Turn 0
You should join the Risky Ventures Discord! With superluminal travel now freshly available to the people of Home (or at least, those who can afford it), the reaches of space are now at our fingertips! The ability to go beyond the stars, to explore the vast and wild unknown - the possibilities are virtually endless.
Of course, such wanton exploration is rarely profitable, and will
most certainly be left to those whose eyes are less keenly trained on profit margins. For now, the only viable prospect is the Mun above. A few decades ago a rather half-hearted attempt to set up a Mun Base was launched by a few bright-eyed idealists. Since all the goods between the Mun and Home had to be ferried with horribly inefficient chemical-fuel rockets, it was a decidedly unprofitable venture. Prior to the Scavenger Incident, there had been talk about the Mun Base being scrapped and shut down - but
now we have faster-than-light travel, and the Mun is an
ideal location from which to launch further ventures into the Great Unknown. The only problem is, the base is rather poorly-equipped and in desperate need of resources.
Enter now a fleet of corporations, each and every one eager to fill that need.

New Market Unlocked! - Mun Base: 2 turns round-travel. A close, familiar market from which our merchants may plunder. Very safe to travel.
As the possibility of extra-terrestrial markets opens up, everyone with an economics degree is rushing forward to propose what goods might be best suited for space travel. A number of new goods have appeared of varying price and size.
New Goods Unlocked!- Common Edible Flora: Cheap, reliable, dependable fruits and vegetables. Not very exciting, not terribly profitable, but an extremely stable staple. Some flora is difficult and/or impractical to grow in space, and with appetites what they are some folks will pay extra for that taste of home.
- Low-G Edible Flora: Exotic by Home standards, the flora that flourishes in low-gravity environments is richer and fuller than their standard-gravity cousins. But really, though, the people who buy this stuff mostly just want it for the bragging rights.
- Synthetic Meat: Cheaper, healthier, and more sustainable than the real stuff. They never can get the taste right, but it's close enough. The sheer size of the chemical vats required to produce it makes it tough to churn out off-world, though. "Synthetic Meat - it's good for the environment and O.K. for you!™"
- Authentic Meat: Can't beat the real deal! Seen as an antiquated foodstuff by most of the population, Authentic Meat is mostly a status symbol these days. It's a bit pricier and requires a bit more refrigeration than Synthetic Meat.
- Common Metals: Shiny stuff. Iron, nickle, aluminum, cadmium, tin, zinc - boring, inert, useful metals. With most of the richer veins in Home mined out, it's actually cheaper to ferry it in from off-world!
- Precious Metals: The REALLY shiny stuff. Gold, silver, platinum, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium. While they have their industrial uses, some folks like to use it as an untraceable alternative to the Credit. Price tends to fluctuate a bit.
- Heavy Elements: The stuff lower on the periodic table too dangerous to keep in your trouser pocket. Due to the nature of these goods, transport and storage requires a significant amount of radioactive shielding, making it quite bulky.
- "Passengers": Everyplace needs workers, even the moon! And as it just so happens, these workers are all in a crippling amount of debt and eager to work it off. Since living cargo requires stuff like "a place to sleep" and "air", storing them can take up a lot of space.
- Pharmaceuticals: Drugs - the legal kind. Some stuff is just plain native to Home and can't be found anywhere else in the galaxy. Synthesizing these compounds is expensive, so it's just cheaper to produce it here and ship it off-world.
- Preserved Meteor Detritus: Oddly enough, this is really only found on the Mun. Sometimes this stuff carries rare elements, but the vast majority of the time it's just useful from a research perspective.
- Extra-Terrestrial Stone: The ultra-rich really like to show off, huh? Whether it's for sculptures, stone floors, or a Mun castle, someone is gonna want a load of space rocks. Needless to say, it's a huge pain in the ass to transport.
- Munar Sand: Surprisingly enough, munar sand has a wide variety of uses - both from an industrial standpoint, and as an untainted source of silicates for research purposes. Plus, you can make some awesome sand castles with this stuff.
- He3: While hailed as a compact high-density fuel source for nuclear fusion reactors (such as those found aboard starships), He3 is actually really expensive and requires a considerable amount of cooling and containment to transport. Price is a little unstable as people search for alternative fuel sources.
- Industrial Supplies: Sometimes you just need a forklift on the Mun. A wide variety of supplies needed for any growing Mun Base.
There's currently a three ships leaving the dockyards, and with companies chomping at the bit to buy them up the shipwrights are all-too-eager to auction them off.

Keep in mind that each ship will require a Captain, whose contract can be purchased freely at any time for ^50. Purchasing a Captain is as easy as declaring "I purchase the contract for a Captain [captains name] for ^50". Be aware that only 1 Captain can be aboard a ship and gaining experience at any time, and that Captains are only beholden to
ONE Company at any time and can not be divided into shares like a ship.
So, what happens when several companies buy shares in a ship at auction without having a contract between themselves? Does everyone get a vote proportional to their shares as to where the ship goes/ what cargo it loads, majority deciding? Or does everyone have to agree?
Good question! Unless otherwise agreed upon through contract, any decision regarding a vessel must be 100% unanimous by the shareholders. And yes, this is ripe for abuse. Additionally, unless otherwise stated through contract, Upkeep is divided among all shareholders proportional to their owned shares, with remainder amounts being charged evenly among those who have the least amount of !influence (in the event of even influence, whoever joined latest). If a shareholder chooses not to or is unable to pay their portion of the Upkeep, they forfeit their shares to the remaining shareholders at the end of the turn - split evenly as usual. Note that in order to avoid forfeiting shares, the decision to delay Upkeep must be unanimous among all shareholders.
This last-second rule addendum is to prevent 1 person from shutting down a ship and scrapping the cargo with 1 share. If anyone has a better alternative to this rule, they may petition the FEC for increased regulations using their !influence. The FEC is always eager to increase regulations and is open to suggestions.
Final Note: Don't spend
everything bidding this turn. You'll need to pay for three turns of Upkeep, buy a Captain, buy a supply of Goods to export, and load your ship with Credits to cover any additional expenses while purchasing Goods to Import. Ships will pop up on auction from time to time, so if you miss out now you're not knocked out of the game just yet!
