Magma workshops + unreveal
« on: July 26, 2020, 04:00:35 pm »

Hi. Ive managed to screw the pooch with reveal and unreveal. I wanted to take a peek at my cavern animal men, early in play. Forts now 5yr old, been revealed and unrevealed, carnival, too. Mined into magma layer many times, even channeled out the room for magma workshops. But. You guessed it, my dwarfs have never gotten the popup msg discovering magma. So no magma workshops in my df menu. Is there a way around this, I am burning Fangorn forest to fuel the fires of industry. Thank you.

Ouch. That's tough. The only move I can think of is retiring and unretiring. It would be a headache with a 5yo fort, and there's no guarantee that it would work.

I built an extravagent 'all welcome' tavern max linear dimensions, and 4z high ceiling at the bottom, in an adamantine spire. Its got 30some floor built instruments, some of divine origin.

I really would prefer to not unretire. 30+ QSPs to rebuild. Shiver me britches.

Ive just got a grip on it, it no longer CTD(It was the war elephant wanting a bed to rest on, becareful with dfHack/add-thought on building destroyers).  It has not been burglarized inside a full yr. Stinks, Ive ruined it.

Maybe try sealing off all access to the magma sea, use revflood command, then reopen?

There's probably a way to enable magma forges with a script, otherwise.

Yeah, feature magma to fix this.
It probably wouldn't hurt to run "feature list" followed by several "feature show <number>" commands to ensure that all of your other appropriate map features have been marked as Discovered - one of the other side effects of pre-revealing your map like this is that digging into the Caverns won't allow subterranean plants (trees, shrubs, or grasses) to start growing naturally within your fortress.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
