B It's always good to have a proper defense force, though I'm hoping for a peaceful reign for Eyrdri. It'd be nice to experience a less aggressive, when compared to past dynasties we've played, playstyle, at least for a ruler or two.

1341 AD, Summer

There's a new fashion amongst your noblemen - elven alchemists.

These so-called 'alchemists' are using various sorts of salts, liquids and colored marbles to create marvelous potions. They have yet to create Fireblood, although many of them are capable of 'enriching the primes', which appears to do something with turning base metals into precious ones.

Your own alchemists scoff at them, believing that they are charlatans; the elves taking cash for their tricks and toys while they toil day and night alloying metals and mixing up Fireblood for you.

A) A harmless fun, this elven alchemy!
B) Hey, and why exactly I wasn't visited by an elf yet? I demand a 30-day trial at least!
C) Elven charlatanery has no place in the world of science! Outlaw the practice!

You head to the royal library, and delve into the books concering alchemy, history and elves.

The alchemy used by elves is slightly unlike the chemistry of Fireblood. They combine the Four Elements into Salts, and then Salts are used along with Quicksilver to create metals out of Iron and Lead.

The processes involve rituals and calling forth of natural spirits to transmute the metals. You're not sure if this is all true or not, but the Elves have always been noted to have abundance of copper, tin, silver and gold, despite not doing much of mining or metallurgy themselves.

There's something you do not understand - if your engineers are so skilled, why haven't they discovered the process yet?

That's because...

A) This is all charlatanery, that ought to be punished.
B) This is elven secret that I'm about to find out from them.
C) This is all folk ramblings, not something to be taken seriously.
