This issue pops up all the time : thirst
It seems almost impossible to solve this: why the dorfs are thirsty
There is a whole list to check what causes thirst?

So much to deal with and it demands strong actions to do the right thing; ideal for a computer to do this tasks, but i am not a computer
If you have a job to "brew some drinks when less than 100 drinks", and you have another job to "craft some mugs when less than 10 mugs", then your thirsty dwarfs will have mugs and drinks.

Blue arrows indicate dwarfs are thirsty, but if those blue-arrow dwarfs are sitting on booze barrels, you do not need to do anything.

Sometimes dwarfs die from thirst because they were insane, lost both hands, or because they accidentally were locked in a room. This is.... unfortunate.

The amount of drinks stored in a barrel is that the right figure , well i am unsure about this  ?
Ok, 10 drinks from a barrel is on the safe side
One brew job(for one plant) is standing for 5 drinks ?

1 plant/fruit gives 5 units of brew in barrel. So if you have a bunch of 8 plants, then there is 40 brews in in barrel. Purchased barrels have 25 units.
However 1 Dwarf needs 1 barrel, even if he drains it of only 1 unit of brew.

Start your drinks stockpile small 11x11. Then with growing fortress go to 22x11 or even larger, depending if you have many kinds of alcohol and auto-brewing or not. Auto-brewing takes less stockpile space, while still providing variety of drinks. My auto is currently set for "brew 10 barrels when less then 60 units left" and it seems to be sufficient.

Thanks
The tricky part is that one barrel per drinking dorf is assigned and with 25 drinks in a barrel ( although i do have say 50 drinks in stock: it are two barrels and drinking for 2 dorfs
Example for 20 dorfs i do need 20 barrels x 25 drinks

As i understand the dorfs are not drinking at need from whatever barrel is filled with drinks ?
Make this sense ? ..
I am now trying using mugs ( the needed stone must be mined)  , but that gives a better mood for the dorf ( quality mug more..), but for the drinking itself it doesn't matter.

You need as many barrels as there are going to be drinking dorfs at the same time, and on average barrels are half full.

Dorfs select a particular barrel to drink from, and in a depart from how it usually doesn't work, dorfs actually queue up to drink, rather than give up on the job. Dorfs select the "closest" barrel containing a favorite drink, or the "closest" containing a "don't care" drink if the favorite isn't available. The "closest" logic isn't understood in exact detail, but it basically boils down to geometric distance, with no consideration for the actual path. Also there's a desire to grab a mug, and there's a "closest" decision involved there as well, but I don't know which order the items are calculated in, nor whether both starting points are the current position of the dorf, or if the barrel is selected first and then the mug is determined based on the distance to the barrel.

Of course it has to do with the distance to a barrel then: when a dorf is thirsty he looks at he closest barrel for a drink
There are a lot of auto labors possible : could be handy to use them ?
Df hack got some..

Its quite a challence to feed the dorfs  :)
But what spoils now the playing  of DF is crashing when the size of the screen is changing : gone is DF
The only solution for this is save more , but that is not what i like
Crashing is all the time with screen size chance , so i am getting a little bit tired of to play on this way.

It boils now around to get the dorfs feeded ..and it looks like that it will be not a easy task.
It seems that i do have now a good organized fortress.

trying systematic getting the dorfs their drinks..
They can drink from barrels, mug, cup

Some  (chalk)mugs are placed on foodpile ?..not on finished goods pile ? ( i did not have at the construction of the mugs a finished good pile)
Hey, but now all mugs are brought from F pile to the FG pile, that's good.

How many mugs can be stored in a workshop … if there are too many made they will be dropped on a foodpile then?

Should the dorfs take this mug from a foodpile for drinking or do they need a coffer filled with mugs in a inn or diningroom?
Close to the diningroom and the inn is the pile for drinks to find.

data/init/init.txt
[WINDOWEDX:160]
[WINDOWEDY:80]

I do not need to resize my window, unless stretching it to ful-screen for some reason. Try your own size instead of 160:80 I used. Default is clearly too small.

PS.
I use mugs and cups both. Just not metal ones. Too heavy those.

I didn't see any Dwarf getting boost mood from using cups/mugs, just debuff fro not using those goes away.

I store mugs and cups together with drinks and barrels on the very same stockpile, but then I gather both barrels and mugs from it and auto-quantum stockpile it on side of this drink stockpile.

I am using a widesceen : for Wiki and DF at the same time
There is a output drink pile (wine, beer rum etc) fed by a workshop.: if it 10 x20 = 200 barrels, then a auto-quantum stockpile should be not neccessary.

Perhaps if i can make the output drink pile into a custom pile then i can mix barrels with mug and cup ( not stored in barrels) ?
But i like also the idea of coffers or chest filled with mugs and cups placed in a (drinking) room , then there is no need for a custom pile

Don't store mugs in stockpiles. Just let the dorfs drop them after drinking, to be picked up by the next dorfs, rather than generating needless hauling jobs back to stockpiles only to be hauled back to the drinks stockpile for drinking.
Mugs in a coffer in the taverns are reserved for the tavern keepers only: they are the only ones that may use them for serving drinks (performers allocated to the tavern are just tavern keepers with another title).

When there is too much goods in a workshop the working speed drops due to clutter.

Ok, then the mugs, cups are hauled from a workshop and the use of a coffer is then limited to a tavern.

I am using LNP and fill in the resolution for the widesreen 2560x1080 for windowed and full screen
Df opens now with windowed fullscreen..so let's look how it works

Mugs are "stored" in the drinks stockpile: they're "dropped" in the same way old clothing isn't stored where the dorf happened to stand when new ones became available. The only things dorfs occasionally return to their place after use is books.

Don't get it exactly what you mean here with the clothes in comparison with the drinks stockpile.
Mugs are made in a craftdwarf workshop, so with a finished goods stockpile as aspected to store the output of the workshop
Now it seems that mugs are stored in a food stockpile out of the blue.?
Make sense, because the dorf wants to drink and needs a mug and a drink from a barrel at the same time.

I can cancel( erase ) the already finished good pile filled with mugs..
