ITEMCORPSE and creating new creatures

I'm trying to add a gem creature to the game. Looking at the wiki and here, I see plenty of entries for creatures similar to the colossus that leave behind statues, but I can't find anything on something like this.

The entries I'm wondering about are:
[ITEMCORPSE] and [MATERIAL].

I've been trying
[HAS_RACEGLOSS:GEM]
[ITEMCORPSE:GEM:RUBY:GEM:USE_RACEGLOSS]

and

[HAS_RACEGLOSS:GEM]
[ITEMCORPSE:GEM:NO_SUBTYPE:GEM:USE_RACEGLOSS]
[MATERIAL:RUBY:GEM]

But haven't had any luck -- all that ends up is a creature that drops a "large gem" and not a ruby, like I'm trying to have it do.
Since I obviously am not getting it, what exactly are these values that I'm messing around with, and how can I get this to work?

Still not having any luck. Trying multiple combinations of itemcorpse, has_racegloss, has_matgloss, material, and others and I just can't seem to get the thing to spawn. Looking at that other thread, it seems like I shouldn't be using a subtype, but don't I pretty much have to to get a ruby? Currently all I can get to drop is a rough turquoise with

[ITEMCORPSE:ROUGH:NO_SUBTYPE:GEM_PRECIOUS:NO_MATGLOSS]

and variations on that, including subbing in RUBY for NO_SUBTYPE and NO_MATGLOSS.

I think only wood raceglosses are supported right now.  There's a lot that needs to be done before ITEMCORPSE works for creatures that have materials other than the ones that already occur as creatures.  Gems, cloth and other materials with subtypes won't work yet.
