There is some grumbling when you decline the request for a festival, but people go back to work.


Late Summer, Colonial Year 10
A ship arrives from the Empire. It brings supplies, news, and a whole bunch of immigrants. Apparently they actively volunteered to travel to the colonies, for no other reason than for the chance to colonise the new world in the Emperor's name. You are called upon to greet the new arrivals. What should you tell them?

A: All are welcome here, no matter their circumstances.
B: So long as you're willing to work hard, Bena Janetta is glad to have you.
C: In the Emperor's glorious name, welcome.
D: Well, you're here now. Give it a few months and you'll wish you weren't.

Then there's the question of what to do with them.

A: They can live here, in Nova Emperia.
B: They can join the settlement of Shore Forest.
C: They can strike the earth in the mountains.
D: They can take care of themselves, I don't have time or resources to spend holding their hands.

In other news, apparently the Emperor has announced that he will repay some debts that a previous emperor reneged on- no doubt intending to shore up his support amongst the nobility. You have a sneaking suspicion of where he expects to get the money to pay for this largesse.

This sounds like it increases our future immigration. B would increase productivity, C our favor, and D confuses me. It might lead to bored colonists exploring or fighting.

B: They can join the settlement of Shore Forest.
Striking the earth is tempting, but we already have a mine and I want to work towards a local shipyard. Plus, building tall should agitate the natives less.

You give a short, bland speech that no one really listens to.

Nevertheless, the new colonists are ready and willing to go forth and strike the earth. They are provided with supplies, guides, and a small escort of soldiers, and set off upriver to stake their claim.

Early Autumn, Colonial Year 10
The new settlement has successfully been established. It is located on a hill overlooking the western end of the vast lake, with open land nearby suitable for farming and raising animals. The colonists report no problem in establishing shelter, but they are not sure they will be able to forage enough food to make it through the winter- some of them plan on returning to Nova Emperia during that period (it being too late to start farming).

The colonists have suggested the name "Lake's End" for the settlement, but the decision is ultimately yours.

Lake's End: sounds fine.
[Insert Name Here]: I prefer this name.

In other news, the eager explorers are chomping at the bit to chart the unknown again. This time they intend to make use of the new alliance with the Stone-Axe Tribe to make maps of their territory. They once again request funding for their endeavours.

A: Not this time.
B: Sure.
C: Sure, and take the lucky compass again.

The weather has remained remarkably good, and the harvest being brought in is incredibly bountiful. The people again request a festival.

A: Good idea. Make it a grand spectacle, so that Caelus knows we are truly grateful.
B: We have enough food to spare, so sure.
C: A little bit of good weather is nothing to celebrate.
