Mil-Spec Nuclear-Thermal Engine MK2B -- [NTB]
A closed cycle molten salt thermal engine capable of producing thrust by heating up working fluid by exposing it to active fissiles. Uses new fissiles. No fissile material is allowed to escape due to the nanocomposite insulation that does not block radioactive emissions, thus allowing it’s begrudging use in habitable worlds. Provides Speed 3, and Speed 4 for combat engagements for as long as an “extended” firefight as a Yellow Line Feature.

Infared Laser Emitter -- [ILE]
A diode pumped solid-state infrared laser system designed to be mounted into the hull of a starship. It is a primitive solid-state laser that is effective against primitive Kinetic Armor. Lab testing indicates that infrared lasers have high efficiency, decreased range in both atmospheric and stellar operations, and cheaper components compared to other equivalent lasers of its size. It has a shorter range due to a small optic medium. Each slot denotes the installation of two large lasing installations, which constitute an increased risk of total disabling in combat. It has small optics, decreasing costs and size footprint at the expense of range. Two PPC costs are given for what role the weapon can fill: the first is for Assault-And-Fade Tactics, and the second is for extended conflicts to fulfill the pressure role. 40% Energy Conversion

We have successfully reproduced this component. We have no idea how effective it will be against the enemies armor, as although they have not engineered any countermeasures to lasing, this systems operational specs is specialized against defeating anti-lasing countermeasures to a slight detriment of its overall effectiveness.

The Curie Shipboard Fission Reactor has been something on the drawing board for awhile.  Still the shadow of the Bequerel Reactors is a long one.  But with the battle-proven success of the NTE, and analysis of the recently captured SUCK electrical systems, what could possibly go wrong?  Our intelligence services long ago identified SUCK's "MilSpec Fission Power Plant," and original CFR specs have been adjusted to be competitive.  Given our development of thermal management systems, (an area SUCK does not seem to possess) a Yellow-Line Protocol is proposed to stress those systems to temporarily "overclock" the CFR for a "Recharger de Combat."

A solid state thermoelectric generator harvests heat from a Saint Laurent-style shipboard fission reactor, charging copious SUCK-inspired high density capacitors.  The end product is PPC generation and storage in a tighter form factor than legacy solar arrays.  The capacitors can store 20 PPC for the length of a deployment, however a well-maintained system can only safely generate 4 PPC "every couple of hours."

As we anticipate further high intensity combat, the system is capable of a Yellow-Line "Recharger de Combat."  In this procedure, the CFR is overclocked to rapidly generate PPC.  Doing so significantly stresses shipboard thermal systems, reducing the overall Thermal rating of the vessel for the remainder of the deployment.

Estimated Values: PPC 20/4, Cost: 10 Maintenance 2
Estimated Tags: Yellow-Line
Difficulty: Normal (0 mod)
2d4--> 3+4 [Superior craftsmanship]

The component we have designed is ultimately similar to the high-yield low storage systems that the enemy has developed in the pursuit of their energy weapons programme. Analysis indicates that Skanzat forces focus upon having large reactors and enough capacitive storage to regulate the voltage spikes with the absolute minimum of tonnage dedicated to the latter task.

The variation we have produced with the Curie Shipboard Fission Reactor (CFR) represents a refining of that system, with a utilization of higher yield thermal systems. We are unsure of how they have managed to run their peak systems at maximal PPC rating without significant increases in risk, and have come to the conclusion that they simply accept the risk. Thus, without any particular update to the capacitive systems themselves, the capacitors we use will become progressively more dangerous as the maximal power demand becomes greater, even overcoming our engineered blast magazines in certain cases.

Although it is not entirely true to claim that this is entirely a work of our own engineers operations, as significant portions of the microcomponent layout in the transformers and etcetera are lineage from captured war materiel. However, we did produce several of the massive maintenance reducing elements that the enemy independently solved for their systems as well.

If there is a significant surplus of thermal management control, it can be diverted into the reactors, allowing for operating temperature way over standard spec. Careful management is required however, as the system is delicately close to entering a supercriticality run-away event as well  necessitating a reduction in the capability of thermally protective systems. The return is significant however, as it’s running power generation increases up to 8 PPC. Normal operations allow for a constant sustain of 4 PPC for battle operations, with 20 PPC being available for a standard duration until the pulsed power containers are depleted.

Curie Shipboard Fission Reactor [CFR]
Capacitor banks are recharged by a Solid State Thermoelectric Engine hooked to the ship's plasma core nuclear reactor. Maintenance is simplified by the well engineered power systems. The Capacitors are more dangerous as they scale along the input of the highest PPC drawing item on a ship. Batteries have a storage of 20, reactor has an output equivalent to 4 PPC. Ship power output can be overcharged by taxing coolant systems and increasing disaster risk.

Analysis of the SUCK Gate Key explains the physics behind their so-called "Dimensional Sheathes:" they coat their entire vessels in a transplanar material that ablates into oblivion.  As our Intelligence Services had previously established, this is a tremendously energy intensive endeavor.  What if instead, we maintained transplanar physics over a more focused and specific material, namely a thermal superconductor.  And what if that thermal superconductor was maintained half in our dimension, and half in colder non-vacuous dimension?  We could heatsink our vessels in the infinite reservoirs of another universe.

We have now have the cryptographic algorithms to do so, so why limit ourselves to polluting only our home dimension?  It's what our ancestors on Earth would've wanted.

Est Values: Cost 6, PPC -4, Thermal 4
Difficulty: Hard (-1 mod)
2d4--> 3+2-1 [Below Average]
The processes that go into creating Dimensional Sheathes are a fascinating, if obtuse, process. We have managed to sidestep the projector process and optimize it for thermal conducting into higher dimensional spaces that do not have transluminal effect. (to prevent undue calculation burden on allied gate key systems). The resulting projector is capable of hyperformas that are almost, but not quite as effective as the leading non-higher dimensional heat exchanging materials. What does matter, however, is its ability to conduct heat away from the warship to the higher dimensions. This blows out any peer made radiative systems by a huge margin.

It is not all positive developments. While theoretically manufacturable as an interior module, it requires exterior positioning due to the less than perfect containment of the off-shed matter from the near-higher spaces. In addition to the terrifying prospect of containing this dimensional matter, the projectors we are capable of forging are poor, and the higher dimensional material produces periodic bursts of high energy radiation that would require tons of shielding to suppress, or mere meters of distance. The optimal operation of the projector is thus designed as an outwards facing mechanism similar to the enemies projectors.

It is also incredibly difficult to engineer perfect projectors, resulting in the structures progressively losing cohesion and becoming fuzzy, requiring periodic restarts, not to mention that the projected material is vulnerable to collapse by enemy firepower. The optimal shape for the projected material is in the shape of feathers to make an optimal conductive radiator system.

As a note, the “flux” material that the enemy shields off gas is also emitted by these projectors, but in such low quantities that it is considered acceptable to let it be consumed through de-generating the ships expendable coolants that are then outgassed as normal.

Transplanar Thermal Superconducting Radiator (TTR)
A novel thermal management system consisting of a higher dimensional projector capable of creating feather-like thermally conductive feathers that connect to a higher dimension to dump heat off the ship it is built into. The feathers are vulnerable to enemy fire like normal radiators. Shield flux is first neutralized by expendable coolants and is outgassed.

To recap:

We're down to just one gateship, so we should prototype a new one and probably refit the surviving Seine hull.

Quote from: Revision: Powered Point Defense Magnetic Autocannon (pAC)
As the loss of the Mundus proved, our 10mm Magnetic Autocannons (mAC) are inadequate in the point defense role.  Powered Point Defense Magnetic Autocannon (pAC) is a refinement of the mAC to better fulfill this role.

With mAC pre-dating the Magnetic Gun Battery (MGB), pAC now uses better nanomaterials, thus lessening the need for problematic cryocooling fluids.  Of course, the MGB's nanomaterials bring their own maintenance problems, but at the very least, the mechanical accuracy issue is resolved.

In addition, the autocannons have been upgraded with SUCK-inspired electrics.  When provided with PPC, pAC turrets can now burst fire their autocannons: rapidly discharging magnetically accelerated rounds in a momentary burst before having to cease fire for cooling.  (Without PPC, pAC performs a similar rate of fire as the mAC, thus retaining the system's legacy role as a secondary armament.)

With these combined capabilities, the pAC can now deliver tight burst of fire on a point target, such as an incoming enemy projectile.

Estimated Values: Cost 5, Maint 2, PPC 0/-2

Quote from: Revision Gate Key v3.5 "Long Reach Projection" and Starbolt Optimization(G3P)
Our current Gate Key v3 functions by use of a "Handshake Protocol:" an otherworldly interaction that connects two gate together.  While our theoretical physicists aren't sure how exactly to make the already optimized protocol itself execute faster, they have devised a means to initiate it sooner.  Using transdimensional projectors developed for the TTR, the Handshake Protocol can be initiated from a much farther distance from the entry gate.  Thus our squadrons will effectively open gates quicker, as they've already initiated the handshake protocol before reaching the gate.  The catch however, is that it takes dramatic amounts of PPC to perform the Handshake at such a distance.

Furthermore, the recently captured key from the Starbolt introduced some novel premises, in both hardware and software.  Frankly, the arcane voodoo our physicists tried to explain went right over our heads, but the "rat's nest" that normally engulfs the gate key compartment is much better confined and has less a structural impact on the overall vessel.  Furthermore, the cost-savings from these new methods means that even with the new "Long Reach Projectors," the resultant Gate Key v3.5 is less expensive than you would expect.

Estimated Values: Cost 10, PPC -8, Maint 2, Jump 8

TLDR: 100% increase in PPC consumption & 25% increase in production cost for 33% increase in performance & same maint.  Includes stuff from the captured Starbolt to reduce structural compromise and justify lower cost.

Quote from: Prototype: "Pont Neuf" Command Gateship Corvette
The "Pont Neuf" is a command gateship featuring the best in defensive technologies on the battle-proven Bouillion L hull.  Fitted with a triple block of the latest generation of nuclear thermal engines, the vessel should prove more than capable in maintaining a safe distance from threats to the squadron's commodore and gatekey.  Should battlefield positioning collapse (or the commodore insist on "leading from the front") newly developed thermal and point defense technologies should mitigate currently known SUCK weapon systems.  A surplus of PPC from the new reactor gives the ship flexibility and endurance during extended combat.  The Bouillion hanger is occupied with EW parasites, giving the commodore options to screen his squadron or perform other military deception ruses.

Elysium Command Arms Race of Conquest: Strategy Phase
Turn 6

Estimated Values: Cost 5, Maint 2, PPC 0/-2
Difficulty: Normal(+0 mod)
2d4-->3+3 [Above average]

As the resource feeds into our Elysium grow, new materials are rediscovered with the experimentation and development along the archives we have inherited. However, none of that is really applied to the pAC weaponry, and the large amount of improvements onto the platform are attributed to a thorough re-engineering of the macro-scale shaping of the nano-materials. Essentially, we have shaped our coils in a more effective pattern, reducing the heat output of the mechanisms. The addition of the banks of systems for rapid power exhaustion  in exchange for burst fire capabilities allows for intensive firepower increases. We have even achieved a refining of the kinetic penetrator rounds, allowing for more effective disruption of enemy war materiel. It isn’t quite as effective as an equivalent amount of payload for flak or proximity charge rounds, however.

Powered Point Defense Magnetic Autocannon (pAC)
The mAC is a series of turreted autocannons with integrated fire control and sensory systems. It is designed as a dual 10mm magnetic accelerator ball turreted autocannon, of which five per slot is put onto the hull. The turret is rated for a 180 coverage on both axes. It utilizes kinetic penetrator rounds. Carefully shaped magnets deliver the payload with only some-what severe maintenance tables associated with the maintenance of its cryocoolers and magnetic coils. It is capable of hyper-burst fire, with a requirement of a massive power feed input. It is somewhat inaccurate due to the action of the cooling systems. It is self-contained, and only requires Maintenance to function.

This variation on the gate Key has been very enlightening in learning how to create more exotic projections and structures in higher dimensional spaces. This is a lesson hard earned, however. Just as structural members snap when used to lever up too much, the Gate key's most expensive component, the mountain of matter moved “upwards” into upper dimensional space, can break under the cataclysmic forces of the handshake protocol. With expanded power limits, we did partially reinforce the structure behind the Vorpal blade. We’ve really chafed in keeping to the limits set for power allocation, but we did manage to stabilize and reinforce the mechanism by increasing the material “up” there instead of expanding the anchoring on the gate-key equipped craft or increasing power allocation. It has actually manifested an effect on the ship itself:

The ship weighs more than expected. Each individual component when weighed does so as expected, but we consistently  fail to reach expected acceleration as if our ship weighs more than the sum of its (normal space) parts.

Furthermore, the mass of higher dimensional wires has been condensed, forming into a chandelier like structure, with four fifths of it’s structure safely enveloped into a single room. It is a terrifyingly expensive and delicate piece of equipment with little distribution in comparison to previous iterations, but the structural compromisation of the nested ship has been reduced.

Gate Key v3.5 "Long Reach Projection" -- [G3P]
It resonates with a higher energy. It cuts an aperture with a Vorpal Blade, it screams to the Gate with the Handshake Protocol from afar, and the Gate Network responds by opening the iris’s of two gates and connecting them for a brief time. The Gate Key is an expensive tool required to traverse the Gate Network. This one has the functions required to open the gate and allow other ships to traverse, provided they are equivalent or lesser in mass to the Gate Key-bearer. Part of the installation process entails esoteric banks of processing stratum that have been through cycles of engineering to perfect the process. The Vorpal blades structure has been expanded and anomalously weighs down the ship.

215 - 51 Maint - 78 Prototype = 86 Available Production

What to build?  Now something important that got dropped from the spoilers is that we have AC-03 mostly built in the shipyard (47/66).  So -19 brings us back up to two Chartreuxs...

67 left...  Conveniently another Chartreux is 66.  But doesn't leave any room for upgrades.

I'm okay with that.  Given our losses last battle, that would restore the fleet to 3 lineships vs. only 2.  That extra Char seems like a better escort for the 2 gateships, 2 Corsairs, and the last Terra.  Not sure what to spend that last PP on, as anything we should build next turn should be a new prototype given our move to PPC use.

Quote from: Production Plan: Purina
Finish AC-03 for 19 Production and christen as "Donskoy."
Produce AC-04 for 66 Production and christen as "Manx."

Spend the last PP on... something.

As for strategy?  Gotta go all in on Ranachuri.  SUCK is still getting an obscene amount of production that we need to neutralize.  Presumably our RAD's will be great at assaulting the Citadel.

Quote from: Strategy: "Infraction" Point
Summary: Following reinforcement, fleet advances from beachhead in Roses Star to assault the Citadel protecting Ranachuri.  Objective is to seize, or at the very least deny, SUCK further exploitation of Ranachuri.

Order of Battle:
FT Terra - Remora Assault Transport
GF Seine - Gate Ship + EW Squadron + Bomber Squadron
AC Birman - Gunship + Bomber Squadron
AC Dosnkoy - Gunship + Bomber Squadron
AC Manx - Gunship + Bomber Squadron
MFC Corsair - Remora Heavy Assault Transport + SciTac
MFC Jean Bart - Remora Heavy Assault Transport + SciTac
GC Pont Neuf - Gateship + EW Squadron

Orders:  Continue advance within Rose's Star, consolidating gains from Operation Verdun.  Remora equipped vessels should assault the Citadel guarding Ranachuri.  SciTac analysis of the Citadel should be made to identify weaknesses and breachpoints.  EW squadrons should be used to mimic an additional force further from the Citadel, to delay the response of the enemy fleet.  All other vessels should escort and screen the assault on the Citadel.  Final objective is to seize, or at the very least deny, SUCK further exploitation of Ranachuri.

Well that went pretty well.

Getting the Marne back was an unexpected bonus.  So while we lost the new gateship, we got the old one back.

We also completely obliterated 4 of 7 of their new "raiders."  Which is nice, but I'm now worried how the hell they put out that many new ships in one turn?  Were they really that cheap, or are SUCK cranking out that much PP?

With that in mind...

Quote from: Infrastructure Design: Galton Genetic Therapy Service Contracts
Although our ancestors had once eradicated most genetic disorders from the gene pool, life amongst the stars has reintroduced them in force.  Due to persistent cosmic radiation exposure, even the most vetted of bloodlines may produce a fetal mutation.  For example, rates of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, and Huntington's disease now significantly exceed Old Earth records.  While pre-natal and post-natal therapies are available to correct these and other disorders, the cost of such drastic medical intervention has prevented widespread adoption beyond the upper class.

Which is not to say we couldn't expand these crucial life saving services to the Public Health Service.  But with our current conflict, the budget has other priorities.  But what if...

Galton Genetic Therapy Service Contracts will bring these therapies to the masses while increasing the labor pool and also directing it towards government service.  Based on the severity of the disorder, parents may sign a service contract of five to thirty years.  (Parents would be amenable to sign a child destined to die from Tay-Sachs disease to a full 30-year career in the Fleet.  Whereas parents with a Crohn's, sickle cell disease, or G6PD deficiency diagnosis would rather negotiate a less intimidating contract.)

Upon completion of primary education, Galton Contractees are required to pursue further education in the military or civil service academies.  Failure to graduate secondary education may result in direct military enlistment of a Galton Contractee.  Contract time begins upon job placement, either via military enlistment or other qualified service.

It is believed that once having thoroughly established themselves in a career track, many Galton Contractees will stay within their service beyond their initial term.  Those that do depart under honorable terms will likely take their vocational expertise to other defense and defense-adjacent industries.  Overall, we can expect Galton Genetic Therapy Service Contracts to have major effects not only on military manpower, but the war economy as well.

Est Effect: 25 Resources

Hey, let's get PP and make Children's Hospitals a thing of the past!  We set some of the tech groundwork for this with the Xenobovines already.  I know I talked about pushing for super-soldiers, but if we're behind on PP, boosting the labor pool seems like a better idea.

Quote from: Design: Gate Capable Shuttle - 3 "Argent" Hull
A surprisingly long-lived hull, the GCS-2 Aero is still rooted legacy pre-combat technlogy.  The GCS-3 Argent is a full rework the GCS class 3x2 hull to meet modern Fleet requirements.

Much like the GCS-2 Aero, the GCS-3 Argent is designed with atmospheric operations on Ranachuri in mind.  The already light hull is streamlined and features hydraulic control surfaces for aerodynamic flight.  Aesthetically, this presents as delta-wing vessel, vaguely reminiscent of the Old Earth "Space Shuttle."  However, the exterior of the hull is a highly polished stainless steel alloy, (as its name would suggest.)  Besides providing low atmospheric drag, the reflective stainless steel exterior reduces absorption of laser light energy.

Following lessons learned from the Sabalier and Bouillon hulls, the GCS-3 Argent is generally more survivable.  Inside the stainless steel exterior, structural elements are engineered to modern MILSPEC standards, and key sections of the hull are appropriately armored.  Redundant electrical, life support and thermal fluids lines allow these critical shipwide networks to be bypassed and/or compartmentalized to isolate battle damage.  Given the known enemy threat of thermal energy, the integral thermal fluids system is over-engineered.  While still more fragile than larger contemporary hulls, the GCS-3 Argent should move more suitable to combat roles than its predecessor.

In line with the GCS-2 Aero, forced air intakes allow for rapid cooling of both rear thruster blocks, effectively doubling their performance in atmospheric flight.

Straight forward GCS upgrade.  Didn't want to be too boring so I stuck the reflective skin as an anti-laser countermeasure.  Combined with the integral 1 point of thermal rating and newer armor, should make the hull tankier against SUCK lasers.  Presumably we're going to prototype this into a Terra troopship replacement this turn for the landings on Ranachuri.

And for the sake of everyone's sanity, I corrected and streamlined the tech and ship design spoilers.  Obsolete stuff has been pushed to a third "Legacy Tech" spoiler.
