Tame Cave Crocodiles seem to be afraid of water?
« on: June 13, 2020, 02:19:07 pm »

My hopes of a death drop into a croc pit have been thwarted because tamed cave crocs seem to not want to be pastured in an area with water.

I flooded the bottom of the pit with about 60 cave crocodiles to a depth of 3 and 4s. However, as soon as they can they will all flee the area and even Dwarfs that can swim will not attempt to take them back even though I believe depths of 3 and 4 are walkable. Aside from locking them in (would still like to be able to slaughter and collect eggs) it doesn't seem possible.

So why are cave crocs who are [SWIMS_INNATE] and [AMPHIBIOUS] afraid of water?

For dwarves, 3 is walkable, 4 is not. And the code that controls tamed creatures was probably not written with amphibious creatures in mind.

Your dream of a croc pit drop can live on, just without the water!
That, and enjoy batches off egg(75) to make everlasting prepared food stacks with. And dito numbers of hatchlings, and gizzard stones!
Crocs are amazing.

Maybe tweak one, give it swim 1.

I gave my tame GCS bite 1, and he poisons stuff repeatedly now.  But he still does not shoot any webs, like wild GCS.

I'd give tame croc ambush 1, too. Seems logical.

Yeah, I'll drain it out and still keep the death pit. Just wanted to see the bloody water and watch invaders flounder and exhaust themselves as they get torn to shreds while my marksdwarves giggle and shoot bolts from the nearby fortifications. :)

You could still get that effect with shallower water.
