Despite, or perhaps  because of our extensive rush to finish the turbines, we actually managed to get so much done that there was a sizable amount of time where our engineers spent their time doing...well...nothing. At least, nothing with direct orders anyway. They didn't just spend a whole month standing around doing nothing after all, though their work wasn't exactly unified during that time, even if it was focused on the turbines. That time did however allow any errors or overcorrections done during the rush to be fixed in advance, though there weren't that many to begin with anyway. Regardless, it might be best to work on a redesign of some of our ships to incorporate the new engines as a refit. Though, any refit to existing ships for the new engines will likely take a fair bit of time...

Much like the turbines, there is some time that, due to our rushing, is left spare, though the project only finished a week before the deadline. Much like the turbines, there weren't any errors that weren't patched out before the finished designs were shipped off, with the obvious difference that they were sent to the various Unions of Armaments rather than the Machinist Union, but otherwise the end result is the same. Unlike the turbines though, refitting our ships which can use the guns shouldn't be that difficult. Mostly because other than the Compromise Class there isn't any ship which uses any of the guns that we have built yet. Though, some modifications are needed to the turrets of the Resoluut class due to the half an inch difference. But nothing that will require that much work to add...Hopefully it doesn't add to the weight too much though.

Once more the joint project that brings the branches of the forces of the military together have born fruit. The first of the join projects has resulted in the new UVW T96G, which is a highly effective improvement over the old rifle with a long bayonet, six rounds loaded via en bloc, and is quite reliable. Further, thanks to an idea by the general Rutger Buyskes has resulted in the creation of the UVW T96 Springstoffen, affectionately nicknamed by the troops as the "Mini Coehoorn" due to what it effectively makes the rifles it's affixed to into. Other than this there is the UVW T96SAP and it's service variant, both with a few optional modifications like a stock. It has 12 rounds and fires as fast as one can pull the trigger, though while likely one of the most reliable semi auto pistol in the world right now, that doesn't say that much relatively speaking. Still, it's solid, though it's caliber is a bit lacking. The last things of note are the UVW T96HG which is a simple hand grenade on a sizable cudgel like stick, though it is designed similarly to the Coehoorn and designed to be thrown similar to a spear after the handle a the bottom is twisted to prime the explosive. Other than this, there is also the UVW T96S shovel that is being distributed to most soldiers and the UVW T96M knife, similarly distributed. Lastly, there is the UVW T96H "Emmer Helm" which has a distinct design that makes it look similar to a bucket, hence the affectionate nickname. Most of this equipment is fairly easy to make and won't take too long to get to our forces, and will surely out preform them and then some. On average this equipment should put us slightly above average compared to the enemies own kit except at close range in tight quarters. The helmet is also proof we clearly care about the defenders of the working class as much as we care about the working class.

Work on cutbacks to the TTT is something that isn't met with much enthusiasm by the people who actually worked on the original project, but still done. A number of things are done to make ease of maintenance greater through simplification of the production on the replaceable parts along with making dividing the engine in a number of ways so as to allow easier access to portions that require maintenance while not shutting down the entire engine. This will increase the viability even in battle, provided the ship hit in the engines stays afloat long enough for them to be partially repaired but other than this mostly this process has ironically made the initial cost of the engines instillation more expensive, yet after it's maintenance has gone to roughly equivalent compared to the older ship engines. Regardless, there are further plans available to make the design cheaper, though at a cost to performance to the point that would make the effort of installing it less viable than one of the older engines.

Work on streamlining the production of the A1 class has come down to two things, firstly, working with the new engine, and secondly, working on faster and more effective ways of creating the various segments of the small hull. This work has resulted in two things. Firstly, a drastic reduction of the maintenance cost of the smaller vessels due to further streamlining of the many parts of it mainly thanks to the engine, and secondly it has been a bit of a fight to work on how to manage to keep the costs of building it down despite the costs of the new engine. Luckily, thanks to a number of connections with the shipbuilder unions and a fair bit of ingenuity, we managed to keep the cost roughly the same as before while building at a major maintenance slash. Further, our work has opened up the doors for some potentially greater shipbuilding speed for lightly armored ships such as the A1 and cargo vessels should we put a good deal of effort into it. Though, such a project will likely result in us having to foot a bill to aid the shipbuilder unions. Though, this would have to be it's own project in the future.

While the center has reformed and held, things in the east are certainly not looking good. With luck, the new ships and their freshly trained crews will be able to help in turning the tide. Really, we need a major victory to force the Magna to kneel before things get particularly bad. (6, 4) Especially given our intelligence reports have corrected our last claims and provided proof that the Marcus Antonius, Lucullus, Labienus, Horatius and Virgil have not sunk. And given the last major report from our intelligence, this is fairly important...

The unions have allocated an additional 6 PP to our cause. Let the workers work and will pave the path of progress to victory.

I wrote a ship design to act as a speedbump for Magna's cruisers, as well as something with enough speed, armour, and range to act as a cruiser in its own right. Criticism is appreciated. I honestly believe something must be done about their cruiser advantage, or we will be strangled.

The so-called “Hybrid Kruiser'' - named due to it resembling two proposed designs put together, as well as it combining features of armoured and protected cruisers - is a proposed replacement for the Zeerover-Klasse of Speciale Kruiser, as well as as a counter to Magna’s cruiser supremacy. It is larger and faster than the Zeerover, coming in at a normal displacement of 8,000 tons at a length of 550 feet at the waterline, a beam of 65 feet, and a relatively shallow draught of 15ft. The ship has a flush deck.

   The Hybrid Kruiser mounts six 8” guns in three double turret-on-barbette mounts, all on the ends, with one superfiring forward in a so-called A-Bs-Y configuration. The secondary armament consists of twelve 4” guns in double deck and hoist mounts amidships, three to a broadside with the middle turrets superfiring, and the tertiary battery is sixteen single 2” guns in pedestal mounts placed wherever there is room on the deck, superstructure, turrets, and even inside the superstructure behind drop-down panels. Torpedo armament consists of four single above-water swivel launchers, two to a broadside, each with six reloads. Ample space on deck has been left for mounting Stoommachines or proposed Spiemortiers.

   The Hybrid Kruiser mounts its belt armour in an armoured cruiser-style layout, rather than a normal-for-its-displacement protected cruiser design. The main belt armour is 6”, and extends upwards of 9 feet, covering 65% of the ship's length - from A to Y barbettes; with 4” on the primary and secondary turrets and their barbettes; 1” of deck armour at the core of the ship in a turtleback-layout; and 1” of splinter protection elsewhere - including all of the tertiary battery guns. The conning tower receives 9” of armour. MF armour is used throughout.

   The Hybrid Kruiser uses geared steam turbines with mechanical stokers and mixed-firing boilers to achieve a speed of 25.5 knots at flank. Enough coal is carried to give a range of 8,000 nautical miles at a speed of 12 knots. Four shafts with multi-stage turbines make up the propulsion system.

   The design has three sets of fire control computers, which can either be rigged to each control a primary turret or one controls the primary battery, one controls the secondary battery, and one is a spare that can control either the primary or secondary battery if one computer is knocked out.
   
   Opinions differ on how to classify the Hybrid Kruiser. “Small armoured cruiser”, “cruiser”, and “armoured cruiser” were bandied about, before “snelle pantserkruiser”, or "fast armoured cruiser" (hull symbol: CA), was nominated because it represents a new generation of armoured cruiser.

Edit 1: Made some edits on the belt armour to clarify the layout and reduced the conning tower armour by an inch to reflect modification of the design.

Here's one proposed plan, plus a revision/joint project. I'm just throwing things out there right now to let people explore our options - we need to choose our path carefully.

It has become increasingly apparent that the Worker's Army would be benefited by a light, infantry-portable artillery piece. Not to be outdone, the Navy has drawn up a proposal for a joint project to arm the army, marines, and even some boats.
The proposed weapon is the "spiemortier", or spigot mortar. It consists of little more than a tube, a firing piece running up the tube, and a removable baseplate and stand. There are two versions, one with a tube of roughly 50mm in diameter primarily for mobile applications and marine use (not to mention the army, allowing us to bill this as a joint project) and one with a spigot tube of roughly 75mm; primarily intended for static applications. A trigger can be connected to the firing pin, and they can be ganged together, allowing multiple mortars to fire at once (mostly used for the naval Kogelvis mount and the 8-tube “Octopus” mount available for infantry and marines). They are lighter and cheaper than a conventional mortar of the same capabilities. Depending on the angle, the 75mm Spiemortier can fire out to roughly a kilometre.
 The ammunition consists of a shell with a hollow in it, allowing it to fit over the spigot of the mortar. The shell usually (but not always, especially in shells meant for Kogelvis mounts) has a plug that fits over the spigot, trapping the exhaust gasses and suppressing the report of the mortar’s firing to nearly silent levels. In this instance, the mortar remains all but silent by "catching" the plug before it can escape with the shell. Because the shells do not need to fit inside the tube, a variety of ammunition sizes can be used, giving soldiers in the field a wealth of choices. Some ammunition types in use with the Spiemortier include High Explosive, Parachute flares, and smoke, and while the infantry version in 50mm is constrained to 50mm shells (although the tube fitting over the spigot can be removed to fire larger shells with a loss of silence), the projectiles reach sizes of up to 200mm for the Kogelvis and Octopus mounts.
In the naval "Kogelvis" mounting, up to twenty-five 75mm Spiemortiers have been ganged together to fire at once; and they have been arrayed in such a manner so as to fire in a diamond pattern, saturating the area they are fired in. This allows for fast-moving targets (or with the right fuzes, underwater targets) to be effectively targeted.
A “Zwakenberg” pedestal mount is available for naval use; consisting of three of the infantry version mounted together along with a Stoommachine physically attached to the mount.

This plan continues to push our army's advantage and challenges their cruiser supremacy. Also, autocannon, for arming smaller boats (and because we had a die leftover).
