Problem with strange mood.

One of the young ones has got a secretive mood and is currently occupying a craftdwarf's workshop.
He sketches pictures of...
skeletons
a forest
glass and burning wood
stacked cloth
rough gems and glass
stacked cloth
stacked cloth
glass and burning wood

For now he's claimed a stack of bones, logs, and clear glass.
To buy some time I've forbidden the clear glass and he's claimed some more as replacement.
What he wants now is probably cloth and I've got plenty of yarn, plant and silk cloth, but he isn't claiming any of those.
As far as I can see access to those isn't blocked either by being forbidden, in a different burrow or behind a stockpile link.

Any ideas what else could cause this?

Cloths, which were used in hospital's activities can become not usable, because of invisible wear.
Try making some new ones of each type.
Are all your cloths died? Try plain cloths instead.
So long items are not forbidden the Dwarf should go and pick them up.

If you're using dfhack then you can type "showmood" in the console to see exactly what they want.

I don't know if that's a thing, but if you've produced candy cloth it might be that. I'd use kaijyuu's advice, though.

Do you have any of that?
One nice thing about strange moods is that they try not to ask for things you can't possibly make - only once you successfully produce a piece of raw crystal glass will strange moods start asking for it (though they will continue to do so, even if you've used all of it up). The same applies to "favorite" types of metal bars (e.g. a dwarf that likes nickel silver won't demand it if you've never made any).

Thanks for the replies.

After using the showmood command it became apparent he wants any yarn cloth.
Which is weird, since some cloth which should count as yarn cloth is at a workshop just waiting.
A MDF material called rugged hair cloth... bought with gold at the market.
Otherwise I've got everything, including crystal glass.

Next I'd try looking up this rugged hair cloth in the raws to make sure it has all necessary tokens.
What tokens would it need to be recognized properly?

In the vanilla game, only sheep, llama, and alpaca wool (and troll fur, but good luck getting that) count as "yarn" for the purposes of strange moods (and all other cloth-based crafting) - unless you're using modded raws, your "rugged hair" cloth is probably made of a divine material which the game incorrectly added to a neighboring civilization's "tradeable goods" list.

But they will ask for silk cloth before you've produced any silk. So either they're looking at the contents of the recent caravan (in which case next mood could potentially ask for anything). Or they're spotting silk down in the caverns which means they think your map can produce silk cloth if it really tries. In which case, they could just as easily ask for crystal glass and silver bars (do moods still ask for specific types of metal? Never seen that).

They won't ask for a specific type, like GCS silk. The cloth categories are fair game.

As far as I understand, DF asks for any "basic" categories regardless of whether you have any ability to get it or not (or have ever seen it). Thus, the droves of failed modes asking for shells when there are none to be had (and my earlier cases of demanding metal when my embarks don't have any: I nowadays bring a few bars of mood metal at embark). The different kinds of cloth are different basic types, from that perspective.
When you've produced something it opens up for DF to demand that specifically, as Quietust said (although the "nice" part isn't especially friendly).
There may be an exception for glass as a basic category, as I think it might be demanded only after you've produced glass, but I've definitely never had a demand for crystal glass.

Actually all embarks have shells. Fishing however is not a job, usually ever set up in a fortress. When you get demand for shells. Dig like crazy for cave with water. Usually the bottom 3rd one. Then arm your Dwarves with shields and amass your forces there to open it and kill the Fun! Then fish cleaners should be able to get you those shells in promptly order.

No. All caverns do not have cavern lakes, and all cavern lakes (or surface ponds) do not have pond turtles. It's not uncommon for there to be no "fish" at all on a map (not to mention that you can set your world gen parameters to reduce the chances for the caverns to have any water at all).

Not really ideal but I've used dfhack to spawn in a single sheep yarn cloth.
Otherwise I've no access to any other source.
He seems to be fine now, since he's started working.
