly intriguing specimens for shipment back to a LifeChem lab.
Her activities may not be of direct help in combat, but she can act as a force multiplier for her bodyguards, as her quick wits determine weaknesses of foes or identify tactics that can circumvent their strengths. Most important, however, is the data she brings back to the lab- which should prove invaluable in improving the strength of LifeChem's BOWs, and help all of our operatives target weaknesses on those deployed by Medtronic.

E: Well, I'm going to vote for my suggestions. More proposals would be good, but I don't really have the energy to write more right now.

I'm not really familiar with RE's style of protagonist, but this all seems quite good. Like the idea of electric stuff as well, muscle spasms caused by that ought to mean decent stopping power.
