Last Few Things
« on: July 02, 2002, 09:32:00 am »

I'm working on the reptiles now.  Of course, now that I'm actually using my new motif editor for something, the little bugs start creeping through.  Nothing major yet...  when I tried to give the reptiles the possibility of having forked tongues, that was fine, but when I tried to tell it to make the tongue fork near the tip of the tongue, it made the tongue narrower instead.  Things like that...  I'm sure that won't be the last one of these to crop up...

On the upside, there aren't any major challenges left.  I just need to find a little time (2-3 days?  a little more?), then I'll release.

HA!I have returned just in time it seems.
Sorry I haven't been around in a while, but I got caught up in several email and message board debates(of which I am still embroiled in) and this recent flag pledge fiasco(the ruling was fine but the reaction from the fundies...yikes!) threatened to drive me to the brink of sanity. So I decided to come back to Armok and see how things were coming along.

I expect X will be along shortly eh?

Hmmm...  maybe X is still dead.  Being at the university seems to be occupying all of his time, although not necessarily with anything academic.

Eh.  Not just the fundies, but many mildly religious people feel they need to defend the pledge in its post-1954 form.  I think the reaction demonstrates that we should keep the words in -- America is a nation under the thumb of God, whether we like it or not.  If the Senate votes 99-0 to "support the Pledge" just to keep their constituents from being pissed at them, I mean, taking the words out would be naive and inaccurate.

On the bright side, I have shaved reptiles.  I'm going to do insects and people now or tomorrow.  Then some fussing around with models...  that should be it.

Insects are kinda done.  They are just don't have a lot of detail yet.

Humans are done, except that women are larger than men and each human only has 2 toes per foot.  After I remedy that, I'll just need to do a bit with models.

Ummm. About the humans, how detailed do you make them? My mom wouldn´t be pleased if I played something rated "Lots of naked people"!!! Do not add boobs and dicks until you´ve added clothes, okay?

By the way, keep up the good work and take all the time u want!

Hmmm...  don't worry about that.  I'm more concerned that they look a lot like ET right now.  The necks definitely need to be shorter.

Mostly I've just been trying to get indices straight today.  The problem is this:  say you want to make a monster with steel claws.  You need to tell the creature editor that you'd like to import a material file, and you give it the file name.  Then you can make the claws how you want.

However, when you set up your universe definitions, and tell the game that you want to use your new creature, the game also has to know to load up the material file and incorporate it into the universe.  Furthermore, the file might already have been incorporated earlier, and in any case the number on the creature's claws telling them that they are steel needs to be recalibrated in case the universe is already using other material files.

Just a lot of annoyances like this...  I'm trying to finish that up today.  Tomorrow or the next day I'll draw up the models and try to work them in.  It shouldn't take very long, as long as I don't aim too high for this version.  Then...  that's about it.

Here are some ET pre-humans.  I turned on their individual variations so that different skins colors come out.  The squares on the chests and backs of the males are the result of the hair being too thick.

I haven't even done the models yet, so these will be vastly improved upon.  At least they have no tails.

Hey X!Nice to hear from you.I have been pretty good BTW and thanks for asking.I have been spending entirely too much time arguing politics and that other stuff which won't be brought up so as not to spoil this perfectly good Slaves to Armok board.
Football season is about to start(the American misnamed sport I mean) and I am in several fantasy leagues so my presence will likely become scarce on all message boards for a while(even belief.net).
You still slugging it out at the uny or did you give up on that whole higher education thing and decide to become a special effects supervisor on some BBC sci-fi show or something?

The kobolds should be reptilic small stupid yet good mages. Not some kind of lowlife dogmeans that you skin and throw in front of a fire!!! That is what I am going to do with all dogbeings, dogs, wolves, dogmen and werewolves!!! So make them reptilic so that I don´t have to chase so small and pesky creatures.

Given that the kobold is by far the most important creature in any work of fantasy, even those that don't have them, I'm sure there are plenty of differing ideas of what they should look like.

Mine won't be little dog men or little lizard men.  I don't see them having Lassie faces or long scaly tails.  Making all of them good mages would be lame, although having some kind of tribal shaman with fairly minimal powers would be fine.

Reptile or whatever, kobolds will be

1) small
2) pesky
3) something you might have to chase.

But you can make kobolds how you like with the editors.  You can make them enormous with horns and giant sphinctered apertures in the center of their slimy chests.  And the sphinter hole could be their brain.

For a bit of a side note..
what IS a Kobold?

Well it turns out that long long ago.. there were these Germanic tribes who ran around and did thier stuff... and this is where the kobold came from.....
They would take a baby.. new born.. and "hide" it in a dark room...
it would always stay in the dark room and the boy would be fed better than all the other children of the tribe..
but it would continually live in this darkness..
in any case hwen the boy was about 5-6 years old they would bring him out and sacrafice him by sticking all sorts of blades through him..
and they would worship the "child god"
they would take the child around in a litlte box.. it would shrivel up.. and then it would turn to dust.. but they would still worship it until it was gone..

i guess that this sacrafice protected the other children from being stolen away by the kobolds which were like baby snatchers or something like that...

there is no direct refrence to them being anything but a sorta ... really wrinkly old man sorta lookin guy... and of course they take a child every year...

in any case i always liked the dnd kobolds..
little doggie men who were VERY intelligent. (not magic wise.. but they had some shamans)  in any case.. they just like to keep to themselves... but since they are so small everyone else likes to pick on them..
so they plan thier defenses really well..
they dont like to fight... but will in thier own defense..

thats a kobold to me
