Roll to Errant [4/4]
« on: April 16, 2021, 02:48:43 pm »

It is the twenty second year of the reign of his Majesty, King Leonar II, over the Kingdom of Avascal.

News of a Dragon migrating from the north has reached the ears of the court.

The eastern Border Lords are once again stirring up trouble in hopes of regaining their former power from the crown.

A rising wave of banditry has infected the western coast.

And our southerly neighbors, the fiercely independent duchies of the mountainous Nevir, look to respark their infighting that had ailed the border nearly thirty years ago.

This is the end of the years of peace for Avascal, a new time of strife is brewing in the Kingdom. This shall be an age of violence and glory, struggle and honor, this shall be an age of Chivalry! It is in this age that four brave Knight Errants ride out from the capital of the Kingdom to prove their valor in these troubling times.

Name: Sir Wisenwald
Knightly Virtue: Wisdom
Fatal Flaw: Being distinctly unwise
Weapon of Choice: Polearm

Sir Wisenwald is carries himself as a wise knight, getting on in the years and approaching retirement. Much like his father, and his father before him. He comes from a line of incredibly wise knights and has a reputation as such. However, Wisenwald is distinctly unwise and prone to giving well intentioned advice, which is not as useful or as topical as he may believe. Wisenwald is entirely unaware of this blatant fact, thinking himself quite clever regardless  of any evidence to the contrary. Still, he manages to bumble along and things mostly work out alright in the end.

Name: Lady Tim
Knightly Virtue: Passion
Fatal Flaw: Destruction of property
Weapon of Choice: Claymore

Lady Tim, a female knight from a peasant's background that nonetheless is stronger than most male knights. Incredibly passionate(about fighting and bloodshed and fires), she enters the battlefield in her black and red plate armor and leaves her enemies cowering in fear. When most people talk about her, it's as the Black Knight rather than anything about her gender. She is boisterous indeed, just don't get between her and her hearth in a bar.

Name: Sir Greyson the Stoneworker
Knightly Virtue: Inquisitiveness
Fatal Flaw: Curiosity
Weapon of Choice: Architecture Petraturgy

Sir Greyson is not your typical knight in shining armor, albeit not for the reasons implied by that statement. His armor is dark, nearing black, but not at all for the reasons you are likely thinking. It is simply that his armor - all of his equipment, really - is made of (apparently) rough-hewn black stone, crude and blocky in appearance, perhaps putting one more in mind of an ogre than a knight.
In all honesty, neither being is a wonderful comparison, for all that Sir Greyson has been knighted; while he earned that in service to Avascal, this service was constructive in nature, rather than comparative.

Listen, we’re skirting around the point. Sir Greyson is a worker of earth magics, who until now was singlehandedly driving a number of infrastructure projects within the kingdom. The call for all knights did call for all knights, though, and so he has answered.

Name: Sir Herring
Knightly Virtue: Generosity
Fatal Flaw: Stupidity
Weapon of Choice: A herring

Sir Herring used to be a peasant until he found some shoddy "knightly" armor laying in the forest, so he pretended to be a knight and go walk around trying and failing to act like a knight. But hey, at least he tries to do good things for the peasants like him.

[And with that we're full up for now. I'll give a starting post for the characters to work from.]

[As for Sir Herring, I suppose I'll create a Graveyard/Retirement list and can put him in a Waitlist?]

And so our.... noble Knights set out from the capital for glory and chivalry... hopefully.

Where do our individual Knights head?

Do any of the knights dare to head north to investigate the rumors of a Dragon?

Or perhaps they'll find the western Bandits a more appealing foe?

Can our brave... heroes hope to settle the Rebellious Vassals of the east?

Or guard the southern border from the devastation of the Neighboring Wars?

Perhaps our Knights merely set out and let their Wander Lust take them to where it will, maybe even to a destiny not yet seen?

While bandits are certainly a nuisance, and rebellious vassals can cause problems, dragons have a terrible habit of destroying all those nice buildings and roads (and the people that use them, too, of course). Clearly, the damned lizard is of the highest priority.

Sir Wisenwald thought himself very clever as he walked to the east. He in his wisdom knew that the dragon was far too dangerous a foe for but a few knights. So, he set off on his own to investigate the vassals. What was their reason for rebellion? How would they fight? Would they heed his reasoned arguments, or fall to his reasoned sword? He knew not, but would soon learn.

Wise as ever, Wisenwald heads off alone to investigate the rebellion.

Three of the Errant Knights set off to the north, to slay the rumored Dragon!

[6]

None are foolish enough to dare stop the convoy of three knights on their journey, making record time! In fact, our party of heroes make in time to meet face to face with not just one Dragon, but two! Apparently this wasn't a mindless rampage, but a mating related migration! Neither Dragon looks particularly happy with this party of challengers, but that's just more glory for our brave Knights!

[-1 Rolls for the party of three in their upcoming individual battle rolls, to represent the increase in challenge.]

Sir Wisenwald, using his bountiful wisdom, decides to tackle the challenge of the unruly Eastern Vassals! He sets off to the East, using his great knowledge to deduce taking the main road would be the most efficient route. Of course he's right and makes it to eastern region without much difficulty!... unfortunately it seems that the Eastern Lords had similar thoughts! Sir Wisenwald finds himself caught in an ambush! Set up in advance when one of the lords had heard a Royal Knight was on his way to the Eastern Border.

[Phew, wasn't expecting 2 6s, heh. Anyway, I had a travel roll to see how your travel went, was going to give you a chance to do some preparations, talking with local villagers about the Dragon to potentially set a trap, getting a chance to snoop on the Eastern Vassal's domain before confronting anything, but the dice seem to want some action. Well, at least you made it to your destinations in a quick, safe manner.  :P]
