Setting modded ranged weapon melee skill and values

Hi guys,

I'm working on some simple mods for my first and am trying to implement a sling & slingshots to make a ranged blunt weapon for dealing with zombies. I *think* I have the ranged values where I want them so the slings will be good against unarmoured targets but struggle otherwise but I need some advice for setting up the melee stats.

What happens if I dont provide a melee skill to be used? Will the sling be used as a miscellaneous item? Will the dwarf be more likely to draw a side arm? Will the weapon be invalid and just not work at all?
If I do set a skill, will a cloth sling be less effective than the dwarf just throwing a punch? Or does any attack with it retain the values of a dwarves punch? If so, will there be grappling weirdness or similar if the wrestling skill is used?
