Bio: An illegitimate scion to a notable noble family, Alvienne was born in Cairhien in the year NE 966. While children like her are not unusual in her homeland, the specifics certainly were. Most might otherwise be ignored and go their whole lives without once being acknowledged for their noble origin or so much as speaking to their noble parent. But her father was an unusual man in his younger days, with an unusual fondness for her mother, and so took both into his household when he learned of the result of their affair. Though the two never married--the difference in rank made that entirely unsuitable--the two remained quite close, and Alvienne was privy to the education and treatment of a noble herself, albeit one never officially and openly acknowledged and who was largely kept out of the way. So things continued even after her father found a suitable spouse and produced a legitimate heir, for the family had come to dote on the young girl, playful and sweet as she was--a refreshing thing, for those used to the manipulation of Daes Dae'mar--and charming and dutiful as she showed all signs of becoming.
Of course, not all things can last. The Aiel War saw her, like so many others noble and commoner alike, forced to flee her home in the wake of the invasion while her father and others rallied to the countryside to continue the defense. As events transpired during their flight, their band found themselves the target of an attack, one which left Alvienne and her mother gravely wounded--and which resulted in Alvienne finally manifesting her spark. It was not until after the end of the war, when a certain peace settled over the westlands once more and her family was recovering and reestablishing itself, that her power was recognized and she was sent to the White Tower for training.
Despite appearing thoroughly average in the Power, by the standards of the Aes Sedai, she proved a competent enough student. When she wasn't directing her energies towards games, her patience and diligence made her a surprisingly adept student, and her easy charm made her a particular favorite of many of her teachers and peers. While never expected to amount to much, these traits might explain her quick graduation through her training--eleven years in total from her arrival and initiation as a novice, to accepted, to taking the shawl. Perhaps the oddest thing about her time there, beyond the speed of her training, was her choice of Ajah, for she was by all accounts an ideal member of the Grey. Indeed, others in that group had spent a bit of effort her for when she would join, and she was and is happy enough to count several prominent members and then-future members amongst her friends. But when the time ultimately came, she chose the Blue.
According to her, as she'll happily explain, the reason for doing so ultimately came down to being able to travel a bit more freely. Whether that's a joke or not isn't entirely clear, though most of her peers seem to think it in character.
