Main vote has been updated.

Edit:  Main vote has been updated again.  Hopefully, this should be the last update before the turn.  Other Pasta Vēlōcis members may want to review the changes and see if they disagree with anything.

Edit2:  Ok, this should be the last change to the main vote before the turn.  Team members may want to go over the changes again.  I’ve also color-coded the new/changed sections and their associated edit notes.

Edit3:  Forgot to make proper edit notes for this post...

Team Pasta Vēlōcis

Vote:  The digestive canal lengthens with a new, straight, section of the canal appearing between the mouth and the old part of the canal, while at the same time the entire canal becomes encased in muscle.  The new section of the canal stretches about half the length of the animal, with the animal increasing in length to compensate.  Unlike the old part, the new part of the canal is lined with simple connective tissue instead of digestive tissue.  The new part of the canal is divided into to parts.  The rear part simply serves to move mucus and food to the old part of the canal for digestion.  The forward part is separated from the rear part by a pair of slits (called pharyngeal slits), one on either side of the animal, just behind the external gills. Another pair of pharyngeal slits also exists just in front of the external gillsAlso, (if they are not already like this) the gills are separated into two bands, one on either side of the body, by thin strips on the top and bottom of the animal.  Additionally, the animal has a new organ, a semi-stiff rod-like structure (called the endostyle) that produces mucus and is covered in cilia and contained within the front portion of the canal with a short bridge of tissue connecting it to the bottom of the canal in the part of the canal where the new slits are.  This connection is near the rear of the organ.  Operation is as follows:  1) The animal uses the muscles surrounding the front most section of the canal (called the pharynx) to continuously suck water in through the mouth and expel it through the pharyngeal slits in front of and in back of the gills. 2) As the water passes over the central endostyle, food particle in the water are trapped in the mucus which the cilia then transports to the middle portion of the canal. 3) The middle portion of the canal (called the esophagus -the animal has no true stomach- ) simply serves to transport the mucus and food particles to the old part of the canal via peristaltic action. 4) The old part of the canal (called the intestine) serves to digest the food particles as the mucus is transported through it by peristaltic action, with any undigested matter being excreted through the anus.

Ok, so;

A new, shallowing tube between the old digestive tube and the mouth that transports nutrient filled mucus produced by a cartilage rod covered with cilia called endostyle, which resides inside the throat. The suction is provided by the mouth, the shallowing tube and the water is expelled by slits connected to the junction of the middle and first parts. The mucus then is transported to the middle section, then to the intestines, where it is digested. The leaftover spool is then excreted through the anus.

Correct?

This is very confusing.

Ok, so;

A new, shallowing tube between the old digestive tube and the mouth that transports nutrient filled mucus produced by a cartilage 'tounge' covered with cilia called endostyle. The suction is provided by the mouth and the shallowing tube and two pairs of slits just in front and back of the gill mane expel the water out.

Correct?

Almost.  The tube from mouth to anus is divided into three parts.

From front to back, these are:

  • The pharynx (which occupies the first quarter of the animal)
  • The esophagus (which occupies the second quarter)
  • The intestine (which occupies the remaining half)

The gills and pharyngeal slits are located at the junction of the pharynx and the esophagus. The endostyle occupies the pharynx and is connected near it’s aft end to the floor of the pharynx between the gills.

Feeding/respiration is as follows:

  • Suction is produced by the pharynx with water being sucked in the mouth, passing over the endostyle, and out through the pharyngeal slits.
  • As the water passes over the endostyle, single celled organisms are caught in the mucus and the cilia on the endostyle then moves this mucus (with the microorganisms trapped inside) towards the esophagus.
  • The esophagus then moves the microorganism-bearing mucus aft to the intestine via peristaltic action.
  • Once the mucus reaches the intestine, it continues to move via peristaltic action while the microorganisms are digested by the intestine and their constituent molecules are absorbed as nutrients.
  • Finally, any undigested matter is expelled through the anus.

The endostyle will later evolve to become the thyroid.

Hope that helps!

Updated the summary of Curious Cats vote.

It's alright, but also very convoluted. Please try to ask with more generalised ways.

Hi, i would love to fill the spot for the fifth and final team with another blob descendant, i love the fact that this game has already gone much further than most evolution games here. I understand that the votes for round 9 are already locked, so i will enter the scene next turn, but i have just 1 question:
Can i branch out from any living species or do i have to split from the most recently evolved ones?
As for my name i would like to go with Team Eraclito.

You can either branch out, or "assume control" of any "NPC's". You can start with any extant clade you want.

Also, you can vote now, if you wish. The votes are not locked.

Team Eraclito
Leonardo: A swim bladder derived from the end of the digestive tube.
SS vote: Two protrusions with calcite spikes to be able to chew at the aquatic pancakes.

Carrying this foward.

If i am still allowed to cast a vote then:
Ancestor: pooping blish
Team Eraclito: A primitive swim bladder, derived from the end of the digestive tract. The primitive digestive tract is now more specialized, with an engorged rear end that fills with gases produced by the digestive process. The blish can regulate its bouyancy by releasing gas with its sphincter.
Sex vote: Two fleshy protusions emerge from the creature mouth, covered in small calcite spikes. These spiny "tongues" are designed to more efficiently graze the flat pancake mats.

I assume that a digestive system automatically comes with a sphincter. If this it is not true than creating a sphincter from my rear musculature becomes my main vote and the swim bladder becomes my sex vote.

Pooping blish, which will be both yours and the Pasta Vēlōcis' ancestor, doesn't has the complex digestive system right now, and you won't get it as that will develop in their separate lineage, not yours. But you do have the primitive digestive tube, with an anus, so yes, it is still possible.
