Is it a tuba?

Edit:  just reread the quote from Coalboat's post.
Wikipedia says the tuba was developed in 1835

Is it a trumpet?

Instrument with a bit of cloth...

I guess trumpet could be - like a tabard hanging from it.

Is it a brass instrument if not a trumpet?

Fascinatingly, "trumpet" is from the source of "drum" and not Latin, so the Romans could not possibly have had anything by the same name.

Perhaps not by the same name - but it would have been present. Which is more in spirit of the answer, rather than the letter of it.

He clearly specified (a different object with) the same name, though. Having something similar with a different name is essentially the exact opposite of that.

Is it a string instrument?
No.

Wind instrument?
No.

Percussion instrument?
No.

????
There are other categories. Delphonso mentioned brass, which are sometimes considered wind, but wind usually just means woodwinds (reed instruments) in my experience. Juries are also divided as to whether the piano family count as percussion instruments, or wtf an organ even is!

Wikipedia says the tuba was developed in 1835

<snip>

Quote
solid in room temperature
fits in a 5 ft cube
composed of more than one element, containing metal, also a bit of cloth, while the cloth is not essential, not containing glass
something with the same name existed in Roman times, but was quite different
suffers a bit of damage when being dropped from 3m/10ft height
is used for a group/someone else
NOT for transportation/medical/edible/magnetic/household appliance/container/seating/protective/door/decorative/electronic/sport/weapon/furniture/communication
a discrete item
clunky to move, but not larger than human
no sharp edge or point
no used to alter other things
has moving parts
denser than water if compressed

Mysterious!

my question: Is it possible to carefully drop it into water and let it float freely?
