I think there’s some disconnect here.  The person who thinks about the “thing” is called the “thinker”.  The “thing” is what the thinker is thinking about.  In the above quote, the first sentence states that the “thing” is everyone in the thread.  This is clearly a group of people.  People who are both human and animal (as well as mammal).  In the second sentence, you say that this doesn’t include you because you’ve already been the “thing”.  This doesn’t make sense for the reasons I’ve laid out above.  Is the “thing” you are thinking of “everybody in this thread” (possibly excluding you)?  Or is it the “thing”?  If the second, then it would seem that the following is incorrect:

Is it, or was it, living, in the context that it exist? (fictional characters answer yes)

Yes.

Let me start with an ancillary. I have already been the thing and the thinker (using your definitions), in fact, at the same time: one of my previous 'things' was myself. This was guessed remarkably quickly! So this time, the thing is "everyone in the thread BUT me"; the set complement, effectively, of that time.

A set of humans is not itself a human. A set of animals is not itself an animal. A set of mammals is not itself a mammal. I admit it's possible to parse, to some extent, whether a set of living things is alive, but I think it's normal to say a set of things at least one of which is still living can be said to be, collectively, living.
