[47.04] Living Chesspieces
« on: March 03, 2021, 04:39:07 pm »

Introduces living chess to the game! They spawn in the underground caverns in groups of twenty, with a white set made of marble and black set made of obsidian.

Naturally, they will will quite happily fight against the other set and your dwarves. Some types have special attributes, and they can be tamed to act as guards as well!

Cute idea, however you should test if the pop ratio system actually works. If I recall correctly, DF ignores pop ratio when spawning wild animals, so there's an equal chance of every caste spawning. However, you can work around this by creating additional duplicate castes. So for example, PAWN1, PAWN2, PAWN3, and so on until PAWN10, and then BISHOP1 and BISHOP2, and so on for the knights and rooks, and you can leave the king and queen as is.

Thank you for pointing this out! I'll take a look and fix it, it must have slipped me by!

I once had them spawn but with an odd number about but I presumed that was due to individuals being killed by the friendly beasties in the caverns and a new group spawning only to also loose members. Admittedly pop_ratio has always somewhat confused me so I shall take a look and see whats going on. Thanks for the feedback!

No problem. Pop ratio works for civilized creatures like dwarves and for domesticated creatures, but not for wild spawns.
