¿has inherited the position of abbot?
« on: December 18, 2020, 01:56:56 am »

Hello

I'm new to the game, I got this notification in fortress mode:

Quote
`Desiigner', being the rightful heir, has inherited the position of abbot of The Stern Doctrine.

I couldn't find information on that kind of event in the wiki, could someone help me understand what this means?

Thanks.

Haven't seen that one before, but it looks like there's an organized religion called The Stern Doctrine, and, for some reason, this religion has a hereditary appointment to the position of abbot. Normally inheriting positions happens to nobility in civs.

It could also be a bug...

Yeah, seems to be some kind of bug in that occassionally it tells you this and the dwarf in question isn't part of your fortress, even as a visitor (or as a spy).

Hereditary religious positions as a thing is likely working as intended though.

An abbot is the head of a monastic order, which resides in a monastery.  That’s all there is to it.

Except when the game notifies you of their succession plan involving no-one in your fortress. So, no, that's not all there is to it.

Desiigner did reside in my fortress (it fell to a werechameleon already).
After the notification he wasn't a noble (like a baron or mayor) however his job title became 'abbot'.
Btw, he wasn't into any religion lol.

Look up the groups he was a member of.  One of them should have been a monastic order.  The situation with him becoming an ‘abbot’ is basically the same as one of your dwarves claiming the title of baron, etc. of some other fortress.  Which leads me to a question:

Did he show up in the list of fortress nobles?  Did he require or demand anything?  Did he mandate anything?

I checked back then, one of Desiigner's parents was the monk abbot, maybe my dwarf belonged too (before migrating), however he had no religious interests.
He wasn't in the 'n' nobles list.

I can't check more in detail, I deleted the world to save space and create more.
