"Orrel? As in Orrel Sokolov? ....hm. The world really does have a cruel sense of humor."
The man studies Orrel with some interest. A subtle twinge of what could be pain appears briefly on his face, and then vanishes.

He sweeps a strand of hair from his face.
"These monsters are nothing more than a means to an end. Even with our leader's power over them, they are still wild animals. To claim to work with them is folly, even for us. It would be like attempting to claim power over nature."

The man fixes his gaze upon Orrel once more.
"As for who I am.....since you have told me your name, I will give you the courtesy of introducing myself. I am Justice, one of the Seven Virtues of the Seekers of Calamity."
"The Seekers of Calamity?"
"We are but a small, humble group, seeking to protect the world against the injustices the Order has brought upon it. Until recently, we have operated in the shadows but.....it seems, with no justice forthcoming, we must act."

Arnett did not appreciate being in what was basically a ghost town. He had to do everything in his power to fight his shaky legs... especially once the group was greeted by a rather intimidating man. Just to help his nerves, Arnett clutched his paintbrush. It wasn't much of a security blanket, but it made him feel at least like he was kind of holding a weapon. Kind of.

He almost dropped it when the man dropped his last name.

"O-Orrel? H-How does he-" Arnett whispered to his brother as the man distracted himself, only to see the man's gaze go to Orrel again— it would not have been hard for Arnett to be in his line of sight. Arnett ended his sentence early with a light gasp, almost ducking behind Orrel— though he still stood his ground... at least, that's what he'd like to think. In reality, he just felt like his feet were glued to the floor.

"And how exactly do you know my name? I'm no one important. The only ones with my last name that were important to the world are dead. There's no reason for you to know the name of a random student in the order, so I ask again."

His stance shifted, turning into an offensive one, fans starting to swirl with green and blue magic.

"How do you and your twisted group who work with monsters know who my name?"

"So....you are the son."
Justice looks unsure, for a moment.

His voice falters slightly, before he shakes his head, seemingly steeling his resolve.

He doesn't even flinch at Orrel preparing to attack, the only sign he even noticed being his grip on his sword tightening.
"Do you think the story of Orrel Sokolov was a secret known only to you? The names of those whose blood is on the Order's hands are inscribed on every memorial wall those hypocrites dared to put up and commemorated as if they were not responsible for their deaths! His story was no different from countless others."

Orrel's stance faltered, flinching, for just a second before becoming steady again. So he knew his father's story. His eyes blunted, forbidden tears so long kept at bay tying to resurface again. But not now. Not today.

"So it's my father you care about then. Fair enough. He deserves to be remembered after what he did, I won't argue there. But if you think that working with the types of creatures that killed him and all these others you claim to want to protect, your actions are dipped in the stain of hypocrisy and you can never be free of that taint."

And even if he's right, that the Order failed my father... His actions are not better. I cannot listen to his poisoned words. The Order is good overall. Failings do not mean it must be destroyed. Right?

He tightened his grip, knuckles going white, trying hard to not let his damning thoughts show on his face. This man was aligned with his enemy. Any valid points he had were ruined by that.

At least the villagers seem to have been escorted away. That is a relief for Kruger. The strange Salis in front of them, though, was more reason to be worried.

To be worried... and to be angry about as the conversation between the two feathered fighters went on.

Finally, equating the Order to hyprocrites spurred Kruger to take a step forward.

"That shall be quite enough, He who sullies the word Justice with his own hypocricy."

He draws his Rapier.

"Your accusations are grave and deep. Yet instead of seeking to settle it in court with the evidence you surely must have gathered to come to such a conclusion, you instead decided to skip a court's rulings to weaponize Fiends for a hollow victory."
"There is no justice in this. There is no virtue in that. The only truth is that you are indeed seeking calamity. Your own. I shall acknowledge you only by the most fitting of names for you: Fiendheart!"

Rika put a hand on Orrel's shoulder and give it a gentle squeeze.

"Don't get yourself worked up over this piece of trash. I don't care what he says his reasons are, all I need to know is that he's leading these fiends against innocent people. I ain't having that."

"A court? You think the sins of the Order can be washed away by a mere court?! You must be more naive than I thought. Call me whatever name you deem fit. The Order must answer for those who fell at Volskaya....and elsewhere."

Katarina, who had been standing nearby with the other students accompanying Class 3-F, noticeably stiffens at the mention of Volskaya.

"...."
"Fiends, Alphinite, weapons....all are tools to an end, nothing more. Justice must be brought upon the sinners through whatever means necessary."

"Well, 'Justice', if that is the name you wish to go by, I can certainly respect someone driven by a sense of justice. But will be put to a stop right here" Reeve commented, dramatically flipping her hair as she stepped forward as well, her figure far less imposing than the older Sokolov that was next to her, bringing out one of her tomes at the same time,

"Truthfully the fact that you claim that name as your own pains me, especially for one who hails from a group called the 'Seekers of Calamity', and those who believe that working with the black hearts of Fiends would amount to any amount of justice no less. Truly, if you were of good heart, you would've come up with a better name, correct?"

"Well, regardless, you won't find victory here. That result already lies with me. But, as you have given your name to us, I shall do so in kind, so that you may remember the name of the great mage who will send you to the great beyond."

"Behold! For you stand- Er, fly, before the Prodigy Mage of the Polyions, the Grand Angel of Flame, Reeve von Anextra Polyion the Third!"

Mus'ad wrings his hands around his staff, finally figuring out what he wants to say.
"Are you even listening to yourself!? Of course you aren't or you'd realize how ridiculous you are. What sin have these villagers committed then if you're attacking them?"

"... She... is Reeve. She introduced herself... Ahem!"

"I agree with you that 1810 was one of the darkest years for our kind. Not only the Order, but everyone on this world was on the brink of a slow but unavoidable extinction. Volskaya, Saari, and the sheer incompetence of leading forces in Ruthenia are a painful and shameful mark. But the Order has changed. The Knight-Lieutenants from that time have been expelled and the Order investigated thoroughly, paving the way so that the Order may one day rebuild Volskaya back to its former glory and finally atone for the sins of its past through diligent and hard work."

"But what do you know about diligent and hard work? Do you truly think Volskaya can be avenged..."

Kruger sharply and loudly raises his Arte-infused voice.

"... BY INVOKING A SECOND VOLSKAYA ON INNOCENT VILLAGERS?!"

A sinking feeling was starting to hit Orrel. This wasn't right. Everyone was acting like these enemies were here to fight the village, but...

"I don't think they are, Kruger. I should have realized... Dammit... You aren't here for the villagers, are you? You threatened them, knowing that it would bring a response. But you all could have gotten here faster, with humans joining the group, couldn't you? You're here for the response from the Order. To fight those you claim are corrupt. A trap."

"Tell me, do you see any villagers here? Are you, in fact, not the only people here, pawns of the Order? And are you truly foolish enough to think that we came here to massacre the innocent? We gave them a chance to run."
Even then, Justice....doesn't quite sound too sure about that. As if he doesn't quite believe what he's saying.

Then Orrel speaks.
"You're right. We have no business with the good people of Blackby. We're here for-"

Suddenly, the sounds of screaming can be heard, and Justice's face visibly sinks.

Some villagers, who'd been hiding in the houses nearby, had picked a quiet time to leave, and had found themselves barred in by Fiends, who, spotting prey, have begun circling around them.

Justice is.....visibly furious.
"Damn it all. They told me nobody would-!"

"How about you get out of our way and let us do what we came to do: save innocent people. Either that or you can fight us and prove you're a damn liar."
