I'd avoid oculus like the plague at this point strictly on facebook's business practices, they are doing somewhat noticable damage to the vr arcades in my area by buying out popular titles like beat sabre and shutting down liscensing. Beat sabre was one of if not the most popular title at the arcade and now they lost it.

I know vr arcades are a rather expensive way to experiance vr, but they serve as a great way to initiate oneself.

Cool. I'll look into grabbing a VR accessory then when I put my new rig together. What headset are you using?

And do you think a current or last generation Zen2 or 3 cpu + probably a 2070'ish equivalent graphics card would have enough power to pull it off in VR? I'm kinda assuming it would be a bit of overkill to tell you the truth, but I've got a pretty open budget for my new box.

Im using a rift s. That setup would be adequate for VR but I'd recommend waiting another month or two because we are still mid release cycle on new graphics cards and at around the $500 range there will be good options coming very shortly. I'm using a 2070 right now, and it still leaves me wanting more power in other games with VR support that demand more. Facebook isnt demanding I connect a facebook account for my rift s YET but in a few years it will be. I will probably switch headsets around that time.

That's weird. When I got the notification about that, a few days ago when opening the Oculus software, it gave me a date of January 2021, not 2023. I'm still pissed about it, since I bought my Rift S long before that rule was announced, and now I can't use the $500-something piece of physical hardware I bought because Facebook, the cancer of the internet, demands I prostitute myself for their endless need for profits at others' expense.

Assuming I don't change headsets - I wonder how much the Index will go down next sale... - I really hope someone creates up some kind of... alternate software to run these headsets. All I have on my Oculus account is a few free utilities and one mediocre game I bought cheap. Everything else is on Steam, so losing access to the Oculus account stuff isn't too bad.

The main thing stopping me from getting a different headset is lack of room space to place the trackers.

PRE-EDIT: Holy shit, I'm looking up the Index, and there are reports of 5+ months waiting for delivery.

They asked me how well I understood theoretical physics. I told them I had a theoretical degree in physics. They said welcome aboard.
... Yes, the hugs are for everyone.  No stabbing, though.  Just hugs.
