Roseheart's Graveyard
« on: February 12, 2021, 12:52:24 am »

What is a game I've hosted that didn't finish, that you'd like to see play out?

I guess I should take this opportunity to say why it's so difficult for me. The biggest factors are that I am autistic, and where I lie on the spectrum makes it very difficult to remain professional. I have short attention span. Infact I read slow, not because I take longer to process a word, but because I lose my train of thought mid paragraph. I forget why I open a new tab. Or why I am even holding something sometimes. There's been games I took a small break from, and forgot I was even hosting it, until weeks later.

I also don't often host well established game formats, like Arms Race, or Mafia, or games with a clear path to completion. It's usually an experiment, and I have not always clearly communicated that. These days I add "[Lab]" to my game to signify it is something new.

I wasn't diagnosed until last year, and for about 5 years, I could not hold a job for any length of time, and I didn't know why. I was homeless. The only creative outlet I had access to was hosting forum games on public library computers. Often urgent matters relating to basic survival made it impossible to continue at times. Fortunately the happy ending already came. I was diagnosed, and I am living safely.

Sorry for oversharing like that, but I am constantly reminded by a handful of people that they proudly proclaim me to worst GM, the only true failure on Bay 12. I can't be more than I am, but I can be more honest about why I falter, and the risk that it will happen. It is a goal to reach the credits of my games, like I did with Tribe, hell or high water, I fucking did it.

I'm about to complete ArenaCraft tonight, and am considering what people want. Maybe it won't be my next game, but I'd love to hear what you liked...

MOVED:
This topic has been moved from forum games and roleplaying so I can field more non-forum games related questions, comments, and discussion. Though I'll still take suggestions for rehosting unfinished forum games I hosted in the past.

(Also, I did just finish ArenaCraft, another complete game in the can! :D)

So are you asking what kind of game we want you to run or are you asking for thoughts on arena craft?

Hey, don't feel bad, people fail to GM all the time. I know I do. I think I GMed a total of one game to completion (Shattered Lands).

Most forum games don't finish. What makes me stand out, is that I abandon so many. Not just players losing interest.

Nah, you should run one of my abandoned games instead. Power&Pulse or Vessel would be really fun~

That's a list of some of my most recent unfinished games. But there were many more. I am asking if anyone missed/still thinks about any for consideration for a new run of one. Or back when I was GameBoyBlue.

Anyway, it's not the only reason I have a reputation. It's because I tried to charge for a game. It was years ago, I was homeless and I was reading a lot of spiritual stuff about following your passion. I just always had to figure out my own way to do things (I didn't know why at the time, things were harder or easier for me than others and I didn't know why) so I made an offer to host a forum game, and I'd charge if they wanted to play again. I never did host the free one, not enough players.

Charging for a forum game is a strange concept to me.

Also I remember most of those games, even though some of them died before they even started.

Yeah, it's much simpler to just open a Patreon and emulate popular webcomics. It made sense to me back then because I was in a place where 50 cents (I think that's what I was asking) would have been a big deal. And others in my circumstances were being thrown $20 bills for holding a cardboard sign. I felt I was doing something creative and producing something that...I was able to do. Not saying it was a brilliant strategy or anything. People want to pay for forum games about as much as they do for pornography.

I was homeless

If you were homeless, you probably should have had higher priorities than hosting a forum game.

Power & Pulse (PvP focused game pitting interdimensional mech pilots against mages)
Power & Pulse 2 (Retry of the earlier abandoned P&P, got a little further before getting bogged down)
Vessel (Immortal angels possessing expendable human bodies on a mission)

I certainly did, I was working. Most recently I was a gametester for Microsoft. But other than that, a library was the safest place to spend the rest of my time.

I couldn't hold down enough hours to pay for a home, so I lived out of a vehicle (eventually parking at a church that had a homeless parking program).
