Gah. Engage negotiation mode. Figure out how much it cost to rescue us, how much they think this is worth, how much assistant deputies get for solving robo-murders, and what Uncle thinks of the Jacanthium and ooze.

Ask what uncle thinks of the loot. I think the ooze might be the best thing to hold out for, as it’s not that interesting to the robots and could tell us more about void beasts.

You are offered a counter-proposal.

Keep the loot.  All of it.  You are going to be drafted for the counterattack once the demons break out sometime in the future.

Could we try offering them everything but the ooze?

If we give it to them will they at least share what they find out about it?

"Oh.  Yeah, I think we could manage that.  Where do you want the letters sent to?"

Uncle takes over that bit, talking about publication and what not.  That bit of the discussion spirals off elsewhere.

So you're going to hand over all the stuff?

Unless someone else has any other ideas for negotiations I say we just give them the stuff.

I dunno being drafted doesn't sound that bad. We wanted to fight demons anyway, we just didn't have enough warbots to make it stick.

Offer a middle path between giving them everything and drafting: we give them some of the loot and work on the counterattack as specialists and military consultants, not front line conscripts.

If that doesn’t work… I don’t really mind. We have no business going back there, but a demon campaign sounds pretty fun. Would like to learn more about the void ooze either way.

The robot looks at you and sort of winces.

"This isn't a personal matter.  This is organized.  I don't really have time to haul you up so you can negotiate your decision with the people running this show."

(overall things seem to be in favor of handing the stuff over.)

You do hand the loot over, in the end.  Maybe the robots bamboozled you, but yeah, this really isn't the time, as much as you need money.  Hand the loot over, come up out of the pit, and return, semi-triumphantly, to your hotel room with Uncle.

At that point Alice opens up and says..

"Don't worry.  I got loot of my own.  There were monsters in there who weren't demons, and they didn't take what I was able to dig out of the walls while guarding them."

Gained 2x Upgrades worth of money.  You now have 11 upgrades worth of cash.

The investigation is long since over, unfortunately.  There was a battle of some sort, and some arrests, but nobody has the direct skinny, they were too busy trying to retrieve a couple of people who fell down an underground hole.

Do you have any other priorities while you are in Aethrem?  Or is it time to leave?

We've been underground so long that there might be new interesting things to look at, so let us go exploring again.

+1

Are there any interesting shrines or temples in robot Antarctica?

We've been underground so long that there might be new interesting things to look at, so let us go exploring again.

..It's been about two weeks.

That was long enough for the exciting confrontations with the robotic criminals.  And you've managed to miss the annual Power Gear festival, which seems to consist of robots with heavy-duty arms throwing ridiculously large, heavy objects to each other.  The one that fails the catch loses.

But not long enough to really change Aethrem in any significant manner.

Are there any interesting shrines or temples in robot Antarctica?

"Shrines?"  Alice asks.

.."Well, sort of.  We didn't really come with any gods built in, and the people here.. well, they had pretty strong opinions about not worshipping creatures from Beyond the Void.  The Experimental Theologicians have reached the point where it takes about a two-year course, at minimum, to be able to understand one of their lectures or discussions.

So for among those of us who are plain simple robots, Fricassa is popular.  That's one of the many dwarven gods of mining, but Fricassa covers mining and Long Voyages Far From Home, so it seemed like a good fit.

You then get directions towards the temple, along with instructions that robots who are particularly devout to Fricassa tend to wear dwarven-style goggles, using them as holy symbols.

Going and checking out a temple where robots worship sounds cool let's go.

Also that festival sounds cool, to bad we missed it.
