"Daisy" class ultralight walker:
Powered by a scrap engine, the Daisy is a small 2 man scout walker. 1 man drives the thing, and the other acts as a sort of gunner, though they only have a rifle and some grenades. The Daisy's legs are designed with two modes, wheel and walk, while in wheel mode the Daisy kneels down and activates a set of drive wheels for long range on road transit, in walk mode it walks using conventional means. The gunner stands on a small platform on the back of the mech, with a harness to keep them secure, the whole thing has a decent amount of armor on it. Overall the Daisy is designed to be two things, Fast, and Cheap. In engagements with other mechs, the Daisy's best bet is to be in a group and try to get a lucky shot in or chuck a grenade into something delicate.

Its is now the Design Phase of 1880!

The Sords with their fast walkers holds the initiative in the Hills while the two forces in the Keskusta Mountain grind at eachother and each side digs in for a tough siege. Your nations Generals and their previous thoughts on the conduct of war have been shattered by the developments on the frontlines this year, only time will tell what comes next.

Now get to doing what your 'benevolent' rulers have ordered, make more weapons to kill your hated foe with.

Now you will also be able to requisition guns from both the Army and the Navy at the beginning of a design phase. Requisitioning a guns does not use up your design turn. Instead either the Army or the Navy, depending on who you request from, will provide you with a set of weapons to choose from. These weapons will be free of charge but will have design drawbacks with all of them being designed without original ability to be mounted on mech in mind and in some cases outdated, they will also be un-revisable due to not holding the patents for the weapons.

Soul Furnace:
An experiment in Soul engineering, by concentrating a mass of Scrap souls into a reinforced chamber, then heating the chamber immensely, we will attempt to recreate the process which fuses Animagnus souls into being. The resulting Patchwork soul is highly unstable, literally falling apart as the souls come unfused, but the process should give us incredible insight into the way souls form and decay. This in turn will give us insight into the creation of superior soul engines and mechanisms.
Soul analysis device:
Based on the mechanisms of the Engine somewhat, this apparatus allows us to observe souls on a deeper level. Based on a perfect human soul interface through a Magnus engine it uses the connected soul to observe others, writing out readings on pieces of paper. For now this is a massive bulky piece of lab equipment, but it will give us a massive amount of insight into the mechanisms of souls and how to make a better soul engine. It should also let us investigate new and better ways of making soul engines and using souls.
Combined version, the Soul Science Department:
A subsection of our research division, the Soul Science Department is dedicated to the study of Souls. To that end they have a few critical pieces of equipment. First is the Soul analysis Device, based on the mechanisms of the magnus engine, this apparatus allows us to observe souls on a deeper level. Based on a perfect human soul interface through a Magnus engine it uses the connected soul to observe others, writing out readings on pieces of paper. The second critical piece of equipment is the Soul Furnace. Which is a massive soul containment chamber which we stuff multiple scrap souls into then heat to insane temperatures, in an attempt to recreate the process which fuses Animagnus souls into being, or create an alternative. The resulting Patchwork soul is highly unstable, literally falling apart as the souls come unfused, but the process should give us incredible insight into the way souls form and decay. Overall we hope that his new department will give us great insight into how to further utilize the power of souls. To protect this Department from Commisarial interference, and preserve safety of state secrets, knowledge of the Soul Science department, including it's current location and members, or participation/presence in such requires filling out forms SSD-1 through SSD-10, and waiting for them to be filled out by the relevant members of the department.

Picric acid-based explosives "Sordite"
The simple fact is blackpowder shells aren't cutting it, so we've looked into alternative explosives.
Eventually, Picric acid was decided upon, as it is remarkably shock resistant and powerful, the only problem is that it's salts are significantly less stable, so we can't let it be exposed to the metallic shell. Now, the great powers are working on all sorts of fancy stabilizing mixtures and what have you, but we're just gonna keep this relatively simple: double layer lacquer on the inside, then pour in the powdered Picric acid.

Its basically the Daisy, but stripped down to a single crewman and with some extra words.

Quote from: 'Foxglove' class ultralight walker
Powered by a single scrap soul, the Foxglove is a single-man mostly- bipedal scout walker. Standing one and a half times as tall as a man, the sole driver mounts from the rear, with the front and both sides rated against rifle fire. There is a number of hooks and attachment points for the crewman's gear, rifle and some grenades.

The Foxglove's legs are designed with two modes, wheel and walk, while in wheel mode the Foxglove kneels down and activates a set of wheel for long range on road transit (set up in reverse trike format,  with two steering wheels at the front and a single drive wheel at the back), in walk mode it walks using conventional means.

The Foxglove is intended to be cheap and numerous, acting as the dragoon of the modern day. Deployee in squadrons, they Foxglove will provide an elevated and armoured firing position from which to cut down enemy infantry. Against other walkers, avoidance or close assault with grenades is recommended. Scouts can also make good use of the Foxglove to observe enemy positions.

I'd also suggest requisitioning a light gun from the navy, specifically something that fires a 2.5-3kg explosive shell. The enemy will be fielding an armoured mech of their own soon, so we best have a decent gun to take it out with.

Against other walkers, avoidance or close assault with grenades is recommended. Scouts can also make good use of the Foxglove to observe enemy positions.

Rolled: 4-1=3. Difficulty -1 due to the leg-wheel set-up.

The Foxglove showed promise on paper but when trying to get it to work in practice many things were found. Firstly, there was no way a bipedal and wheel double drive system could be mounted onto the small frame of the Foxglove without the mech being almost too heavy to move under it's own power limiting it to only the leg system. Secondly, the armor placement under test fire was found to be insufficient, instead most of the armor was focused on the front of the mech to protect the Soul-Engine while the sides are replaced with thick wood panels covered in a thing sheet of steel to stop shrapnel and occasional rifle fire. We were able to mount a standard infantry rifle on a swivel mount in front of the driver giving him a 180 degree range of fire, the driver either needing to drive the mech with a single hand or cease moving the mech altogether to operate the rifle. We were unable to find any suitable grenades for the driver's use so home-made grenades from 37mm HE shells with added external fuses are used, these are quite volatile and prone to be either duds or exploding in the drivers hand.

----------

The Foxglove Dragoon Walker: A bipedal mech 1.5 times the height of an average man driven and operated by a single man. The main body of the mech is soely the Scrap-Engine used to power the pair of legs used for movement. The Foxglove is fully armored though with the most reliable armor protecting the front of the mech and the Soul-Engine. The driver has a single swivel mounted standard issue rifle and a handful of unreliable home-made grenades to use for offense and defense.

----------

The Navy responds to the call for weapons and presents a few weapons for trial

Sordland Ordinance 1.2" Quick Fire Rifle: The 'S-O 1.2" QF Rifle' fires a solid steel shell out of it's rather long 5'3" riffled barrel at extreme speed, designed for hitting small craft that get too close to Sordish capital ships the 1.2" shell was found to be too small to provide sufficient damage to enemy warships other than easily patched holes. It possesses a QF system to increase rate of fire, using recoil to kick out spent casings after firing. It is Cheap+

Sordland Ordinance 4.5"/45 Caliber Rifle: The 'S-O 3.5"/45 Rifle fires either solid shot or HE shells at high velocity. Using a complicated series of recoil pistons the gun is able to be fired from it's rather large mount with relative accuracy though it takes time to use as it uses an antiquated system of loading the shell and charge separately into the breech. This also increases the chance for magazine explosion on whatever mech this is mounted on. It is Expensive+ and Medium++ to mount.

There was a paperwork mix-up where a Sordland Ordinance 9" Rifle was delivered to the testing grounds but before it could be tested a group of naval officials arrived to collect the gun and return it to the shipyards for a Monitor Battleship under construction much to the displeasure to the mech engineers.

----------

It is now the Revision Phase

Quote from: Foxglove polish
The current Foxglove is a decent first pass, however we can do better. Thus we have a laundry list of small items that should, altogether, substantially improve the design:s
- The gearbox and engine will be looked at, to see if we can get some more power whilst maintaining an "infantry charge" speed
- To reduce weight whilst maintaining survivability, the single thick layer of armour will be replaced with a few layers of thin steel, with spaces between, similar to contemporary ship armour
- Drop the grenades, and use the weight allocation for the modifications and some more ammo
- The current needle rifle will be replaced with the S-O 1.2" QF Rifle (if we get them)
- A secure position for a carbine is added, in case the pilot needs to fight whilst dismounted

Foxglove Mech killer package:
The Foxglove is an excellent base all things considered, all it needs is some improved weapons to be a real terror on the battlefield. Thus we are replacing its armaments with the QF rifle. Ditching the unreliable grenades and mounted needle rifle. With the free weight from the grenades we should have enough leeway to safely mount the new gun. However, as the S-O 1.2 has a much longer and heavier barrel, and has more recoil thanks to its higher caliber, we will need to rethink the mech's weight distribution to compensate, and possibly prepare some way to brace the mech should the recoil prove too much for it to handle. The end result should be a cheap, fast moving mech hunting unit, though we may still want to deploy some of the original model alongside it to help deal with infantry attacks.

Rolled: 5. No difficulty.

The Mk.2 revision of the Foxglove has turned out to be mostly successful. It was found that there were no problems with the gearing that could be fixed without further increasing the weight of the mechanism, though the feet of the legs where changed into large decagons to provide more surface area and improve stability. We tested the proposed system of armor scheme and it was found to be too bulky to keep the Foxglove controllable and the quality of steel we're currently able to produce to be too brittle for the armor plates which would simply shatter on impact of a projectile, so the main iron plate covering the front of the engine has been replaced with a thinner plate of slightly higher quality iron. The rifle and grenades were easily replaced with the S-O 1.2" though the larger nature of the gun and it needing a more extensive mounting the driver is more exposed to enemy fire while aiming and firing the cannon. The high recoil of the cannon is generally well absorbed by Foxglove though when the walker is standing at awkward angles it tends to stumble a bit in place while firing. A carbine was found to get in the way even when mounted on the outside of the frame to the driver is instead issued a blackpowder cartridge revolver.

Foxglove Mk.2: The Mk.2 mounts a new 1.2" QF Rifle on the frame with slightly better armor protection and stability, it keeps the same speed as before though with a bit more sway while sprinting due to the abnormal length of it's main cannon. It is Cheap++.
