My current human fortress came from an interesting kingdom.

The Kingdom of Smokes.

"You want it?"

Well, I'm working on finishing my turn of the Tundra-Clan. So far, I've gotten two artifacts made. Gloomypoems the Failed Growth. Cheerful. Also, Drivespray the Mechanical Sewer, a copper throne. The creator was possessed, obviously by a soap maker.

My dwarves are citizens of The Comedic Oil. Their group is called The Lost Fortress.

In my military, I have squads called The Armored Pearls, The Bronze Syrups and The Papers of Striking.

My dwarves hail from the Civilization of the Silly Roofs.  I honestly didn't know dwarves had roofs.

I keep a text file, into which I dump all the cool/funny names I encounter, occasionally with some context info to explain why it's funny. The list isn't very long yet, though, because It's only recently that I feel I'm starting to get the hang of Fortress Mode. I used to play Adventure mode a lot because I would get overwhelmed by the Fortress Mode options. Anyway, enough blabbering.
-----
Cool/believable names:

"The Ashen Jungles"

"The Field of Pines"

"Lightningclaps" - the name of a giant

Teshil "Thunderblood" - an adventurer

Uno "Bloodivy" - cyclops

"The Long Molten Memory-Desert of Stars" - certainly over the top, but I like the sound of it.

Jubulesno Bekat "The Sable Forest of Fells" - I imagine a great black forest of stumps and rotting tree limbs that never seem to completely waste away. A haunted place inhabited by the embittered spirits that once inhabited the trees...
-----
Funny Names:

Uromxugot Asri "The Purple Block of Blazes" - an artwork featuring four demons, carved in willow

Romorope "The common Pattern" - "It is a finely designed image of waves in Alder."

Well, I finally abandoned my fortress.  Ten years, ten dwarves.  I turned off artifacts and churned out legendary weapon and armorsmiths the hard way - a lot of re-melting.  Found the adamantine, blocked the demons off with doors, churned out one or more masterpiece of each armor, each clothing and each weapon.

Did you know that adamantine clothing is made on a forge by an armorer?  I didn't.  Boy was my legendary clothier annoyed.

Anyway, I returned with an adventurer, looted the adamantine equipment.  His only training beyond his starting stats came from pebbling a cougar to death on the way over, and sneaking around the fort.

On my way back out of the store-room hall, I'm zipping along when I get the "You have been noticed!"  By the tentacle demon.  Standing next to me.

I figured I have one shot.  So I select a masterwork spear and throw it.  Through the demon's brain.  Let's just say Mr. Citygrowths is feeling his oats now.

Oh, and funny names?  The location was "Tormentmurk the Past of Drinking"  I couldn't top that if I tried.
