Behrens Semi-Automatic 'Valturia' Pistol
As Behrens Jr. himself said, we pride ourselves on craftsmanship. We've made a few Mauser C96 pistols under license, but we can do better. The parts are milled from scratch by our company, the barrel carefully grooved to give the bullets a spin, and the ammo cartridge placed in the handle for reloading. A simple press on a switch near the top will cause the ammo to unlock, dropping it to allow a new cartridge to load into place. The handle designed to be ergonomic, and the outer casing of the gun sleek and slim to not catch when concealed while remaining stylish.

I have a couple questions before we're ready to roll on this: First, you said cartridges are placed in the handle, and unlocked by a switch near the top of the gun. I believe you mean detachable box magazines are placed in the handle, and the magazine release in near the top of the handle so it can be pressed with the user's thumb. You also did not specify a method of operation. Logical choices might be short recoil, like the C96 in which the bolt emerges from the back of the gun, or like the C93 and Luger in which the bolt moves back and is operated by an arm which can be seen lifting above the gun. Or alternatively, simple blowback, which is as implied by the name, the most simple way of doing things.

If you didn't mean a detachable box magazine, a magazine loaded from a stripper clip like the C96 might be logical. This is simpler to design.

Alternatively, you might mean a very modern-looking gun similar to the Model 1911, in which the slide fits around the whole barrel, giving it more mass while staying compact, although mass is moved to the front of the gun. This is of course, more difficult.

Given the description, I'd reckon the last one in that set would be more what is being aimed for.

Heavily tapered 15 cm barrel. Intricate but very efficient and reliable toggle-lock mechanism. V-notch sights. Sharply angled brass grip, which contains an internal magazine that can be loaded with 8 round stripper clips.

The most notable feature is it's folding grip. Undo a latch, and the entire grip and folds forward and sits flat under the barrel for easy concealment. Press a button, then a spring unfolds the grip and cocks the action.

Behrens Semi-Automatic 'Valturia' Pistol
As Behrens Jr. himself said, we pride ourselves on craftsmanship. We've made a few Mauser C96 pistols under license, but we can do better. The parts are milled from scratch by our company, the barrel carefully grooved to give the bullets a spin, and the seven-ammo cartridge placed in the handle for reloading. A simple press on a switch near the top will cause the ammo cartridge to unlock, dropping it to allow a new cartridge to load into place. The handle designed to be ergonomic, and the outer casing of the gun sleek and slim to not catch when concealed while remaining stylish.

Recoil Operation is used, and our handmade milling allows innovation in the form of a slide over the 90 mm barrel. This means that it does not stick out like some designs, meaning concealing it is much easier. Our craftsmanship renders our products quite reliable and hardy, as the products we make often last a long time. So long as you keep them oiled and cleaned, they will serve you well. By industry standards, the Behrens Valturia Pistol falls under the beginning of the Compact classification and uses the 8mm Behrens cartridge. Each comes etched with a signature from the finishing craftsman and numbers telling the year it was made in as well if it's the 1st or the 1000th that craftsman has done, so not only do you know it's Behrens Quality, but the government can track them.

Roll: 7
Difficulty: -2

Ditching the antiquated Mauser style of pistols, you set out to create a cutting-edge design with the most advanced features, in the outwardly simple and sleek style of Colt's automatic pistols. Removable box magazines are a particular challenge: unlike internal magazines, they must be cheap enough to include multiple with the gun, and they must be durable enough to be knocked around while outside the gun. The recoil operation with a slide over the barrel uses relatively few moving parts, but it's a challenge to balance precisely- in fact, partially because of its simplicity. This is additionally challenging due to the insistence on keeping the gun compact; the easiest way to slow the action is to make the slide longer and heavier. After a couple attempts, the successful design made some compromise against the compactness by having two recoil springs which extend past the handle/magazine, creating a "hip" or wider portion above the grip for the length of the gun, and the slide extends further behind the handle than Colt's design.

Behrens Semi-Automatic 'Valturia' Pistol: This is a pistol chambered in 8mm Behrens. It loads from detachable 8-round box magazines which are inserted to the bottom of the handle, and operates with a slide recoil system, in which the barrel lowers under the slide on two pins after traveling backwards a short distance. The slide extends behind the grip, and it is returned by two recoil springs which create a hip on other side of the gun along its length above the grip. Shells are ejected upwards to the right. The gun has a 90mm barrel and is a little more than twice that length overall, about 40mm of which is behind the grip. It features a thumb magazine release and notch sights on top of the slide, and a safety lever operated with the off hand. Every piece is milled and nicely finished in a mirror-smooth silver color, except patterned wooden grip plates. Costs 24 credits per batch.

You have spend 20 credits, 40 credits remain.

Sounds good. I don't think we need to do a revision.

Very nice. Bit costly, but a revision to see about only using 1 spring could see an improvement in cost. Granted, quality work costs, though it is still a very nice first gun. The first and third contracts are looking up.

If we win both contracts, but can only fulfill one, what happens to the other? I guess someone could license the RP contract to one of the other companies, but does that improve their design team?

8-10 Behrens
8-10 Behrens is a modification to our standard 8mm Behrens. The most visually obvious difference is the spitzer head and boat tail, which gives it much better energy retention than most similar pistol cartridges. This when combined with a notably hotter powder load let's the 8-10 excel at ranges most pistol caliber rounds fall off at. It is highly inadvisable to try to use 8-10 Behrens in a weapon designed for 8mm Behrens.

Yeah no that actually turned out wonderfully. A little too expensive, but 24 credits for a nice, snazzy pistol with good firepower though? Worth every credit.

Another thing, a revision would cost 20 credits, but our weapon costs 24 credits, and we have 40 credits. If we do a revision, how can we produce a batch without a loan?

As I have received a bit of feedback, I present the Behrens Logo going into the future. It's a bit simple and plain, but simple is sometimes best.

Well as we learned on Discord, contracts pay for themselves basically, so we can totally get this and pay for a full batch of pistols.

Yes, you don't need to have money set aside for batches, you simply receive profits. Think of it as being paid upfront.

As soon as you decide whether you want to do anything else this turn, the bidding can begin. Since the only currently proposed plan, a new ammunition, wouldn't affect your bidding options for this turn, you may want to start discussing bid prices now.

If we can get one of our rivals to produce a limited run of our pistols at a price of 32 credits for the officers, or else sell the rights we could get a second production line up and running next turn and start really raking in cash. As licences production doesn't give them experience as well, we can use it to keep ourselves on top of the market too.

For number 3, I say 28 credits for the reliability and form. It's compact, right past sub-compact so griping it is easy. One could put it in a pocket or in a belt. Storing in a jacket holster is also easy since the entire thing doesn't have that silly Broomhandle form. And the power behind it is good. It's not going to break on you either, and can be painted. The sights are also a good for aiming at farther targets.

The Officer Pistol(Number 1) we bid at the standard 30. Very shiny, well made, good shape for a well-made holster. You know we're known for quality with clocks, but this first design also shows our ability with Firearms. It can also be used to clock someone over the head if you need to knock them out without killing them. It's power isn't going to be up there with a full-sized gun, but the reliability and form is very cutting edge. Just look at those silly Broomhandles, people look ridiculous with them, the ammo sticking out and all.
