Right, Back to the Capital of Connachta. All Grain and the king retakes it.

Also, to Donnchad, King of the Petty Kingdom of Ui Neill. I would like to propose an alliance once this is over.
Two kingdoms produce more grain than one. Think of it as a marriage agreement.

Game wise I would become a kingdom, then cede other territories to you. I'll stay in Connachta producing Grain for the war effort. A safe area that won't get conquered and be able to support you.

Spend 10 Grain investing in Cornwall.
Spend 5 Grain Formalizing
King Primrose of the Petty Kingdom of Devon's vassalage to me.
Send 1 Grain to my vassal,
King Primrose of the Petty Kingdom of Devon.

As I am now a King of Kings, I will henceforth be known as Emperor Count of the County of Cornwall.

Use all 6 grain to defend Connachta

You made a mistake NG. I never invested, so you only have 5 grain to my new 6.

Well, action already in, so we shall see how it goes. Only playing defense is not going to work though.

Granted, Donnchad can just decide to kill me instead of ally with me. Not like this will leave any defenses left.

i know you will send all grain to attack, I have a better chance of survival if I defend with 6 grain instead of 1 grain

When I was working on the changes to this format, I considered having heirs that players could marry off to create alliances, but it turned out to be too complicated and didn't add much to the game play. If we wanted to develop it in a similar direction that the Seigneurs and Warring States games went with different starting powers, it could be interesting to give players starting choices like:

- Longboats - No cost for attacking via sea.
- Castle Builders - you can spend 20 grain to build a castle, which offers a permanent +10 defence to a county.
- Royal Cavalry - King has a +5 bonus (rather than +2) and may move through two of your own provinces a turn (rather than just 1)

(Not sure how balanced any of the above is, but could add some fun tactical considerations.)

That said, part of the appeal of the game is that it's not too complicated, and I'd be loathe to add in excessive complexity.

Still waiting on Pokeboss. But  also-- Haspen has started a new Europe-wide game of this, with trade routes and new starting choices. Posting as some of you might not have seen the signups yet.

King Shadowclaw of the petty kingdom Aberdeen
King Shadowclaw leads the attack on Argyll. 19+4+2 vs 10+5 = 25 > 15
Argyll is conquered and pillaged for 5.

Queen Tiabeanie of the Petty Kingdom Mide
No outbound actions.

Queen Conan of the Petty Kingdom of Connachta
Queen Conan leads an assault on her capital of Connachta, defended by Queen Tiabeanie. 6+1+2 vs 5+4+2 = 9 < 11
Queen Conan fails to conquer Connachta.

King Primrose of the Petty Kingdom of Devon
An alliance is formalised between Cornwall and Devon.
King Primrose leads the attack against Worcester. 17+9+2 vs 10+3 = 28 > 13
Worcester is conquered and pillaged for 5.

King Randulf Eriksson of the Petty Kingdom of York
King Randulf leads the attack on Derby. 19+2+2 vs 10+2 = 23 > 12
Derby is conquered and pillaged for 5.

Donnchad, King of the Petty Kingdom of Ui Neill
Airgialla is defended but no one comes.
Donnchad leads the attack on Mide. Nobody defends.
Mide is conquered and pillaged for 3.
Queen Conan is defeated and the Petty Kingdom of Connachta disappears as an independent political force.

Count-Emperor of the County of Cornwall
An alliance is formalised between Cornwall and Devon.
The Count-Emperor invests 10 in Cornwall.
1 grain is shipped to Devon.

As Queen Conan fails in taking her homeland, she retreats back to Mide, just in time to see a vast army flying the banner of King Donnchad march into the province. Without land, without an army, she disappears from the view of history. Meanwhile, the Cornish-Devonish alliance is formalised and the West Country juggernaut powers on towards the Midlands. A face off with the Danish raiders seems inevitable.
