Greetings engineers! Welcome to the city of Hertigholm capital of the Grand Duchy! Come and enjoy the cities ancient architecture dating back hundreds of years, stay for traditional cuisine such as delicious pastries and dishes of fish and egg! Here nestled in a refurbished building on the outside of the city will be your design center for the new weapons of the Grand Duchy! The Grand Duke has great expectations for you, don't screw it up!

Vornfolk Armory:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is the first Design Phase of the game and here you will introduce a new implement of war for your soldiers to use to kill the enemy soldiers, of course if its a colossal failure then you get to revise it before it is actually fielded, or you can revise something else in your armory.

Currently your nation has: No artillery, no modern rifles and no sidearms. So you should work on one of those first, or not. I dunno, you got free will.

75mm Field Cannon
As the name would suggest, the 75mm Field Cannon is a breach loading artillery weapon that fires explosive 75mm shells, though it also comes with grapeshot/canister rounds for when enemies get near by. This field cannon, unlike the Duchy's current model rifles, is meant to use smokeless powder instead of black powder which grants it superior range and shot velocity in comparison. It is meant to be drawn by horses for mobility and logistics purposes and therefor like most field cannons it is not intended to be highly maneuverable.

M1899 8.0cm Fält Kanone Mk.I
The M1899 is a modern field artillery with some cutting edge features originally created in Bohemia.
the most notable addition is a hydro-pneumatic recoil mechanism, allowing it to fire without having to readjust aim every shot. Furthermore, it uses modern fixed rounds with brass casings for rapid reloading, and Vornite smokeless "powder" for higher velocities and avoiding "smoking out" our own gun crews with it's rapid rate of fire. The field gun's main ammo types are Shrapnel shells and HE (using our own Picric mixture), with a small production of solid shot in case we come across any armored trains. The Caisson contains light armor around the ammunition box, and likewise the gun itself has a small shield to protect the crew from shrapnel.

M1899 Kortrevar "Arbetshäst"
Given our need for a rifle sized for mortal men, the Arbetshäst was created.
The Kortrevar has an overall much shorter length than the Monoh, coming in at 44 In overall length, and chambered in 6.5x55mm rimless with vornite powder. The bullet itself is a spitzer round a few mm longer than one would expect of the caliber, giving it remarkable energy retention at range. The most notable difference in the bolt, when compared to the Monoh, aside from its much shorter bolt throw, is that the locking lugs are further back on the bolt, making it a bit safer in case of a catastrophic failure ( a common worry with these newfangled smokeless powders). The magazine that has absolutely no foreign influences, can fit 12-rounds in a double-stacked configuration, 2 more than perfidious Albion was able to fit into their magazines (which did not influence ours), thanks to the smaller caliber bullets we use. The Arbetshäst uses the same bayonet as our old Monoh, to save some costs.

War Rocket Ajax - Stick Launchers
Ajax type war Rockets come in sub-models of light, medium, and heavy, but in all cases consist of a sheet iron case containing a rocket fueled by a specialized recipe akin to the new fad of smokeless powder and a high explosive, explosive incendiary, or canister type warhead. These rockets can be fired by infantry through the use of special launching sticks that are portable and usable by infantry without needing any more specialized or heavy equipment. While not expected to completely replace more normal types of artillery, it is considered highly likely to be useful to have a barrage fire weapon that can be used in almost all terrain types by lone infantry units without the need to deploy heavy and hard to transport war machines up mountains and suchforth.

War Rocket Ajax - Wagon Launcher
Ajax type war Rockets come in sub-models of light, medium, and heavy, but in all cases consist of a sheet iron case containing a rocket fueled by a specialized recipe akin to the new fad of smokeless powder and a high explosive, explosive incendiary, or canister type warhead. These rockets can be fired through the use of wooden wagons which hold racks loaded with rockets, allowing for controllable barrage fire. Two kinds of wagons are delivered with the rockets, a small sized one that holds four racks each of which hold four rockets, allowing for barrages of up to sixteen rockets at once, and a larger wagon that holds six racks each of which holds six rockets, allowing for thirty six rocket barrages to be launched on demand. These larger wagons are somewhat harder to maneuver and transport however, and their heavier racks make them harder to reload.

Of course, each rack can also be triggered individually if needed to allow for a more controllable firing rate.

Rocket Wagon
The most commonly seen type of Rocket Wagon consists of a wooden wagon with slide-mounts for four wooden racks, each holding four 'Ajax' type war rockets. Each rack can be loaded and unloaded simply by sliding it into the respective mount for the rack on the wagon, and each rack can be fired separately or all together, allowing barrages of up to sixteen rockets at once to be fired at foes if desired. Larger and smaller variants are also known, the largest produced version holding eight racks of eight rockets for a total barrage size of 64, but such wagons are far to heavy to be easily maneuvered and their racks are too heavy to be easily reloaded, and so the medium sized wagon remains the most common.

Glory to the Duchy!

While I do think we should focus our efforts on a artillery piece for the primary design for this turn, I think we should use our revision to   armorer our barges lightly and mount whatever artillery we produce on it. Chances are the enemy wont bother with any naval designs this early in the game and being able to potentially intercept they're naval forces with them hopefully having no answer as well as provide a basically armored mobile blockhouse for our artillery to operate out of will likely render early counter battery fire ineffective.

New Model Field Dress
Our current uniforms uh... are, but we can modernize them to the point even the king of Albion cannot hide his envy.
The basest level of the uniform consists of a gray-green tunic and trousers made of hardwearing material with a softer undershirt, and a greatcoat in cold weather; officers and highborn enlisted may opt for silk lining. The new model jackboots reach midcalf and come with gray-green puttees to obscure the black leather of the jackboots, as well as provide a level of protection against certain environmental factors.
The Shako, while retained for parade use, has been replaced in the field by a pith helmet, of the Normandish style, with a relatively wide brim and a gray-green cloth covering. It of course comes with a badge of the Duke's crest to be placed on the front, though we do not advise wearing it in combat situations, as Kalchans instinctively destroy symbols of civilization. In more wintry climes a furred hat is provided instead. The last but not least inclusion is a standardized sheath for a spade. The model of spade was patented a few decades ago (a fact that was promptly ignored by everyone) and then swiftly copied by many, consisting of a 50 cm overall length and can be sharpened along one side to serve as an axe.

Dice Gods Say: You rolled a 5

The M1899 8.0cm Fält Kanone Mk.I is an excellent example of reliable copy of another nations more advanced design. All prototypes shown to the Grand Duke have proved to be reliable and functional, the Grand Duke even requested to fire a test shell himself and afterwards ordered the cannon to enter full scale production! Though the bean counters and generals in the royal court nixed production of the solid shot as it would be useless against infantry and cavalry, anyways, who would armor a train? Hah! Occasionally the barrels need to be changed due to natural wear and tear.

The M1899 Kortrevar "Arbetshäst" is another example of a reliable copy of foreign design, no matter what the engineers say the Duke insists he's seen rifles almost exactly like this while inspecting foreign troops when visiting Albion last year. The 6.5mm round is found to be very accurate if a little under-powered in terms of penetration due to its small mass. 6 round chargers were suggested by some of the troops participating in the test trials but they were simple common peasant conscripts so their opinion was not taken into account, the officers present argued that their troops wouldn't need to load all 12 rounds anyways since they would be loading strictly under officer orders. Otherwise the rifle works exactly as intended.

Its time for the Revision Phase folks!

Defending/attacking the island is not a priority. Currently we use no Exotics, and it is unlikely that our enemy does either. Conversely, Fuel and especially Ore are important, and cutting the enemy's supply while protecting our own is key.
I mean, the most damaging thing we could do to the enemy's ability to defend the island is not make makeshift warships, but reduce their supply of Ore- the barge costs 3 ore, so losing 1 ore means their numbers will be reduced considerably.
