You slowly gain consciousness. You emerge from the damp, cold capsule you were in, dropping to your arms and knees after a sudden bout of weakness. You expel copious amounts of some kind of clear fluid. You feel like you haven't used your muscles in a very, very long time.

It's hard to see what is around you, but you look around just the same. Around you are fire and shrapnel, blanketing a valley. Bits of metal and exotically-coloured flame still rain from the starry sky above. In front of you - no more than three or four metres away, from the looks of it - is a metal locker, laying on its side.

I don't know! Just something I felt like doing. It's an SG, or suggestion game - for those unfamiliar, that means you suggest actions for our protagonist to make, and then I process them. Hopefully, this one will last past page 2.

You clear your eyes, but it doesn't seem to help much. Your vision seems to be gradually improving on its own, however.

You look at yourself, aided by a reflective piece of shrapnel. You are a woman with light, freckled skin, long strawberry blonde hair, and dull green eyes. Your build is average, neither slim nor muscular. You are currently without clothing. If you close your eyes and try to remember, you can almost hear a voice calling a name, but nothing more. At the very least, you seem to know the basics - how to walk, speak, read (not like you'll be doing much reading with the state of your vision), etc.

The fluid is most definitely not edible, at least when out of the pod - it tastes bitter and makes you nauseous.

Crawling to the locker - right now you seem to be unable to stand - you find the door open as if jarred by some great impact. Inside there is a simple ceramic knife in a sheath; a watch of some kind, with a blank screen; a simple t-shirt, shorts, and pair of undergarments, made out of some kind of synthetic fabric that feels silky to the touch; three cylindrical objects which you believe to be batteries of some description; two large brown objects, about the same size and shape as a brick, individually vacuum-packed and with a label you cannot currently read; a simple plastic canteen; and finally a long, dark green object you struggle to identify before you remember its name: a rifle.

I think we should wait for our vision to improve so we can read the labels on the vacuum seals, we don’t know that they contain food

You keep blinking, trying to get back your vision until the words finally become legible. The packages say 'D-type Ration Bar'.

The package resists your attempts to open it. Eventually, you become impatient and tear the package open with the survival knife. The bar smells like bitter chocolate. The bar is too tough to bite into, so you shave off some of the bar using the knife and try to eat. You manage to down a portion of the ration bar - enough so that you don't feel quite as hungry. You try to drink, but the canteen is empty.

After that, you manage to put on the clothing and equipment.

You seem to be in a valley. It is dark, and the only real light is from the fires everywhere. On the edges of the valley on all sides are trees - or, at least, dark shapes that resemble trees.

Wander down the valley awhile. Keep our rifle out-- pointed towards the ground, for now.
