Pure Irony
« on: December 11, 2020, 10:28:06 am »

I'm making a fortress whose main industry is Fishing.
I'm in my first year, scouting out how deep the caverns are. I skip the first cavern, and literally 30 Z-Levels away from the bottom, I find Cavern Layer 2. Since the location is surrounded on all but one side by water, I decide to make an outpost, and accept two monster hunters.

And later, I found a group of hostile cave fish people.
On a single mushroom tree, which was surrounded by water.
Covered with blood.
And with the corpse of a troll at the top.

I have absolutely no idea what happened, there is literally no way for the troll to get over to the tree directly, and the nearest ground tile is a good 50 tiles away.

It might have climbed up the cavern wall, across the roof, then lost it's grip, falling to its death on top of a surprised family of poor fish people who knew no other life beyond their mushroom tree.

Weird as it sounds, completely possible.

Or perhaps it climbed up the mushroom tree and died, as King of the glorious hill?

No wonder they're hostile, they were minding their own business when a troll arrived, had a nosebleed, ran around bleeding on everything and screaming, and then collapsed and died. They don't want ANYthing to do with anyone else seeng as first contact was so traumatic.

Is the blood troll blood? Fish person blood? Or something else? Dorf blood?
If you aren't using a tileset (I can see you are) then troll blood is bright blue on the screen, from memory. So seeing as you're dealing with red blood, I'm wondering if the blood isn't troll blood but fish person blood, and perhaps they're pretty lucky to be alive after an epic battle?

That looks like the Phoebus tileset, and it looks like there's some cyan troll blood splashed around in the second image.

Trollparts are interdimensional, you find them everywhere, on trees, in the underground river, in the armory

They just used the DAS as a teleporter. What, didn't know that smashed entities are teleported to entirely different dimensions?

On the topic of pure irony, I have a necromancer butcher (with five dwarf kills) who is unhappy because they are separated from family.

...

Think about that.

Family is just his euphemism for the zombies he likes to raise up.

He's a family man; it's just his methods for growing his family are a bit unorthodox

Sounds like the situation of Eric the Red. And his father, who was also exiled for "killings"....
"He keeps killing people, let's just send him further away" doesn't mean he won't miss the people who he left behind.
