Basically, don't let your strange moods fail. And build a wall around a dwarf if it looks like they're going to fail.

It's one of the few set-piece "game" parts of the game remaining from many years ago. Most have been replaced by more natural simulation. Just a "drop everything, desk with this now or suffer" feature.
Thanks
A strange mood when gets its not pleasant for other dorfs anymore (useless for the dorf community?)? : "going beserk" is definitely case for a wall around than.

Elaborate this some more..for the curosity

Armies used to show up at fortress without any relation to world map. Now they need to be able to path to your fortress and it takes time. The attacking civ also needs the numbers to be able to attack now.

Werecreatures are also more linked to the world now. In older versions you was almost certain to be attacked in the first few years by one.

Before poetry, dance and music dwarves had parties. A much cruder version that annoyingly occupied many dwarves for several days.

There must be many more examples of simulations that started out without much detail and got fleshed out later.

@janamdo. It seems to me, you are not using "space" for pausing game, often enough. If you just let the time run, then things will happen out of your control.

Temporary shelter!
A thought strikes me, that you are not considering an imminent shelter upon embark start. A temporary place for stockpile (accepting all with exception of wood, stone, refuse and dead bodies), place for your first underground farming plots and a place, just some large room, for various workshops. This is a place, which you should be able to wall off on a moment notice in case of danger.

It strikes me, you maybe are going into lots of construction for your main base. Something, which can generate lots of value, lots of digging, which accelerates the first fey mood happening.

I usually just dig 1x1 stairs down and then two 1x1 up/down. Right there on side of the embark's wagon. It is important on temporary shelter not to do it right in the first underground layer. Cutting growing trees on top of such a cavity, will create holes leading inside on surface. Then I do 4 11x11 underground rooms. 1 for farms (and seed stockpile refusing barrels). 1 for storage. 2 rooms for workshops and also for eating (I mark 1 chair for manager and 1 chair for bookkeeper there too) area and sleeping area. Those areas can cover each other and you still can put in them workshops. This is like a basic operation place. Then I go for planning my new fortress, which can take few years to be constructed, when food and drinks are provided and I have various workshops for fey mood and other components I need for my temporary base and the newly constructed. I usually move in into my surface main bunker, as soon as, I have first floor above ground walled off, roofed off and main entrance secured.

Yes, a small minimal start place for providing food and shelter to build the main fortress.. i will try this!
The last fortress went very well, but was i not enough aware of the announcement of coming enemies.. i was too late with the drawbridge pulling up.

Doing too much activities can trigger strange moods  and i ignore them for now not knowing how to exact handle them : only when a dorf is mad then isolate it

There should be built in the fortress a construction what trapped the creatures.

Yes, the dungeon or like other call it a hall of traps. It is an underground space, which connects surface to your fortress's inside. I usually make it priority to build it, after my first floor above ground is build and I moved there from my temporary shelter. Invasions tend to come soon and often sometimes. I make it a long and broad hallway at first in this dungeon. This way entire invasion force goes inside and I can close drawbridge behind them, so none can escape their doom :D . The second part of dungeon is a serpentine narrow corridor with around 300 traps. I make it so, the serpentine corridor can be accessed quickly from one side through about 14 bridges. I always go with cages for clean catch. It saves Dwarves from emotional hit from cleaning sentient beings' left overs. Next on schedule is always mass pit (like the one on wiki), so I can empty the cages after collecting from them all the goblinite.

I wasn't much bothered with fey moods at start too tbh. However you could track, which workshop such Dwarf claims and if he is going around fetching materials, or just idles in his claimed workshop. Wikipedia could help to decipher, which material he still needs, if he idles.

Thanks
I must now focus on this inner fortress defence for a new fortress!
Now it is not closing the drawbridge when the enemy is coming, but it is now keep the drawbridge open:  please welcome  enemy :D
But i think this inner fortdefence is only to be used in a emergency case ( the drawbridge could not be closed in time)
Or to get goblinite from the enemy, but goblins are different from a humenoid feathered creature as earlier encountered.

Its a good point from you: build as much as possible i a short possible time
Cages are not possible to use with a feathered humanoid creature (undead ?, can't remember anymore )
Blunt weapons or lowering a bridge on the creature ?
