...y'know what?

6: Ask about aunt. Help with gardening as we chat.

Prologue - 6

"Here, let me help you," you say, approaching him.

"Ah- It's fine, I don't need help," he laughs and waves you off, but then paused in his work a little, "Although, Ms. Ferguson does have very particular instructions, and I'm getting on in years..."

He points to a cooler, but then immediately changed his mind.
"No, no, not those. How about... we can re-pot this fellow instead?" he placed his shears down and skipped rather too quickly than a man his age ought to be, over to a cracked earthenware pot holding what seems to be an orchid.

"So, what was- is my aunt like?" you ask as you help the gardener move the orchid.

He purses his lips at the question, and lets out a heavy sigh.

"Lots of rumors around your aunt. Mostly nasty ones. New Alderston is...a strange place, and it attracts strange folks, and your aunt was one of them. They'd get half the facts and go wild with'em; Where people couldn't get facts, they made 'em up."

"Like what?"

"Anything and everything you can think of. Old voo-doo magic, dark sorcery, miracle-working. Hell, some folks even called her a vampire, I hear."

He stands, and stretches.

"Don't let them fool you. Your aunt was...is, a good woman. She kept to herself's all."

You two relocate the flower onto a new pot, although it was mostly the gardener doing the lifting. You aren't sure if he even needed your help to begin with.

  • Intuition: Examine the orchid
  • "So... New Alderston, huh. Could you tell me more about this town?"
  • "Could you tell me more about yourself?"
  • All that work has made you a little hungry. "Um, I don't think this place has any food, do you know anywhere I can get some breakfast?"

Examine the orchid, then ask about the town

As mentioned in the previous turn, the most exciting field of battle this year will be in the Arstotzkan capitol, with plenty of close-quarter fighting and siege warfare.  Arstotzka, accordingly, spent their design phase developing a high-altitude tactical bomber.

((So combos are allowed, then?))
Examine orchid, then ask about food, if combo answers aren’t allowed, Examine the orchid

Prologue - 7

You walk over to examine the orchid more closely. One of your former coworkers grew orchids in her spare time. Them being such a diverse family of flowers with more and more variations being cultivated, it would be impossible and possibly meaningless to identify this one. Did your aunt grow orchids in her free time?

[INTUITION CHECK SUCCESS]

As you muse about this, it starts to dawn on you that you have no idea what the flower looks like, despite the fact that you're staring right at it. You try to concentrate, but you feel a migraine building up...

"Careful, there," the gardener walks over to you, with a strained smile. He doesn't explain what you need to be careful of, but he has somehow placed himself between you and the flower.

"Well, it has been nice chatting with you, Campbell, but I do have more work to do with Ms. Ferguson's plants, and I need to finish them before I go back to the missus for lunch."

You both hear the entrance door creak loudly in the distance.

"Ah, I believe that's the maid. Young Maribeth. She must be around your age, I'm sure she'll want to talk to you," he grins.

"She ought to be able to help you get acquainted with this town more than I do."

  • He's not getting rid of you that easily. What's up with that orchid?
  • Time to go meet the maid, and hope she brought some food.

Well, that's not disconcerting.

3: Consider our unusual perception of the flower. Is it a perception / sensation which we are familiar with? Otherwise, does it have any obvious explanation? If the answer to both of these questions is "no", then perhaps it is something we should be taking more seriously.

I feel we can do both of these.
