-snip-

That one seems more interesting than just duct taping a bus to the bottom of one of the helis, and it's probably the first serious suggestion.

I mean the gladiator isn't a terrible idea, id be hesitant to go too heavily into robotics as who knows what sort of electronic warfare capability the aliens would have but if we want a weapons platform it doesn't have to be unmanned we'd sacrifice air mobility at least while we only have black hawks for something like a M113, Humvee, or Bradley but they are established practical and battle tested. We would first need a large helicopter or plane to transport them. So as a more serious suggestion our organization should reach out to the Russian or soviet government whoever is in power now and purchase either a MI-26 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mil_Mi-26) or a MI-6 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mil_Mi-6) there certainly not a direct combat unit but the increase in logistical capacity provided by either of these air frames is miles beyond the Blackhawks capabilities

IWI Tavor-21
The Tavor is a bullpup assault rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO in use with the IDF. it uses Stanag mags like the m16, though we've nabbed some 30 round Stanag compliant mags for it instead of the crappy 20 round mags. the particular model we've grabbed comes with an integrated m203 and a reflex sight.

here's a picture of what I'm talking about
if we go with more helos I'd like to start off with smaller, cheaper ones just in case, like the AW139. admittedly I'd rather give our troops an actually reliable, effective gun rather than some Mattel made m16s.

Since no one bothered making a votebox, I might as well make one so you guys can have easy access to votes.

I would love to see Xcom fight aliens with a bus, but I prefer to have a better gun first. (Maybe mount an autocannon on a school bus later?)

Quote from: 'Rottweiler' Miniature Fighting Vehicle
About the size of a small hatchback, the Rottweiler is a small Armoured car that can fit on a blackhawk. Designed for two crew members (a driver and a gunner/commander) the Rottweiler is a 4 by 4 with a powerful diesel engine to give it mobility in even broken or marshy terrain.

It's armoured all over well enough to easily deflect small arms fire, with a turret packing a side-by-side autocannon and 50 cal machine gun.

We should be able to use this vehicle to safely recon crash sites at speed, and then spearhead assaults against survivors.

I feel i must say the bus was somewhat of a joke however i do support the acquisition of larger air-mobile transports I dont know if any of you have had the misfortune of being stuck in a black hawk for any amount of time but there isn't much room in there for the eight passengers and four crewmen adding any vehicles to it well for the Gladiator design you'd probably have to take out a row of four seats against the back wall to squeeze it in, not unreasonable if it proves combat effective. However to transport the Rottweiler it would have to be load carried in cargo netting beneath the Black-hawk assuming the lifting power was there along with the personnel inside and equipment. Id assume so but it does mean that for at least several minutes after the Rottweiler is freed from the Black-Hawk it would be un crewed and two of the passenger seats in the black hawk would have to be dedicated to the vehicle operators.

Again not a big deal, but why settle for a Black Hawk we should at least pursue a Chinook type platform though i do prefer the MI-26 because why land a squad and light support assets when you can land damn near a company of infantry or a MBT tank. Dont need as good of infantry equipment if we just have such a numerical advantage in combat

The voting was quite unanimous, with 4 out of 7 votes being for the Tavor-21. To further rip off Project PROMETHEUS, a PvE arms race that inspired this game (if it isn't obvious), I might as well make designs have 3 separately rolled stats; which will be Effectiveness, Cost, and Complications in that order. I'm making up mechanics as needed, I don't have to explain shit. Another mechanic I'm throwing in is Supply - Each turn, the Task Force will get an additional 50 credits to spend on engineering, starting at 100, but selling stuff and doing well on missions can give us extra credits.

IWI Tavor-21
"The Tavor is a bullpup assault rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO in use with the IDF. it uses Stanag mags like the m16, though we've nabbed some 30 round Stanag compliant mags for it instead of the crappy 20 round mags. the particular model we've grabbed comes with an integrated m203 and a reflex sight."

Effectiveness: 3 - Below Average
Cost: 1 - Cheap (10 cr)
Complications: 1 - None

After filling out paperwork regarding weapon purchase contracts, we've been able to procure some Tavor-21 rifles. They're fully automatic, and come with built in grenade launchers and reflex sights. They're not as compact as our M16s, primarily due to the grenade launchers, but they should be more reliable and viable for combat against an unknown, and more advanced threat. We can purchase them for 10 credits per gun.

It is now the first Engineering phase (read: credit sink). Engineer/purchase stuff in preparation for assaults on the grounded UFOs.

Balance: 100 credits

What if we were to purchase various liquids, to launch at the,, to determine what substances are poisonous/harmful to them?

Two questions are we going to pay for infantry groups along with there equipment and do we have any limit on hangar space?

That would probably be unwise unless we figure out what chemicals make the ayys drop dead.

Soldiers are free, non-infinite equipment isn't. Regarding hangars, we have 24 aircraft slots at the base. 8 of them are currently used right now (6 interceptors + 2 dropships).
