How to pierce aquifers - with no pumps.
« on: February 28, 2008, 06:27:00 pm »

The trick only can work with single level aquifers. Dig a square channel that's at least 4 larger than the intended aquifer hole. so, to make a 2x2 staircase down thru the aquifer, the 1-wide square needs to be 6x6, leaving a 4x4 block of earth in the middle.

Using a staircase adjacent to the channel, make it 2 z-levels high or more, and undermine the soil. Then create a pond under the soil block that's also 4x4, then drop in the soil block. (might also want to leave somewhere for the water to go, it'll be a mess. like another hole into the aquifer.)

After the wet mess clears, you can in fact dig through the dropped soil at your leisure.

yeah, it's been posted. I think the thread is titled 'Using cave-ins to breach aquifiers' or somesuch. it can be used to breach more aquifier levels, as long as you have enough levels above it.
