All beings that live have souls, on their death their souls are pulled into the sky, and eventually into the first plane of the afterlife, eventually they will awaken in the Sixfold court, where they will be judged for their actions, and eventually sent to one or the other afterlife, after serving their punishment, or reward, they are pulled to the river of reincarnation, where all of their memories will be ground off before their soul is returned to the world to be reborn.
souls can not be destroyed but can feel pain, and “die” in the afterlifes, death in the afterlife will cause ones soul to reassemble after a time, and return to where it is supposed to be. In no afterlife but the third can the souls of the dead “choose” to escape early- even if they were to escape the world, they would simply be pulled back in again until they had lived to the end of their punishment or reward.
The four planes of the afterlife are as follows:
Null, the endless void: used as a waiting room, and a punishment, it takes the form of an unseeable black sphere that orbits the world like an untouchable moon, within it- the laws of space and time are… malleable, easily twisted such that for those who are only being sent there to wait, a millennium outside can last a moment from their perspective, but just as easily they can be twisted to confine those sent to it as punishment in their own minds, a moment outside lasting an eternity within, all those confined within for any reason are kept an infinite distance apart, while taking up far less space then they should, unable to sense anything, only able to think.
Tormenttorium, the bloody plane: a land of pain and suffering, used as a punishment for most, geographically it is divided into five regions, four around one more, a desert of broken glass, a sea of boiling tar, a mountain of blades, a plane of unmelting ice, and in the center- a volcano, the weather is always awful, winds that grind the skin off flesh, rains that sear, storms of ash and dust so on.
There is “life” of a sort here, soulless beings formed from negative thoughts that exist only to bring pain upon others.
This section afterlife takes the form of a great red disk with only “downward” gravity on one side, it looks to be an immaterial red moon that orbits over the world from below.
Juggmento, the grey plane: Circled by the river of reincarnation, this land is the “reward” and “punishment” of those too mediocre to be sent to another part of the afterlives, and the general afterlife for beasts and animals, possessing forests, mountains, planes, and “boring” weather, its one defining trait is that it is grey and colorless, this trait is also imposed even upon the souls allowed to spend eternity here, at its creation- there is only one “man made” structure on it- the six fold court, where all souls will be judged, each soul being judged by five judges with a sixth empty chair left ceremonially open for Ik to judge from.
In theory the five judges normally presiding are the judge of black- who speaks only to break deadlock, the judge in red- who speaks only the crimes one has committed, and the punishments set for them, the judge in grey- who speaks impartially, explaining the true consequences of one's action or inaction, the judge in yellow- who speaks of the good one has done and the rewards that demands, and the judge in white- who speaks the will of the divine, and only speaks when one has broken taboo set by the gods, in practice, only those judges needed for your case will be there, in the one of one hundred thousand courtrooms. it has been determined that the Judges use mortal laws and religious laws based on the race and faith of the soul sent to them.
From below, this section of the afterlife, similarly to the last- takes the form of a great disk orbiting like a moon- only this one is a perfect grey.
Simulaccrum, the million worlds: unlike the other planes of the afterlife, this is not a singular place, it is an uncountable number of tiny worlds, each appearing like a tiny white star in the sky. Each only a single foot across outside, not that any would notice from inside, as within it can be almost any world one could imagine.
it is the “reward” for those who have done great good, and the punishment for those who deny their crimes and actions in front of the judges of the six fold court, those who are rewarded are allowed to live in their perfect fantasy, and those who deny their own crimes- are forced to live through every life they affected, and every life they harmed, every death, every pain, every loss- feeling it as though they were the one harmed in the hope that they would gain true understanding of their action, or at the least a wish for repentance.
