The A1-class of destroyers are a class of small escort craft designed to provide the fleet with an effective torpedo attack platform and an affordable means of increasing fleet protection against enemy torpedo attack.
The two 3" M1895 guns are arranged in an AX configuration (one fore, one aft) along the centerline. The twin torpedo tubes are placed along the centerline, one amidships and one aft of the rear 3" gun. The four 2" M1895 guns are placed two to a side where they can fit, with emphasis on effective fire arcs. The two forward 2" guns are arranged such that they can fire as close to straight forwards as possible given design constraints. All gun armament is in open mounts and fires under local control.
Splinter protection is provided over the engine spaces and conning tower. The coal-bunkers are arranged to provide additional protection against incoming gunfire for the ship's propulsion.
Range is adequate for decent time on station and some running around with the fleet, but nothing extraordinary.

The A1 Class is...honestly a wonder of hull engineering. See, we ran into the classic problem while working on the thing of trying to fit enough engine into the thing so that it could actually reach the desired speed, yet we struggled quite a bit to achieve our goal. Despite this, we still tried, and while there was some consideration to expand the hull by a hundred extra tons, we were able to actually get a few nice little additions to the ship that made it work all the better and actually reach the desired speed without increasing cost. Through careful work on the propellers and the additional work on the hull itself, we have been able to get past to 30 knots in speed. Of course, this isn't the full story, as for the sake of secrecy we have hidden the main work that has allowed us to achieve this speed. Turbines. Steam Turbines. Of course, at the moment the thing is a bit finicky, and it cannot maintain the speed of 30 knots for too long, but it should be long enough to have a meaningful difference in combat, even if it might cause maintenance issues. Other than this, the ship is fairly standard, including in cost of which most of that comes about due to the engine and the complexities at play with it. But still, it is possible a few further improvements could be done before the full design is finished that can reduce operating costs. Though, the finalization of the designs will take some time, yet will likely be workable in a year.
Costs 3/2, 3 season construction time.
It is now the Revision and Refit phase of Summer, 1895. You have 2 dice remaining to spend on Revisions and Refits, or save for next turn.

Zeerover Speciale Kruiser: A modest high speed cruiser with a fairly sizable compliment of guns for dealing with any ships of equal size and armor along with anything smaller than it, and a few things above it. The submerged torpedo compliment also gives it a chance to punch well above it's weight, if it gets lucky. Fairly expensive though. Costs 5/2, 4 season construction time.
Compromise Class: An effective, slightly overweight shore defense ship with powerful guns and substantial, high quality armor. Quite fast for a ship of it's armor and armament, not far off from our cruisers. Costs 6/3, 5 season construction time.
A1-Klasse: A extremely fast Torpedo Boat Destroyer with a good compliment of guns and modest torpedo armament. The bridge is armored enough to be safe from splinters, barring a direct hit. It should be noted however the engine cannot run at full speed for much longer than a hour without running into issues. Costs 3/2, 3 season construction time.
