So there's this forbidden beast parchment scroll called "Humans the Easy Way" that was dropped by some visitor (I think it may have been my civ's liaison) that was killed by a besieging army and no one will pick it up. I have a library and a someone assigned the scholar occupation. I also have stockpiles with storage of tools and codices enabled. And it's just sits there; has been sitting there for many in-game years now. It's not forbidden. I've even forbid/claimed it multiple times and nothing. I saw on some post somewhere that this is some kinda bug with dropped items and that you can fix it with DFhack, but I don't really know much about DFhack and haven't been able to find how to do this. Can anyone help me?

I don't know how to do it with DFHack, but I solved a similar issue by marking a bunch of stuff for dumping then unforbidding it once it got dumped. My guess was that the hauling job was super low priority for some reason and the higher priority dumping job moving it closer to all my dwarves caused the new hauling job to have higher priority.

That fort did have several tens of thousands of single coins unstacked keeping my haulers busy though. (If I ever try that again, I am going to first set up a minecart route from the trade depot to the magma smelters.)

For some reason a lot of "book" dropped when visitors die are marked with the "trader" flag, which blocks them from being used, or even moved out of the way.

This script is essentially a copy of parts of a script I use to deal with "stuff" regularly. It does report a few things on top of the claiming, which is the part you actually wanted.
