Isidro, watching the events unfold between Hortensia and, well, everyone, had the distinct look of a man reconsidering every decision in his life that led to the current state of affairs. When he realized he was standing and staring, he shook his head and grumbled something impolite-sounding under his breath before climbing into one of his wagons. A lamp lit inside it shortly thereafter; presumably the man had found something to occupy his time.

The merchant's timing proved to be fortunate. Almost as soon as the telltale light broke free from the confines of the wagon, a peal of thunder ripped forth overhead. The sound was loud enough to startle the horses, an issue that a gaggle of equally-alarmed merchant hirelings scurried to address. "What in the seven hells was that?" an older man grumbled, one recognizable as a wagonwright Isidro kept on to ensure everything was kept in top shape. "It was damn near clear an hour ago." Yet, storm clouds seemed to be rolling in, and with them, rain began to fall.

Hortensia was just this close to her breaking point— having to sleep in a tent, making herself look like a fool just because some commoners didn't know how to keep to themselves, knowing that they weren't even close to their destination... It was all starting to cave in, it was all making her want to throw something. At someone.

Yet all of that rage turned into sheer shock and panic the second she heard the sound of thunder. Hortensia turned up her nose and acted as if she didn't just jump out of her skin— probably just some stupid commoner blowing something up with something or other, not important, not important... but when she saw storm clouds come in and rain start to fall, horror struck her across the face.

Almost immediately, Hortensia curled up closer inside of the wagon— if she stepped one foot out there in her emotionally volatile state, if she even thought about it, her life would be over. Gone. She did her best to occupy herself with literally anything else— Hortensia suddenly found her necklace extremely interesting and fiddled with that while being firmly rooted to her seat in the wagon, trying to feign complete ignorance to the sounds of water accumulating on the top of the wagon.

Naturally, something would've interrupted the pleasant talk Cami had found herself in. Unnaturally, that interruption came in the form of thunder, causing the Borderlander to glance up and see the dark clouds rolling in,

"A storm already?" she wondered aloud, ignoring the first sprinkles of rain that began to fall upon the camp. Instinctively, Camira narrowed her eyes... Not to protect them from the rain, but out of suspicion. Storms didn't tend to roll in that quickly,

"Hey, Sedai" Cami called out, turning back to Lydia, "I don't know a lot about the... What do you folk call it... Magic? Or was it the Power? Whatever it's called, your bound to be more familiar with it. Is it possible for someone like you to whip up a storm like this?"

Thanes let out a grumble as the rain struck. He had just been about to start practicing, his instrument laid out neatly, juggling balls in hand, and now he had to rush. He quickly threw waterproof leather over the instruments before carefully scooping them and their cases up and darting under the covered wagon. Settling down, not even looking to see who else was in there with him, he carefully began cleaning the instruments, mutter to himself.

"Of course it would rain. Forsaken-blasted weather, trying to rot my harp, rust my flute. What next, a fire to destroy them? A shameful gleeman I would be then, and an even worse Hunter to be defeated by such elements."

Of course there was neither the time, manpower or enthusiasm to dig some ditches around the camp for protection, but Andre still took the time to check the terrain around the camp and try to eliminate any hiding spots that could be used to sneak up upon them. At the same time he was also collecting wood for the fires and so was naturally caught off guard by the sudden storm as well.

Thanes would have the clanking of armour as a warning before Andre joined him underneath the covered wagon.

"Blasted Rain! Clear one moment and stormy the next." Even in the dim light the patchwork cloak was unmistakable and so Andre asked, "You must have travelled all over, Gleeman. Have you ever seen weather like this before? Nothing good will come of it, I suspect."

"You sure about working for this Galileo guy? He seems. . . off."
"Well, I'm not aboutta argue with him. If this weather is actually what you think it is. . ."
"Oi, don't say that out loud. You'll bring the Dark One's eye on you at this rate, you will."
"Maybe I will."
"The hell's that mean?"
"Nothing. They're settling down in the designated spot, you go back and send the signal."
The woods nearby rustled faintly beneath the rolling sounds of thunder as one of the men drew away. The other crept closer to a small ridge nearby, a nearly invisible black shape in the sudden dimness of the storm. "Bloody idiot is finally gone. Maybe he'll get himself killed here and then the only prying eyes I'll have to deal with will be hers. . ."

Meanwhile, in the camp. . .

"Well, Shin not returning isn't that unusual. The man is distractible at the best of times, I don't think a bit of rain is a reason to panic over him." Despite his words, Isidro failed to keep the concern out of his voice. The merchant eyed the terrain nearby, nervous eyes attempting to pierce the rain and spot anything of concern in the sparse trees.
"Isidro, he's been gone for hours. Malkieri don't tend to just vanish like that, no matter how 'distractible' they are. We might have a problem on our hands." Though he wasn't formally a captain, Isidro's most experienced guard was one in all but name. A gruff man bearing a fair share of scars and stories, he'd mostly remained reserved toward the newcomers in the caravan to this point.

"Do you think we'll be able to convince the sisters to help?"
The captain snorted. "Maybe if you brew them the finest tea, and lick their feet while you're at it. We need to get ready for trouble. I'll fetch the greenhorns."

"Bandits! They've got us surrounded!"
"Of course. Isidro, we need to decide. Are we standing and fighting, or trying to escape?"

"I don't know! You're the guard, you get me out safe!" The panicked merchant promptly fled inside his wagon.
"Damned penny pinchers. . ."

"Alright, boys, surround 'em! A caravan of this size has gotta have all kinds of loot for us! Just corral 'em and I'll crush them." As if to punctuate the leader's shouting, thunder boomed overhead.

Objective: Defeat Galileo or Escort the caravan to Column 16!

Hortensia let out a loud 'eep' and ducked for cover at the sudden booming of thunder— she hadn't noticed that there was a fight going on at all. She had a whip at her side for self-defense, but her working up the backbone to get out of the wagon and fight (especially in the rain) was going to be... difficult for the haughty noblewoman. And just about everyone around her.

"Tch, wonderful. Get the the boss and noble out of here, we'll handle these bandits" Cami stated as she drew her blade, immediately focusing on the closest bandit to her and advancing towards them. The forest would give her some maneuverability, but she had to avoid getting swarmed. This wasn't a sparring match.

No, this was a proper fight. One where death was a guarantee if she slipped up.

Cami moves to C5 and activates Leaf on the Wind

The swordsmen watch the mercenaries and the women backing them with a mixture of apprasial and nervousness, clearly unnerved by the potential threat the Aes Sedai posed.

Enemy Phase begins!

"Don't just stand there! Gut them!" The man's voice rang out unnaturally loud, and it was punctuated with another boom of thunder, as if on cue. This prompt was enough to push the bandits out of their reluctance, the first group targeting Camira due to her defensive (and theoretically less threatening) posture.

Swordsman A moves to C6 and attacks Camira!
Quote from: Swordsman A vs Camira
Swordsman A attacks!
Hit: 88 - 22 - 20 = 46
Roll: 89, miss!

Camira counters!
Hit: 99 - 17 = 82
Roll: 6, hit!
Damage: 14 - 5 = 9 / 2 = 4

Camira attacks again!
Hit: 82
Roll: 12, hit!
Damage: 4

This proves to be a mistake, the swordsman taking two swift cuts for his trouble.

The archers opt to assist, not wanting to place themselves in too easy reach for the rest of the group.

Archer A moves to B7 and attacks Camira!
Quote from: Archer A vs Camira
Archer A attacks!
Hit: 102 - 22 - 20 = 60
Roll: 51, hit!
Damage: 13 - 3 = 10

Camira cannot counter!

Archer B moves to C8 and attacks Camira!
Quote from: Archer B vs Camira
Archer B attacks!
Hit: 102 - 37 - 20 = 45
Roll: 4, hit!
Damage: 13 - 3 = 10

Camira cannot counter!

They have more success than their bladed comrade, each shot scoring a deep line in Camira's side.

Some of the mounted bandits move up, menacing Hortensia but not quite in range to strike the noblewoman. They eye her fine noble clothing, clearly thinking she's an easy target.

Cavalier C to G5
Cavalier D to G6

Meanwhile, the wagons move up slightly, the guard captain having evidently chosen motion.
The Caravan appears at E1, F1, and F2!

Player Phase begins!

Caravans may be moved during the Player Phase. They can move up to 3 spaces, but must always move over Road tiles.

Alvienne to E-2 and Slow (with Conjurer Hit and Damage) Outrider C once Hortensia moves.

Apparently having satisfied herself with her observations of the bandits--and her observation of the storm above--Alvienne shared a quick glance with Lydia.  After a moment, the Blue sister gave the White a nod.

"I'd best see to the girl, then, Sister.   Unfortunate as the circumstances are, this seems as fine an opportunity as any.  And I'm sure the others could benefit more from your skill than whatever advice I could offer, cheering for them as that might be."

She gave a casual shrug, heading back to the caravan.  As she went, her eyes drifted to the path along the cliffs and the horsemen racing along it, a careful weave of the power slipping from her and disrupting the ground before them, almost invisibly to the eyes in the shadow of the storm--but more than enough to risk injury to an incautious horse, should it continue heedless onwards.  Satisfied with her work, she hopped into the wagon alongside a no-doubt startled Hortensia, giving her a cheerful smile.

"Ah, there you are!  Waiting out the storm and battle in the comfort of the wagon?  Delightful- I think I'll join you, in that case.  Since I can't imagine you feel up for involving yourself in that mess--particularly not when the common guards can protect you better than you can yourself!--and I certainly don't either, perhaps we could chat and bond a little, hm?  I was hoping to get your take on a few rather scandalous pieces of gossip about the old Calderon family~"
