I’d like to point out that filter-feeding is technically predation.  The predator just happens to be considerably larger than the prey.  But don’t worry, our beloved Blish won’t be satisfied with such pitiful morsels forever... ;D
I mean, i don't think anyone was feeding on my species specifically. I did not expect our only prey to also become our only predator. That's one weird trophic chain, that's for sure.

Vote:  Fix the problem with the gills.  Do whatever needs to be done (for example, making it so that the blood vessels in the gills aren’t so close to the surface and/or making them so that they are better at retaining their contents ) in order to eliminate loss of fluids/blood/nutrients while also ensuring proper oxygenation.

SS Vote:  Fix the problem with our filter-feeding.  Do whatever needs to be done (for example, making the epistyle larger and/or stickier) in order to trap more food.  If necessary, reduce the number of pharyngeal slits (note, however, that any reduction in the number of pharyngeal slits should be accompanied by a reduction in the length of the pharynx) while still maintaining good oxygenation.

Note that, in the case of both the above votes, we want oxygenation (and nutrient uptake/retention) sufficient to power the banks of myomeres that we plan on adding on the next turn (and which we would have added this turn if the last turn had worked properly  >:().

Turn 12

Event

Strength Dice: 48
Temperament Dice: N/A

Nothing of significance happened this era.

Team Pancake
Naturegirl1999: Supports Demonic Spoon
Kilojoule Proton: absent...
Demonic Spoon: Wind dispersed seeds, reminicent of ones of dandelions: 5+2=capped at 5

Puffy Greenplate
The young of the Greenplate forest had a really difficult time trying to get out of shade. Most didn't even got to establish roots. And through time, the younglings that could venture out of their parents shade the furthest were selected for, eventually giving rise to this new method of reproduction. The younglings are now very small and embrionic, and are encased in a tough outer layer, which is covered by a dense layer of very light and frictionless fibers. Greenplates produce alot of these seed from everywhere along their trunks, covering them with a puffy coat. They constantly shade these seeds, and the forest now has a constant source of dust that behaves like snow and culminates on the ground.

As a weird side effect, the seeds now cover the very shallow sections of the coasts, and are eaten by the Lagus.

Status:LC

Description:A green plant shaped like a flat, rough circle supported by a long, fuzzy stem. Its pan is a meter and a half in diameter, and it is stem is 4 meters long. A deep and extensive system of roots at the bottom of its stem dig into the soil and harvest it for water and minerals. It reproduces by producing and shedding a puffy coat of small airborne seeds that cover its stem. The walls of its cells are very durable and sturdy. It has dozens of tiny oil-filled pimples inside its stem, which used to be on its outer surface and for buoyancy on water, but now do not serve much of a purpose beyond being minor storage units. A system of veins course through its every tissue, and transport water and other essentials. It lives like your regular tree, forming vast, dense growths.

Habitat:All around the flat land surrounding The Crater Sea

Team Pasta Vēlōcis
A_Curious_Cat: Fix the gills: 2+1+2: 5
King Zultan: Supports A_Curious_Cat
Sexual Selection Vote: 5+1: 6

Mended Blish
The many errors caused by the previous addition of internal gills were fixed by the very force that got them existant, Magma rolling dice natural selection. Gills no longer leak anymore as they have been reinforced by more isolative tissue, and the filterfeeding mechanisms are much more secure, by the help of extra flaps that open when water is sucked in, and close when it is expelled. These flaps did lowered the overral efficency, but blish no longer has to inhale 120 times a minute when trying to feed, so it is fine.

The digestive tract also got some additional adaptations as well. The intestines are a bit longer, digestive juices are a bit more potent, and so on.

The adaptations that support the size increase can finally take full effect, Blish are larger now.

Status:LC

Description: An aquatic animal that is 35 centimeters long. It moves along the sea floor and above with its slow-beating, flagella-covered tail and digests any organic debris it can find through its mouth that leads to its complex, three sectioned digestive system, which leads to an anus. It has 10 black dots on its very front, 4 of them larger then the other 6. The smaller six form a hexagon that surrounds a square that is formed from the bigger 4, which surrounds a single jawless mouth. It uses these dots to smell the water around and act according to them, approaching or avoiding alike. These dots and everything this animal has as parts are connected to and commanded by a chord of nerves that runs from front to back of the animal that branches out to the rest of the body. It is close to a rod of cartilage that supports its body, and has an extension on its front that grants the animal a sense of airflow. A mane of thin and short crimson strands surround the head region, and functions as gills and ammonia disposal, along with a set of pairs of slits that function as additional gills. A system of blood-filled veins course through its body , powered by a single muscle pump. It reproduces by external fertilisation of eggs performed by two distinct genders. The fertilised eggs hatch into tiny juneviles, which reach full size and sexual maturity not too long after.

Habitat: The sea, near the sea floor as its food is there.

Sexual Selection vote: Better nervous system: 6+1: 7

Hypersexual Lagus
Lagus has evolved a circulatory system convergent to its very distant relatives. A muscle pump has formed, and it pumps a liquid that carries all sorts of essentials throught the body. It is separated into two 'sections' with the heart acting as a meeting point. One reaches from the heart to the tail, branching to the back fins as necessary, and the other goes to the gills to the head, and branches out to the front fins.

This has finally released its treshold of size, allowing lagus to reach to sizes larger then ever before, also resulting in a change in body shape. But there is a problem.

Its central ganglion have also managed to evolve and develop into a whole brain. But even though Lagus has defeated the goblin, this brain has a flaw.  A critical flaw. You see, its brain developed because  the ones that could communicate better had much better chances at mating, and while this pioneered its neural development to be more efficent, it quickly went outta whack when the mating signal being spammed became the best tactic. Lagus now frequently die out of exhaustion from mating too much. The sheer amount of Lagus has also become a problem, they are moving the algea growths like crazy, as they are now constantly hungry. Their populations fluctuate wildly as a result.

Status: EN

Description: A oval animal 50 centimeters in length and 30 centimeters in width. It slowly moves along the sea shore and chews algea. It has a tail resembling of a fish, which it uses to swiftly move around, and it is aided by two pairs of side fins keeping balance, one pair on the front, one on the back. Covering the body, a specialised layer of tissue prevents any nutrient loss. And under and around that, there is a calcite framework that keeps it rigid and provides pathways for its mucscles to work. This is further augmented with a net of nerves just beneath the outer layer, which also controls its movement and grants it a bit of pressure reception that informs it of the depth. This net of nerves converges into a lump in the head, which is a brain that houses a sex-crazed mind. It has a defined front side with a head, which has two giant, organised patches of heat sensitive proteins, kind of like heat eyes, that allows it to detect the amount of ambient and directional heat, and a jawed mouth that leads to a full digestive tract that also handles the ammonia disposal. 6 pairs of fleshy protrusions covered with red hairs function as gills. A set of veins and a heart transport nutrients and oxygen throught its body. Just above the eyes two long and flexible tendrils reside, and these end with fleshy orbs that produce heat, which equals to strong glow in their vision. These orbs also have cone and rod cells inside, which allows these orbs to function as primitive eyes capable of percieving shape, they can even change the amount of heat they produce to send messages to one another. It reproduces by the internal fertilisation by the gamet-injecting tendrils of Eral, and the internal hatching of eggs by Alur, who then releases the offspring onto a suitable patch of algea.

Habitat: The dense and long algea growths on the shores of The Crater Sea, which it is currently eating into oblivion.

Team Friendly Pancake
Kashyyk: Waterrakers now capture prey: 5+1= capped at 5
Sexual Selection vote: A communal nervous system: 3

Strangler Hivecake
A yet another caste has appeared inside the hivecake collective. These derived waterrakers harvest a bountiful resource, their only predator. Their tendrils are coated in a toxin that attacks their preys gills, and disables them, causing a swift death. Then they continue to wrap around their prey and very slowly digest them, carrying the nutrients into their circulatory system. This has put an evolutionary pressure onto the Eelish to avoid the traps, but so far their primitive senses can't distinguish it well,  because if they can smell it, it is too late.

And to grant further communication between the individual hivecake, a nervous system has evolved. But there is not much that it can direct besides nutrient need signals, so it is more of a hassle to look after. It is better and more accurate than chemical signalling though, so it has replaced it.

The nervous system has great potential, but it isn't fully utilised. The Eelish are nontheless still taking their toll, and the new traps set only slow them down.

Status: NT

Description: A complex of plants shaped like a flat circles with varying sizes. A ring of long and thin, retractable white tendrils reside, and are used to form connections with others of its kind to transfer nutrients. Surrounding the edges of the pan is a coat of bonding proteins that allows it to stick to others of its kind. It's tissues are tough to prevent injuries. It lives permanently stuck to the sea surface through the dozens of tiny oil-filled pimples across its body, which only some plants have. It can be found as mats numbering several tens of thousands plants, and never alone, as they die if they are separated. It features specialised subtypes. It has the ability to let others know if it is low on or has too much nutrients by using the communal nervous system, which others will act accordingly by either giving or taking nutrients. This accomplished by a communal circulatory system that spans the entirety of a given hive, and it is powered by the beating of tens of thousands of internal water pumps. It reproduces by splitting in two when it gets too big to expand their colonies, and by incubating settlers, which are made by a process that makes them genetically distinct, when creating new colonies.

Leonardo8: Circulatory system: 2+1+2= 5

Sexual Selection vote: Pheromonal signalling: 1

Clingy Eelish
The strip of fuzzy gills were still not enough to support the muscular body, so they started to grow inward to further carry the oxygen inside. Then they encountered the gas chambers, and at first interfered with their function. But then a multiplication error caused a particular individual to have two sets of the gas chambers. One had the connections and the interference, and it filled with onxygen rich water that then spread to the aimals inwards. This primitive carriage of oxygen then developed into a circulatory system. The blood chambers constantly shake up the liquid inside with their own valves, so that they come in contact with the gill extensions that line up their walls, and give up CO2 and get oxygen. These chambers then branch out to many veins that course through the creature, supplying essentials and expelling waste. Its size has increased as a result.

An evolutionary experiment at primitive social bonding have resulted in a big mistake. The Eelish are now addicted to being in eachothers presence. They move in groups up to a hundred. This would be alright and even a bit beneficial if there wasn't a bit of a problem. They get in eachothers way, in fact, they move so close to eachother that they accidentally bite pieces off of eachothers bodies. Some even plain out get suffocated inside their swarms.

Status:EN

Description:An serpentine, aquatic animal that is a meter long. It swims inside the colonies of hivecakes with slithering motions of its muscular body and chews pieces from the said plants through a giant, vertically opening jaw that leads to its three segmented, efficent digestive tract with a stomach and intestines, which leads to an anus. Anus is also connected to a chain of gas bladders it uses to control it buoyancy and give its body its shape. It has 10 black dots on its very front segment , 4 of them larger then the other 6. The smaller six form a hexagon that surrounds a square that is formed from the bigger 4, which surrounds its mouth. It uses these dots to smell the water around and act according to them, approaching or avoiding alike. These dots and everything this animal has as parts are connected to and commanded by a chord of nerves that runs from front to back of the animal that branches out to the rest of the body. Two stripes of thin and short crimson strands course through the animals sides, and function as gills. Derived from these, a system of bloodfilled chambers and musculr valves pump blood through the animals body through thousands of thin veins. It reproduces by external fertilisation of eggs performed by two distinct genders. The fertilised eggs hatch into tiny, neotenic, single segmented juneviles, which reach full size, shape and sexual maturity not too long after.

Punky Amaranth
The Amaranth Blob, the living bottomfeeder fossil that haven't changed a bit through the eons that were the last ten entire turns have experienced a sudden, unexpected evolution spurt.

It has developed three pairs of limp extensions on the sides of its body to harvest nutrients more efficently, but as these flaps are very fragile and constantly interfere with its locomotion, so even though they can slowly regenerate, they are usually in shreds and don't really do good. In fact, they suck.

As a second adaptation, the blob has gained the ability to crawl. Its central bodies tissues have become much more rigid and flexible. It uses these to crawl around, and therefore harvest more soil in shorter amounts of time. This has caused a change in shape, from round one to an oval one.

And the best of its developments so far, the coat of tendrils that once assites its feeding have been repurposed into a fan of red strands that pull oxygen from the water. These long and rigid tendrils resemble the punk hairstyle, and provide the necessary oxygen to utilise the muscles to its full efficency.

Status: LC

Description: A semi-oval proto-animal three centimeters in length. It aimlessly crawls along the sea floor by using its muscular torso and digests any organic debris it can find through its six, fragile and usually damaged flaps. It has a set of long and stiff extensions that line its back, that function as gills. A specialised layer of tissue prevents any nutrient loss. It reproduces by splitting in two when it gets too big.

Habitat: Sea floor.

Environment
On the southern hemisphere of the planet Aqautico, a giant warm saltwater crater lake called The Crater Sea resides.

Surrounding the sea, a verdant forest of Greenplate trees cover the flat ground far as eye can see, but it is totally silent except for the wind as there are no terrestrial animals yet.

Through the east side, four rivers called The Harbringers follow curved, close-by paths to The Crater Sea, coming from a tall mountain range called The Snowtipped Wall. The mountain range is also very close to an active volcano. Along with the four rivers, there is a dry river bed, a remnant of a time when there were five of The Harbringers.

A smaller and much younger freshwater crater lake is also nearby, residing by the north of The Crater Sea. It is connected to the it by a small stream that used to carry toxic, heavy metals from the lake it comes from.

Multicelluar life is abundant and complex. Vast growths of algea and collosal collectives of "eusocial" plants can be seen along the shallow coasts and the deep sea respectively. The algal growths fluctuate a bit too much to be healthy though.

It is also very clearly present on the flat land surrounding The Crater Sea, as a dense and vast forest of long, mushroom-like plants that cover much of the said land.

After much thought, I decided against excluding Kilojoule Proton, as they were once an active player, while 0cra_Troper never was.

We still have four empty spots. New players are welcome.

Vote: Teeth and Bone
The calcite framework is to further develops into more fixed structure forming 'bone' creating skeleton system, it's has large bones running from its tail to top of gills forming curved shaped 'spine' with smaller bones spreading out in pairs creating a semi open cage to house it's organs and digestive system, it has four further bones branching out into it's fins. Above the gills it's 'spine' travels a bit further before forming a casing to protect it's brain and support it's jaw giving it more striking figure. The calcite located into it's jaw now branch down in jagged rows having solidified into 'teeth' that it uses to aid in crunching anything it can bite into.

SS Vote: Cartilage
Connecting between that parts where each bone connects to one another is soft sealed semi liquid that aids it's shock absorption, disc variants of it form in spinal bones and more solid ones push some bones up out of body along top parts of spine to merge in outer layer to form jagged ridges that give spiky protective form.

Ok, you know what? This whole "sex thing" Is not working for us. Honestly, this mechanic Is more trouble than It is worth, most of the time.
ss vote:  facultative parthenogenesis: a new special innovation appeared in the eelish females: the possibility of parthenogenesis when the enviromental conditions are stable enough.
Basically i want the option to skip the sex vote.
Now, for my normal vote:
Improved nervous system: the primitive brain of the eelish becomes better at recognizing and managing the attraction caused by pheromones. They still travel in large schools, but now they can keep an healthier distance from each other.
Gototoe, we need a way to protect ourself. We could evolve a venom bonding protein in our blood and trasport the protein-toxin complex in one of our chambers, so It can be safely expelled.
Otherwise we could limit our Interactions with the pancakes and start preying on the animals below us. We could become the omnivorous locusts of the Sea, descending on the seafloor to eat everything we can catch during the day and rising up again during the night to feed on food that completely surrounds us.

Reactive Defence
Now that quick communication is possible, it appears that pancakes emit a strange new signal when their cells are damaged, one that is being referred to as "pain". When a pancake feels pain, it and its neighbour pans flex their bonding tendrils, hopefully pulling their sibling away from the source of discomfort. At the same time, any nearby stranglers flex their tendrils towards the injured pancake hopefully to capture the offending parasite.

SS Vote: Budding
Our plans have been inefficiently splitting for eons. Now, the parent stays the same shape, and instead forms child-clones on its outer perimeter, that grow rapidly from the support of their parent.

Vote:  An eucoelom.  A fluid filled sack surrounding the esophagus and intestines such that they (the esophagus and intestines) are suspended within the sack by thin (but not too thin) strips of connective tissue both above and below them.  The eucoelom allows whatever is on the inside to grow separately from whatever is on the outside and also acts as a kind of hydroskeleton, providing the animal with a certain amount of support.

SS Vote:  Myomeres.  Myomeres, I tell you!  Banks of muscle tissue surrounding the eucoelom.  These are made from muscles and connective tissue arranged in a zigzag pattern with an appearance similar to a “v” or “w”.  These are used for locomotion.
