How Many Times Reject Barony?
« on: April 08, 2021, 04:10:14 pm »

Is there limit to the number of times I can reject a barony?

New fort. Not even out of spring of the first year. The Hillock of UristMcKnuckleDraggers is looking to MY economy....  lord help me.

Will trade caravans eventually stop coming? I don't care about trade agreements, they're so stingy that they're rarely worth the trouble, but the caravans I can use.

Apologies for my poor search skills. I really couldn't find an answer.

I turned down a baron once.  I lost the ability to request goods from the caravan.  I wanted a ton of leather and it was a nuisance.  I accepted the barony when it was next offered.

Being commodity poor can be a pain, but there is almost always a workaround. It's just a matter of figuring it out.

Mincing all your  food (or even booze) up into prepared meals at the kitchen. Roasts trade for a whole lot and they are easy to search for in the depot. I don't put them in barrels because otherwise the elves will end up getting offered a wooden one on accident. It's kind of funny because they are just covered in vermin and vermin corpses from my 1 male kitten most of the time because of that. At least they aren't in wooden barrels I guess.

I just carve a ton of rock pots or if I've got the magma-glassforge, make green glass pots. Both are elf-friendly storage containers.

Working with so much leather saves a great deal of dwarf labor elsewhere while also providing lightweight armor for ranged military squads, and farming leather instead of trading for it is not feasible in the amounts that the caravan can bring if you request it with the strongest priority.

To the OP, if you keep rejecting the barony you can still trade with the caravan, if I remember right.  You just can't request specific goods.  Up to you if the sacrifice is worth it.  Also, having an extra noble means more mandates, but also means having an extra consoler for stressed dwarfs when they want to yell at someone in charge.  Or you can accept the baron and arrange his death (magma, atomsmasher, cavern exploration, etc) later, if he starts becoming truly obnoxious.

I read that as, you can stuff elves into them.
