I bought some pigs and put them in their own room. Every time I check on them, the room contains vermin that don't appear elsewhere in my fortress. Currently I'm looking at two ticks, a thrip, and a beetle. There's no food in the room and no other animals, just the pigs.

It makes real-world sense that pigs would be filthy and covered in parasites. But I don't see anything in the raws to explain it.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Edit: On closer inspection, my chicken room is also crawling with parasites. But they're different than the pig parasites. They currently have ticks, lice, slugs, worms, and snails.

That's from the ROOT_AROUND tag in their raws: they periodically 'disturb' the ground looking for food and causing vermin to scuttle in fear. It's just a hazard with raising certain animals.

The chickens, I believe, should eat the vermin they dig up. I'm not sure if pigs do.
