Pregame Revision Phase of Turn 4:
Quote from: cheaper guns
the M1895 guns are world class but their cost and wear leave much to be desired, this revision focus on finding ways to improve the manufacturing cost and wear resistance of the barrels with out changing the dimensions of the guns to ensure that they can still fit in the mounts of the compromise and zeerover classes.

Effectiveness: 4

Work to improve the M1895 line of guns, specifically their cost, was a simple choice. Work was initially done to try and make the guns less complex, but soon after only minor adjustments, priorities shifted to instead making a deal with a few local workers unions to improve the price of the guns. Their only request was that we us our budget to pay for a few luxuries for the workers at the factories making the guns, such as funding for a proper set of drinking fountains and a nice lunch room in addition to replace the old machinery. This was simple enough, and with this, along with further minor redesign, the rifling now doesn't wear out as quickly as before, and instead goes at a more reasonable rate. These changes in production and in creation have helped the cost with both our ships, and has just barely been enough to reduce the price to a level below our costal defense ship. Still, in the future with further work on costs, we might be able to get our ships further down in price, and not by the skin of our teeth. Though doing so will likely require more one time payments to the factories of various unions.

It is time...Build your legacy fleet! Be sure to include the names of the ships...or don't and let the shipyards make up their own. You have 75 PP for this, and each ship will cost only one season's worth of build time. You also should chose whether or not to keep the academy open.
Do note, the first ship of each class will share its name, at least, generally speaking. If you do something like the V class or Tribal class, then things will be a bit different.

Alrighty, I did the math and found out the possible allocations of funding for the Zeerover and Compromise class of ships to balance our fleet. Be advised that I am terrible at math so do not take these numbers as final, I encourage you too run them yourselves.

Quote
Zeerover cost, 5PP. Compromise cost, 6PP
4 Zeerovers, 9 Compromises
5 Zeerovers, 8 Compromises
6 Zeerovers, 7 Compromises
7 Zeerovers, 6 Compromises
8 Zeerovers, 5 Comrpomises
Continuing until there is there is 0 Compromises and 15 Zeerovers at full PP usage. Also, if we dump all our PP into Compromises we will be able to build 12 Compromises with 72 PP usage.

if we want to keep the school running

Quote

5 zeerover, 5 compromise
6 zeerover, 4 compromise
7 zeerover, 3 compromise
...
11 zeerover or 9 compromise

To reiterate what has been my argument for a long-ass time, we need that school. We have few enough ships that anything that makes those ships better is vital for us. As for fleet compilation, Im leaning toward the 5&5 or 6&4

Well, since it appears that noone else has been willing to do it, heres my plan for the start.

Quote from: Veenland Legacy Fleet
The school: OPEN
5 Compromise-Class vessels
> The Union, Herman Van Veen, Lourens van Vilet, Eldert Schimmelpennink, and the Reinout van Diermen
5 Zeerover-Class vessels
> The Zeerover, Pirat, Avonturier, Zwerver, and the Geest van het brengen van unionisme naar de massa door hun spullen af te nemen(better known as simply the Geest)

So, The union, several ships named after people, the pirate, the different pirate, the adventurer, the rover, and the spirit of bringing unionism to the masses via taking their things. If you have better names, suggest them please. As for why this mix? Well, its not wasting any money and we keep the school going, which we have enough ships that the functioning school is of more benefit than an extra 2-5 ships.

Quote
War Plan Blauw: Build 7 Zeerovers and 6 Compromises
War Plan Geel: Build 4 Zeerovers, 9 Compromises
War Plan Groen: Build 5 Zeerovers, 8 Compromises

Three War Plan Build Orders, Blauw leaning more on the side of Zeerovers while allowing us to make three taskforces of 2 Compromises or two taskforces of 3 Compromises. Geel and Groen allow us to lean heavier on CDS ships with a smaller group of raider Zeerovers

So GM confirmed that education has a build up time too.  Plus coastal guns are a terrible investment until we have an idea where combat will even happen.

Summer, 1895, Design Phase.

Well, the Bourgeoisie masters of Magna Mongadizafra finally have gone and done it, and they have officially declared war upon us using the whole fishing issue as a cause for their war, and they have the gal to even go so far and say that this was a defensive war against our so called agression! Well, no matter. The unions and our brave soldiers will dash aside their pathetic forces in short order once the fighting starts. Already the Army plans on moving to secure the contested islands, though this should be fairly easy, given both are already mostly under our control, and intelligence already knows how pathetically poor their army is compared to our own. So long as the islands still get their supply, we will be fine.

Still! The proletariat never rests! There is work to be done, and defense of our nation shall be a swift and decisive one. Our ships are some of the highest quality in the world and we will be sure to show the superiority of socialist science, and liberate our oppressed proletariat comrades in Magna Mongadizafra! Especially the few who have been quiet enough about their socialist beliefs to give us the information that the Magna Mongadizafra navy, which receives a massive chunk of funding, has between twenty and fifteen ships, of which at least a quarter of them are larger vessels.

It should be mentioned that, while our school has done quite a lot, some of our captains and crews are better than others, though they and our crews likely only need a few months at sea to be in good order.

With the start of the war, our funding has been increased and now we have 78 PP to do with what we please. Needless to say this will be vital in our efforts. Ideally we can utilize this to our advantage.

Well, I see two main routes its probably slightly better to go with.

>Design a destroyer and upgrade our torpedoes and school
>Design a MTB, upgrade our torpedoes and school, and potentially have a dice available for fixing our QF guns some more or something.

Both, obviously, also include doing what the initial plan was, which is "lol, shipbuilding spam". Depending on exactly how the MTB's get treated by Joe, Im leaning more towards the destroyers.

Anyways, here are the boat/ship designs I was thinking of
Quote from: Harbor Guard Speed Boat(HGSB)
This is a very light torpedo boat, designed to operate from ports to defend ports. Armaments consist of a 2" gun, two fixed 18" torpedo tubes pointing some 20° off of centerline(with one tube on each side of the boat), and a totally-not-stolen-from-the-army machinegun mounted on the rear transom. There are no defenses. Propulsion is via four engines of the "hot bulb" type, each directly linked to a propeller shaft, bring its speed to 30 knots. To achieve this speed, its range is limited to about four hours of operation and the boat is extremely lightly built, being mostly composed of laminated timber sheets. However, it should be noted that the HGSB does possess a double bottom, albiet as a side effect of fuel bunkerage more than anything.
Boats of this type are simply numbered. Tonnage is ~23-35 tons
Quote from: A-Class Destroyer
The A-class of destroyers are 400ton 30knot warships measuring some 225ft long(overall) with a beam of 20ft and a draft of some 9ft. Main armament of these ships is one 4" gun, four 2" guns, and four torpedo launchers for our Zeeslang torpedoes, with two on each beam. The main gun is protected by an open-backed turret armored against splinters and the 2" guns have splinter-proof gunshields. Although these guns are fired via local control and do not make use of our fire control systems, electric inclinometers and suchlike are provided so the gun captain can fire at a specific angle should they so choose.
Four boilers provide power to three steam engines, driving three shafts.
The ship is of turtleback arrangement and, other than splinter protection on the conning tower and over the engine spaces, is unarmored. Coal bunkers are positioned to provide some semblance of protection to machinery spaces and the ship does possess a double bottom, also acting as oil bunkerage. Range is intended to travel some 3000 nautical miles at cruising speed
Quote from: Zeeslang Mk2 Torpedo
This upgrade to the Zeeslang replaces with compressed-air driven turbine with a so-called wet-heater turbine, where compressed air is mixed with aerosolized fuel and burned before being fed into the turbine, with the combustion chamber being cooled with seawater, with the steam generated from this cooling *also* being fed into the turbines. This is projected to increase speed to nearly 40 knots and range to nearly 4000 yards.

Im a little sad that the full name of the Geest van het brengen van unionisme naar de massa door hun spullen af te nemen wasent included in its ship listing
