Jack bursts out laughing.
"....no. That's....that's ridiculous! Why would they be on top of each other?!"

"I will!"

Arnett was still very cautious considering this was still a stray puppy who probably hadn't had much interaction outside of Maximus— he's careful to approach slowly to give the puppy a chance to sniff him or voice his disapproval before Arnett went in for some gentle pettings.

"Perhaps because they were interested in exploring ways to spend their time together, or perhaps they simply ended up that position in some miraculous spin of fate. I truthfully didn't bother learning the 'why'. Do I look like the type of girl to pry into people's private affairs?"

"Ultimately, the point is that they've been reminded of their responsibilities, and should be more focused. I just wanted to let you know that, and bring up some relevant information should you two decide to help out those lovebirds in the near future."

"It's true, they were playing around on top of each other."
"They were messing about with tape, and tried claiming it was official union business."
"As if I could misinterpret what they were doing."

".....hmph. Well....fine. I'll believe you. But I doubt it'll be the end of this. Here, have some of our spare provisions. They gave me extra anyway and I figured you guys would want something for doing us a favour."

"It's good fish. Expensive. Cost me about five shifts at the Forge. Professor Ramsay breathing down my neck is NOT a pleasant experience."

After everyone had managed to introduce themselves, and there had been some light conversation and joking around, Orrel stretched.

"Alright. Probably best to get you two to the professor, otherwise she'll start worrying I got you lost."

"Why?" Lin's voice rather abruptly appeared from behind the group of Cattleya, Reeve, Jack, and Kaede. She closed the distance before continuing. "I always thought the forge was kinda relaxing."

"Tiaxian Mudfish? That's quite impressive. I also doubt that this will be the end of the two's issues, but hopefully they'll at least put a bit of effort into doing- GAH!" Reeve jumped as soon as Lin spoke up, nearly dropping the fish she held in her hands, scrambling in order to keep it from falling onto the floor. Thankfully, she managed to quickly get her footing, snapping back to a proper standing position and clearing her throat,

"Well Weylan, if I were to give a guess, I'd say that it comes down to a matter of preference. I happen to find my own relaxation in places like the kitchen, rather than in a hot forge."

Lin silently watched Reeve's reaction without betraying any of her own, only responding once the mage had recovered into something resembling composure.
"I think I've burnt everything I've ever tried to cook. Even a sandwich, one time. It's hard to burn a sword."

"Gyahhh!"
In an impressive standing leap, Cattleya shot in the air, landing facing Lin. Wide-eyed, she looked at Lin for a second before nonchalently straightening up.
"D-don't do that!"
"You startled Reeve," she said, completely ignoring her own reaction.

"I was not startled! I just lost my footing is all."

"Still, burning a sandwich? I'm... Somewhat impressed actually, and interested in how you accomplished such a feat."

"But, cooking is its own art, the same way forging is as well, and not everyone is as proficient in one or both."

Cattleya's earlier reaction received a similar blank response to Reeve's. . . yet Lin certainly saw and remembered both.
"I know that you don't put sandwiches in a furnace. I just got distracted while I was putting it together." Her tone held a faint, but definite note of defensiveness. "And don't do what?"
