Everyone: Have you played Secret Hitler, Mafia (incl. Werewolf variants and Town of Salem), or any other such game in the social deception genre before?

I myself haven't played Secret Hitler before, but I have a bunch of experience with Mafia.

Uh? Why not a better question like what was the card I threw away?  Which was liberal/ Corporate of Taxation.

 "Why did you discarded a liberal card?" I will answer that right here. I discarded a liberal card in favor of a fascist card to see what my Chancellor would pick. He chose a liberal card. So he might be a liberal.

I am aware that my strategy has flaws but that's the best thing I could've come up with.

Because that was the question you implicitly offered to answer, but didn't. There's little reason for a liberal to be coy. It does look like uncertainty and actual coyness, though, so I'll give this advice: don't ask for permission to be helpful.

I'd have discarded the liberal card as well, as forcing the chancellor to less choice would mean less information for the liberal team.

Unlike Mafia, the fascists don't have a secret chat and thus a new player can't be coached. Thus my read on you is that you made an honest attempt to gain information, which is a good look.

Specifically, this is what I consider a good look: strategizing and considering what's actually important: information.

As far as i can tell that statement is false. There is nothing explicitly stating that they are not allowed to pm their team members. Additionally while the read is probably sound enough for the chancellor, the president can lie about their cards, or the reason for picking which was discarded.

Additionally, i would like to point out that all fascists start out knowing their teammates. this is important, because they might vouch for one another in the face of a hostile party.

also, we should be careful who we let have the president role, since it is the only way for players to be eliminated. All it takes is two executions (assuming a full party of 10, which this is unfortunately not) to turn the voting into a potentially constant stalemate, which will almost always end in favor of the fascists by virtue of their larger selection of policies.
