New mechanism linking interface suggestion

This suggestion is about the new mechanism linking interface in the Steam official thread over here. So go read this first if you haven’t already:

The wee suggestion is, an interface like that sounds like the perfect place to put a “reverse” option per link. So you could finally have one lever that opens one door and closes another with the same pull.

While I'm sure it'd be a useful idea, it's more a functional change (equivalent to "build an intermediary NOT gate", but without the fuss of the construction that would form that).

While fluid-logic on pressure-plate can (IIRC, from the last time I did a lot with that) have either make-on-push or break-on-push functionality, there's nothing new in the Steam interface that suggests Tarn wants to simultaneously give both OUT and ¬OUT options. It'll have been just as easy to add to the current (or any prior?) iteration.

If it hasn't because nobody shouted loud enough, then I'll helpfully shout about it too, and all power to your elbow, etc. If we've not got a simple NOT because he actually enjoys the whole lot of community-designed hot compound NOTs wot we got trotted out, then I don't think there's a chance it'll by put into Steam. Not one jot.

(I would be willing to be proven wrong. It doesn't seem like a dealbreaker to me, but perhaps the intended Steam-powered new players would be clammering for a way to switch the Open/Close parity enough to make it something no longer dismissable as an unnecessary luxury...)

You might be right, if the NOT functionality is deliberately omitted as a gameplay challenge.

My hope is that the only reason it wasn’t added before is that the UI to specify such a thing would be a big task to implement. Enter the new Steam interface: maybe now it’s just a couple more lines of code?
