Keldor: Don't think I haven't dreamed that device up. I just Can't get it to move... Someday...

LSTAR: the theory is that the oil, when applied would be scraped off, taking the accumulated detritus with it.

Personaly I just filled the hallway, (between the apartment and main fort) with a channel, ramp on either side and filled up with 3/7 water...

Meh, my mayor is covered in vomit, blood, and mud 24/7 yet he's never had a trader or diplomat not leave ecstatic.

I remember reading in another topic like this (Dwarf-Clean-o-matic) That mist is enough to wash the dwarfs off.  I've never really checked a dirty dwarf that ate in my dining room with the waterfall at the front of it.

Place the hatch one level lower, and put a floor grate where the hatch is now.  That'll solve your misplaced baby issue.

LONG time stalker, first time poster.

Mist does nothing to clean your dwarves. I poured a waterfall down the core of my central stairwell. The mist filled the entire area (4x4 for about 10 levels) and did nothing at all to clean my dwarves (but slaughtered my FPS). I left it to run for quite a while to no effect.

Granted: I have had no luck cleaning them what-so-ever, even when I removed the hatch covers from the tops of the stairs themselves and let the water pour down the stairs.

Next plan: swimming pool.

Are you sure they weren't ecstatic to be leaving?

You'd think handing out the crossbows to brain damaged dwarfs would be a bad idea but it isn't

This is interesting...

I think I'll try my hand at actually building a dwarven washing machine. I would like to have an impression of circular blades moving though, and was thinking of using a set of interconnected pressure plates to simulate the illusion of movement.

But I don't think it's possible to link pressure plates to pressure plates... hmm...

Regardless, OP: You mentioned you wanted ideas of dwarf washers? Look in my sig.

hmm... interesting.

Now here's a question to all you dwarf washers... anyone dump soap in yet? I still haven't been able to make any. I have no spare wood...

Okay, I built a nice undergound lake somewhat like this:

code:

Cross section:
_____                      ______     <-top level access
    \____            ____/           <-"washing level" depth 3/7
         \__________/                <-"deep end" depth 7/7

I used a set of pressure plates and gates on the washing level to smooth it's depth out at around 3. on the "beach" I set meeting areas which are used extensively.

NO EFFECT

actually worse, since I encouraged my fort to gather in an area with perma-mud

Perhaps it is necessary for the water to be in motion?

You don't. A proper Dwarf ought to be covered in blood et al. It's simply not natural for a Dwarf to be clean. What'll come next, pine scented air fresheners in the mountainhomes? You know how we call them folks that are bothered by blood stains and alike? The tree hugging hippies.
Blood for the blood God, some spilled some smeared, this old dwarf says.

Othob Rithol: Did you check where the stains were? Maybe the bottom parts that will incidentally be covered with water constantly have no other stains, but the top that doesn't enter water is still filthy.

You are dead on Umiman
The remaining mess is restricted to : Mouth, hands and fingers, and in one case eyes - mud smear on the right eye - ouch!

Also, mud smears on the feet, but that is explainable, since the floor is muddy.

I think I will reset the pressure plates to accept level 4 see if that has anymore effect. That'll also give me the swimming boost mentioned earlier .
