The Philospher
« on: March 04, 2008, 07:04:00 pm »

So while we all know he is a harmless and relatively useless noble, I just so happened to notice today in my Philospher's profile that he...regards intellectual exercises as a waste of energy.

So what the heck does he do all day??  Besides drink, I mean!

I noticed before I had a meeting area that my philosopher would stand at the very highest point of my map when he wasn't doing anything.

My las philosopher spent his time collecting idols and littering his living quarters/sculpture garden with them.
After living in the fortress for about a year he had collected every single one on the map and decorated every available square in his cabin and yard with them.
Useless yob.

you mean he doesn't coalesce the vapors of dwarven existence into a viable and meaningful comprehension?

Couldn't resist.  I'm guessing that joke has been done more times than fortress-killing flooding accidents.

An "inside" door means that the door is internal to the room, IE, the room's boundaries don't stop at the door.  So the hallway is part of his room.  You probably didn't want to do that, oops!

He climbs to the very top of the map you say? Like a yogi on the mountain?

Yeah. Before I gave him a room or designated a meeting area, that's what he'd do. Stand on top of the very highest point of my fortress.

doh!  I set EVERYONE'S door to be "inside"!

Not everyone else is collecting at quite the rate he is, except for the tax collector, who has quite the impressive collection of green glass objects.

That's not a contradiction, lots of real world philosophers and mystics have come to similar conclusions! And I'd think a dwarf philosopher would be even more inclined to arrive at that kind of practically minded philosophy: "I think, therefore I've been wasting time when I should have been working".    :p
